I bought TSW 2020 as a digital download and I have to say, I can't believe DTG wanted to make a serious game. Why is the draw distance absolute bollocks?

Fences just magically become whole in about 3 metres.
The track is appearing in large chunks.
The trains themselves look utter crap.
    Buggy as hell in general.

I cannot believe this is the limit of the PS4. This is a developer issue and by the sounds of it it's been unaddressed and going on for some time.

Have DTG given up with the console users? Because I fail to see them addressing it, yet they're happy to rip of customers and release a game that's 70% finished.

Hell, even the scenery up ahead looks like Minecraft. The beautiful town of Leipzig would be GREAT to see if it didn't remind me of Lego...

...or is there an update I haven't downloaded yet?

Either way, I'll have to try and get a refund somehow.

I completely disagree. I'm actually impressed that we got a simulation on consoles.

My first impressions with TSW was amazing. The only time I can think of getting this excited for a video game was way back when I played the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta on Xbox 360.
I was quite impressed by the amount of detail, huge routes, and the beautiful trains and interior cabs... The framerate might not be 60fps, but I'm still enjoying the game regardless. Even though the draw distances aren't too great either, I think overall the game looks fantastic (of course, it looks better on PC).

This is a PC port, and hasn't been built ground-up for consoles. There's a reason you don't see sims coming on consoles. You can refund the game all you want, but I'll continue enjoying TSW! I'm loving it.

Also, can you name one game that has better looking locomotives? I'll be waiting. ;)

Absolute crap tier post. The game runs fine on consoles, aside from the bugs, be realistic. Are you a Sony fanboy that expects everything to look like God of War or other first party movie games?

I have all the routes available and yes there are issues, however if you want good graphics then purchase a PC.

All the issues noted in the OP are the same on the PC unless you want to twiddle with the background ini files. It's not about limitations and crapness of a PS4 in comparrison, it also has a lot to do with DTG learning how to use the UE4 engine and all the addons they've made as they go along
MattP himself has said that they tried to do too much in GWE and it caused issues that they're addressing now in newer DLC, but as we know they don't go back and resolve the issues in the old DLC so legacy issues prevail

Yeah good luck with that refund, you're more likely to grow wings then get a refund for a digital game.

Maybe you should have looked up some gameplay first before buying? Seems like common sense to me. Also how exactly do the trains look bad?

The game has flaws but there ain't anything else like this on the console market, so i'm grateful for what we have, not angry for what we don't.

The only big problem for me with this game is the average frame rate. I'm pretty sensitive about that and I'm sure I exaggerate a bit, but I'm tired of stuttering. Of course there are bugs, some of them pretty annoying, and developers are slow in fixing them. How the hell is possible that the tunnel bug in LIRR is stilI there? I totally disagree about locomotives. They're well modeled and detailed...

How do the locos look bad? You've seen it right? Anything 10m or so in the distance and they're shiny blocks. I can't be grateful for spending money on something half made. This is the same as the backlash Project Cars 2 got and the developers issued a heartfelt apology. DTG doesn't seem to have done that. There isn't a lot of information online about the console versions bad graphics anyway so I decided to try it.

It's a PS4 which is capable of running nearly PC quality graphics with no stuttering or glitches etc. That's not much to expect nor ask for.

It's really stupid to say "can you name one game that has better looking locos" when referring to a console version of a game. It has nothing to do with that. What is the point of having a good detailed loco if 10m or so away from it, it's blurry? It's an absolute piss-take that a company could find it acceptable to publish. Sorry, but there isn't a single avid gamer who appreciates good all-round results that wouldn't be buffed by this. Games are an art form and part of that is to expect something which the console is capable of running. And if you like it, great, but I don't and I think I'm fair in my assessment that it's a shame.

Seems like an issue on your end. I could come up with a million things about DTG I'd like to see improved, but graphics sure ain't one of 'em.

We obviously all have different standards of acceptability. The only issue I have with the graphics is the shadow draw distance. Apart from that, it looks pretty stunning to me.

I'm ok with it, actually. The pop-up is a shame at times, but on the whole, the game looks great and runs fine on my PS4 Pro. Certainly nothing like Minecraft - you millenials crack me up!

If you can find a huge, well staffed studio willing to pour Slightly Mad / Bandai Namco levels of cash and resources into producing a very niche train sim for a relatively tiny pool of console users, then do let us know and i'm sure we'll all be on board. I'm not saying TSW is a perfect product and we all know there are issues (not that graphic quality is high on that list), but comparing this with Project cars 2 in any capacity is just plain nonsense.

Good luck with that refund :)

Attributing someone's annoyance to being a millennial is pretty stupid.

Project Cars 2 was an indie development game with a near equally small development team..so yea, I can compare them. Clearly you don't see the issue with releasing an incomplete game, failing to address the concerns, releasing updates that don't fix them and not even acknowledging the problems. But in the real world, when a company releases a game they should release one which works fully or near to that extent. The graphics and draw distances are absolutely shocking and isn't the nice scenery part and parcel of enjoying a train Sim? It certainly is for me

An issue my end yet there's a lot all over the internet about it? Yea mate, sure.

The draw distance is attrocious which ruins the game.. what's the point in having good graphics if a few metres later and they're crap?

What would you suggest the draw distance should be? and don't forget we're talking about thousands of items being individually 3D rendered at a relative speed anywhere from 0mph to 250mph and that's even without taking into account overspeeding

So you bought a £25 game and didn't like it, we all make mistakes with our money, we learn from it and move on, but you sound like you want to get the government involved and have the devs charged for fraud. Just chill it ain't the end of the world.

There is plenty of console footage and reviews on the net, I don't know about you but I always research a game before buying it, maybe you should of done the same.

As I said before this game has many issues, but there is a right and wrong way to deliver criticism. I still don't agree that the trains look bad, maybe you've got mud on your screen or something because I have never seen anything like how you described it.

From what I can tell, they have at least a 50% bigger staff and the significantly higher budget which comes from producing a popular mainstream racing game over a pretty niche train simulation. I'd imagine the sales figures for TSW are a tiny fraction of those for PC2 and further development requires that income. You can compare whatever you like, apples, oranges, doesn't make them the same.

I'm not sure, but having it the way it currently is? Bad. The rails loading in blocks, it doesn't take much for the resolution to drop and everything to become fuzzy. It's just a pointless thing to have when it could be improved with an update. Maybe a good few hundreds metres would be better, but currently it's a lot less.

Have you tried zooming out away from the train though? You can't tell me it doesn't become fuzzy?

I did research it but you can't always tell from videos that don't match the same quality as what's coming through the console.

And of course I wouldn't want the devs charged with fraud, or anything like that. It's nothing to do with the price either. It's got everything to do with the fact that it's apparently been like it for years and no one has bothered to fully address it and other bugs that still plague the game. It's the principal. I didn't come here to explain myself. I came to talk about it and hope a dev would see it, but clearly they have better things to do like make money off of people.

Well, you've certainly done that, and at length. Yes, a dev will probably see at least a dozen of your posts saying that the popup distance is quite short and yes, they are going to be more focused on running a commercial business where they make money from people buying their products than dropping everything to immediately fix your specific gripe. Maybe you could take a little break from TSW, play something with less 'crap' graphics and a further draw distance for a while, and if they release an update to sort it out, we'll be sure to let you know.

It's been a problem for over 2 years by the sounds of it. That's more than enough time. It has nothing to do with the size of the team or anything like that and there are a myriad of comments relating to putting out DLC and not fixing current and ongoing issues. I think that's more than enough reason to be annoyed. Anyway, moving on.

Some points you made may be valid, but the post way too hyper negative to respond to. If the product is that bad, yes, move on. No point complaining to people who like the game (despite the bugs and graphical limits)

As much as I want to disagree, quite a bit of what you say is true. TSW isn't all that bad, no, but it isn't perfect by all means. The up close graphics typically look great, but as you stated rendering distance, I'm tired of driving my acs-64 on air. And headlights don't even appear from a distance. The trains do load in chunks, one minute you're driving down the tracks, the next another train appears like Mary Poppins. And on Peninsula Corridor, I dare you take the camera above the gp38-2, it lags and crashes. This is on Xbox one I might add.

If more people were hyper negative, things would get changed quicker. That's generally how it works. If more people are laid back, it's not seen as something that needs to be fixed. DTG should be ashamed of themselves either way. The previous iteration holds the record for the highest paid DLC content in video game history and that's nothing to be happy about, considering the base game was never solid as it could have been. Anyway, we'll see what happens in a million years I guess.

    1) This is the first train simulator on consoles
    2) Sim games are a rare breed on consoles. They've only recently started popping up. What have we to compare TSW with, Bus Simulator? Farm Simulator? Truck Simulator? War Thunder? How do those games look in comparison? Be honest.
    3) This is a PC port. Any developer can attest that porting PC to console is difficult. I think we're even lucky having TSW available.
    4) It's not a triple A title!
    5) Comparing TSW to its PC counterpart is unfair.

    Let's be realistic here.
But you are free to refund the game ASAP. I would recommend doing so. Come back when the PS5 comes out, and do some research before purchasing the game. Twitch and YouTube are a good source to see how games run and get second opinions.

If people stop buying it things would change quicker... I think that negativity around DTG's products has been shown to not make a difference

This shows naivety on your part.
Each DLC is a standalone product in it's own right, the same as with all other simulations so it's not like DLC in other types of games. The only things you need to play this sim are the core engine (what people often refer to as "the game") a route and an engine, but each route is distinct and doesn't have to be related to the others, same with consists so to say "the most expensive DLC"...?
Only if you bought every single scrap of them, but you in no way need to.
The other point is that you don't have to even buy half of them to get them, for instance the Class 70 comes with two similar routes (both SWML based), the class 101 has two packs but if you buy the new one you get the old one free etc etc

So again, your comments on draw distance and visuals, valid. Other comments...? Might want to look / think a bit longer on those ones.

Im on a base PS4. Love the game. Ive had it since August 2018 and can say with confidence that TSW has improved by every route thats released. Draw distance on something like NTP- is barely noticeable especially in the right weather settings apart from maybe the long tunnel.
Framerate- is getting better. These locos have tons going on under the hood.
The devs are coming up with new ways of doing things. The latest route RRO- 2 seperate lines, lots of complex routing and signalling. Much more dense scenery.
Give this game a chance, learn the various systems. If youre at all interested in the railways, Im sure you’ll start enjoying it. I bought this game out of curiosity, Im football mad, have Pes20, Fifa20 but if my time spent on the PS4 was logged. TSW would easily have the Lions share.
