What DTG say and do are two different things, you should know that by now. Remember them saying they were going quiet for a few months to fix up TSW2 and we got TSW3? And still with the fixes outstanding, how lucky we are eh? Let me put it this way, lets say SimRail proves hugely popular and they start introducing DLC from other parts of the world which is again popular and cheaper than TSW. Customers from TSW will switch then what do you think DTG will do? If they do not respond they will be idiots. I'm not bothered about MP but the editor would be a game changer, in fact if it proves successful and people can share creations then I can see people buying it on mass. We will have to see. But I really hope it is successful as then we might see DTG actually fix what they promised to. Will the Rail Driver work with SimRail? DTG have made loads of promises with the RD in TSW but it still isn't working properly.
The editor is nice and all but if the third party scene on SimRail ends up anything like the mess it is with TS Classic then I won't be interested. I'm one of the few people who prefer TSW's third party system where it's all sold on Steam (or console platform's marketplace) and it just works as a standalone product. It puts a complete stop to these poor practices like requirement lists or monthly subscriptions. As far as I know, Just Trains are the only ones that include default scenarios with their content that just work out the box. At the moment, SimRail is the shiny, new thing and there's a bit of hype around it. It might pay off and they make a big splash, if they do then good luck to them. On the other hand, it might just fizzle out with a bad launch. Personally, I'm staying with TSW and won't be giving SimRail another look-in unless they start releasing UK content, it hasn't done anything to wow me so far. On the other hand, I think TSW has been steadily improving. I've been having the best time with Birmingham Cross City and Bremen - Oldenburg, they're not perfect but they are solid releases. It's been slow progress but overall I'm happy with my experience. This is on PC and without mods, don't need them. I find lot of the negativity towards TSW a bit over the top, most of it is either here on the forums or on the TSC discord server. Since lowering my interaction in the forums and leaving TSC, I've found my general enjoyment of TSW has gone way up. Sometimes other's negativity is just outright draining and it kills your vibe.
As I have stated multiple times, TSW is not giving you anything in replacement for the loss of third-party DLC and free mods.
But there's nothing to lose though, I'm not using mods in the first place because I don't need them. Why do I need a replacement for something I don't need or want to use? Third parties are joining TSW too. We've got JT and ATS jumping into TSW, making more UK content. It's slow going but it is getting better all the time!
Well I spent a very pleasant 3 hours running Sosnowiec Główny box this afternoon and it was absolutely brilliant, talking to the human run boxes either side of me, passing trains back and forth, human drivers passing by and giving us a blast of the horn - it's a whole different experience to existing train sims and I am definitely hooked. And it's not even got kettles in it! I have to say for what a small outfit they are it is an amazing achievement for this level of capability in driving and dispatching.
I believe there will be steam traction in the final retail product. As regards route building, I can see the possible buffer stop there being the need to build the signal panels. Many of us have built routes in MSTS, Trainz or TSC and so long as you place the signals using a few fairly intuitive guidelines it just... works. However setting up an interlocking whether manual, NX or computerised would be a whole different ball game and is going to need in depth S&T design and knowledge as to how everything works. It's possible there might be some sort of auto gen but I wouldn't bet on it.
i feel the same way as far as UK content go but if the editor is good then there are some talented modders out there and so we might see some modded UK routes. I think SimRail just looks more exciting than TSW but only if it delivers. They are such a small team, just imagine if they had the resources of a multi-million pound company like DTG? DTG still can't sort out the RailDriver as promised years ago, it is still in Beta. With Matt DTG are only interested in the next new shiny thing not fixing what was promised. TSW2 will be silently dropped even though TSW3 is the same as TSW2 with added content. I haven't bought TSW3 yet and I'm not alone but was so close to getting it with the Birmingham route but then I saw SimRail and others and if they can prove themselves a worthy contender and I can save money then why wouldn't you jump ship? I'm in no hurry.
Agreed. Absolutely! Sorry man! I wasn't saying you were acting superior! I wasn't referring directly to your post at all. I just got to thinking about how some people in society (politicians, media, etc.) try to force "change" on others for its own sake, and attack those with legitimate criticisms or resistance. My post wasn't directed at you! I agree completely! Again, sorry man... I wasn't referring directly to your post. I went on a wide tangent. I did not get offended by what you said, I just started waxing philosophical. I'm sorry I wasn't clear and that you took it the wrong way! I did not intend to be antagonistic to you!
I appreciate you for taking the time to write this. I promise to be more attentive and put more effort into correctly interpreting messages going forward. I too don't mean to offend you in any way. I apologize if that was not achieved. To sum up, consideting that some have made the leap and discovered nee modes that are super fun to play and that others are not yet convinced, my message was itended to say that change is easy to make and we shouldn't be too tied to something especially when it come to entertainment because that is what this is.
Of course what we did get yesterday evening was the downside of multiplayer. A massive server outage which meant I was back on TSW... (cue High Fives from Matt!) which apparently had also been preceded by a significant amount of ganking and griefing, I.e. people going in both driver and signaller mode doing stupid things, using over-rides etc to try and cause collisions. There was also the more general issue of everything locked up on red signals in the Lazy and Zacwierce areas so you could drive for about 15 minutes then game over. They need to get on top of the anarchic misuse, obviously might die off once people actually have to pay for the game. However that didn't stop the practice ruining Open play in Elite Dangerous where the only solution if you wanted a sensible session with other players was a moderated private server. Something else for DTG to bear in mind if they ever do consider MP - you need a robust system to keep the idiots out. And yes, I quite enjoyed my little bimble along the WSR with uthe 09 - you can have an even wider smile now DTG Matt ...
Good for you. Many of us do not feel the same way. I am using the term "third party" to refer to those who release stuff outside of DTG.
Still seems a bit broken this evening, getting server connection failure at the main menu. Back to my 09...
Asking here since the official English-language forum is painfully sparse: Will this game have an actual, offline, single-player component? I've been enjoying the MP playtest and was excited to try the SP playtest component, which was due to launch on the 21st, but it's..... just more loco tutorials. I have a sinking feeling that this will be the extent of SP content- tutorials to prepare you for MP. Am i being paranoid in thinking what releases on Jan 13th will just be exactly what's already in the playtest? Is any additional content confirmed to be coming for launch?
Never watched the full video but it could be the answer. For me, SP is a mystery too. You could be right about tutorials-only The full planned route is Katowice - Warszawa plus Katowice - Sędziszów. 13th? We will see. It will be hard in my opinion. BR o7
Having been playing the play test I can safely say I won’t be buying it on release it’s just not for me. The sim has potential don’t get me wrong however at present I just can’t bring myself to say I could purchase it and enjoy it.
I'm pretty sure it will have more single player content but it wasn't ready for release during the playtest. They can't have a whole section with nothing in it. Simrail is quite a massive game after all. Probably going to be like different runs you can do or similar to multiplayer without the mp aspect. I'm not interested in simrail at all during my experience in the playtest. It doesn't really feel amazing or anything
I think it has potential. Agree with you about it being way too bright, and the draw distance is pretty terrible too. This can all be fixed though. The physics is my biggest concern. I guess we're just going to have to see what the full release has in store.
I have become a little skeptical over the last few days to the point I haven't gone back into the MP bear pit even (my Covid bout not helping either)! I have an uneasy feeling those like me who were expecting a TSW style 24 hour timetable for SP are going to be singularly disappointed. I reckon it will be a series of TSC style scenarios and reading the latest forum threads and the dev responses I'm really not seeing this ready for release two weeks tomorrow. They still refuse to answer whether there will be a save game for SP or not, the silence increasingly leads me to believe there won't be, at least not initially which again points to short(ish) scenarios that can be accomplished in an hour or so of gameplay. More than happy to be proved wrong and none of the above lets DTG off any hooks as regards TSW, but I need convincing.
On the subject of being the signaller.... This popped up the other day https://fb.watch/hJMgm8sa4i/ It's called signalbox, and set in the 70's UK
Looks similar to the one IHH was working on but less far along. Edit: And back to SimRail, by the looks of one of the posts on the official forum, the griefers and gankers have fully infiltrated and ruined the multiplayer experience. Very sad but not unexpected and gives credence to the fact if you have MP in any game environment it has to be done carefully with all sorts of precautions in place.
Painfully obvious that you can't have open lobbies or games, have to have a private setting and invite who you can trust. However that puts the onus on you to have a stack of friends to play with who all think along the same lines, which a lot of people won't have. This is one of the reasons for being put off developing MP - will it be used? How many people have a group ready to go, would you develop for such small numbers? Would you want the extra hassle of disciplining players for in-game actions etc? Inevitably someone will be there who wants to crash trains into each other "for the lols". A lot of other games involve collisions and so on.
I have zero trolling-like problems playing SimRail. I know, they exist, but this is a niche. The "group" is not mandatory as well too. But you play it or just a theory about how impossible it is?
I played a game as a dispatcher and someone was stopped on a cleared path, blocking all the rest (mostly AI), but it kinda ruined it for me.
Like in a real life. Ready or not or SP ready. Not for everyone. Like in CSrtike. I play mp and sometimes lose. Others play just with bots to no not lose // hard way or ez way a matter of what you like
yes and the difference being your playing with a small selected number of people in a play test. Come back in a few weeks time when it’s fully released to unlimited numbers and see how the trolling is. As TSW is on gsme pass that just opens it up to trolls more if it were to come to TSW the trolls/idiots whatever you want to call them who will just cause havoc on multiplayer then have a free for all to ruin it. I bet your attitude towards it would change rather quickly and you would be here rather quickly moaning to dtg to do something about it
Bet once it gets relesed, there is gonna be those edgy people that does trolling in multi-player to get the lol views and likes on their YouTube channel. (Or tik tok)
There are many reasons why I player would have been stopped. In simrail for instance, if you are a noob and don't know the controls of the train or how to reset after an emergency brake application by the safety systems, then the player is going to be stuck there a while until they figure it out. Like me, I got tripped by the safety systems and I had to spend a good 10 minutes figuring out what to press. Pressed like every single button before I figured it out. What I'm saying is that sometimes you can't really get mad at the player for having stopped in an open piece of track. It's not always their fault and they may be new to the game. It might ruin it for you but if there are any new players, they won't know what to do
You are missing my point let me make it more clear. TSW is FREE to play for anyone who has gamepass that makes it available to a wider audience. As others have said that just opens it up to a whole Lot of problems for the sad little trolls who make silly little YouTube channels for attention and likes by ruining the game for others. Don’t believe us here is a very simple solution. Go on YouTube just now and search “truckers no trolling” you will find lots of silly little channels from attention seekers who go on truck sim multiplayer and ruin they for genuine players. Would you really want that sort of issue in train sim world. I certainly wouldn’t
Trouble is the damage is done now. You might be lucky and get on a server where there is no disruption but why have an hour of gameplay potentially ruined? You have no idea where the troublemakers might be lurking and some no doubt bide their time until the server is full and they can get maximum attention. SimRail MP is a great idea on paper (and it was good to play for a few days), ruined by the sad reality of inevitable human nature.
You still have to pay a monthly subscription for game pass lol. And if you don't play a lot of games on there, it can get quite expensive and little value for what you're paying each month
I don't know, i haven't had a ton of problem with griefers, and the netcode seems to hold up pretty well at least. I think the biggest issue with stopped trains holding everything up is people still learning how to recover from penalty brake, etc. I think it's too early to judge until the full release, though i'll admit i'm not as excited as i was before the playtest as it seems more and more apparent that SP is a very small part of the total package, and might even just be tutorials. I think the biggest issue with the full release won't be griefing ($30 is kind of a lot to spend just to be a troll), but rather post-launch support and keeping the player count high enough to continue development. I'm a little surprised they haven't gone the Early Acess route, as it seems like that would be a good fit for this kind of project.
I initially enjoyed my time with SimRail, but after having dispatchers intentionally throw trains to incorrect tracks and drivers who cannot or will not operate their trains as expected, I am not planning on continuing with SimRail beta nor pick it up on release. Unrestricted multiplayer is not a great experience.
I'm certainly not doing any more in the beta, whether I Day 1 buy the release version as I say is currently up in the air. If they can sort out the griefing issue and put some protection systems in place, all well and good.
well If that’s the case then we don’t require multiplayer then do we do long as we can accomplish driving a train which is what TSW does then multiplayer is a waste of resources. Glad we agree on something
Not exactly. Better to drive with others or at least have an option to do it this way, in my opinion. It's like riding a motorcycle for me. To nowhere. Preferably with other fans. Chess, footbal, tennis, party, more and more examples, more games, more life, to do something not alone. Really strange perhaps?

So what? Are you saying that F1 games shouldn't have multiplayer? Should battlefield not have multiplayer? Forza Horizon 5 and Microsoft Flight Simulator shouldn't have multiplayer then? I guess bus simulator shouldn't have multiplayer either? Yes you may find "trolls" in some multiplayer lobbies but frankly that isn't a excuse to not have multiplayer. I don't hear calls for multiplayer to be removed from games that have them because a couple of trolls ruined the fun. If you don't like multiplayer in any game, just don't use it. It's so simple. There are some that don't like multiplayer and don't want it here are also those that tell people if they don't like something to not buy it or use it. Perhaps they should heed their own advice when it comes to multiplayer
all the games you mentioend are a different format. If you have a troll sitting idle on a race track you drive around them, battlefield is an open map game so i fail to see how that is relevant. Forza horizon 5 again a racing sim drive around them. flight simulator you navigate around them. See the pattern here. what do youo do when you have someone blocking the track in front of you hhhhmmmmmmmmmm let me tell you one thing you cant do and that is DRIVE AROUND THEM. God forbid someone has a different opinion over you that you jump down there throat.
See man and there you are completely wrong as this is nice challenge for dispatchers. If there is 2 tracks then you can go around them. And for example in TSW there is only Arosa, WSR with one track only if i remember that right. The rest of the routes got 2 tracks, there is one with even 4 tracks (GWR). And then there is for example RRO which got 2 ways how to get into the final destinations. So if they block main line you can still go around with fast trains. Every block on track is challenge for dispatcher.
Unless of course the said troll has their train parked on the switch on the 2 tracks, so you can't route around.
Not wrong far from it what if a troll blocks the track before the platform i am booked to stop at. YOUR logic is a dispatcher will route we around them thats all well and good but what if they cant route me around them into the platform i am booked to stop at. What if the troll is sitting across a junction of points blocking the entrance to the point you have to do. Your TRYING to come up with answers to justify my comment but your failing. Tell me how a dispatcher can route my train around a troll and get me into the platform if there is no route from the work around into that platform that is "blocked" do enlighten me. And before you say route around then reverse into a platform that is not a soloution to the problem and defeats the purpose.
Just report such players. Now the game is free (to play for testing) but it is hard to imagine people buying 10 copies of some train sim to troll, being baned and troll again. I have zero trolling-like encounters so some of you are very unlucky. I mean ZERO. // The developers have mentioned that MP will be limited in certain cases. The tests are also there to recognize these needs.
