In the TSW 7 FAQ it states "...we've made the decision to end challenges for new routes, to focus on a more seasonal approach".

It added, however, that monthly mastery challenges to unlock new posters will continue.

So, what does it mean exactly by a seasonal approach? Are mastery scenery tile rewards no longer going to be a thing? These are perhaps one of my most favourite features of TSW across the years and really add some unique and interesting things.

    What's everybody's thoughts?

i never really made a point of *doing* mastery but really enjoyed the surprise unlock of a cool scenery tile, like the battersea lights, cathcart ufo or the Fife shark.

I think though to be fair, posters are probably a little less resource intensive than a full blown scenery tile, i cant prove it but i have long suspected that turning them on affects FPS performance

I'm hoping the "more seasonal approach" means that they will work more on how things look in the different seasons. Things like crops that are planted in a season, grow at the next season then they are collected in the next season. Or some stations can have Xmas decorations near the end of the year, or you can see leaves carried by the wind in october, etc ... That kind of stuff.

This is a bit of a shame because I actually enjoyed doing the route masteries.
It's something I definitely saw coming after how long it took to get a route mastery on Thames Branches and there not being one Nuremberg Ingolstadt either yet to my knowledge

Personally I’m glad these are going, if there’s extra scenery available for a route then it should just be there, not behind requirements that require you to potentially do something you have no interest in and/or don’t track anyway.

Don’t get me wrong, they can do whatever with nonsense like UFO’s & Pirate Ships, but things like the tarp covered 76 should just be there.

Read this in the FAQ and I was pretty shocked. I don’t get why this is being removed… it was a great way for developers to add a little extra to their route. They had the freedom to do something a bit over-the-top or unrealistic because it could be toggled on/off by the players. And it added a nice additional challenge for the players as well.
I always loved unlocking the scenery tiles and looking for them as I drove past. Very disappointing decision.

They did mention it, but can't remember if they were talking about what happens in real life or what they are adding to the game.

I wonder if this was part of the ongoing optimization process. Was removing route masteries a quick way to free up a chunk of memory?

so long as masteries go wrong with not updating for everyone
or having to load in the mastery a few times to get all the earned tiers loaded
they might as well stop with it completely
