I've still only played the UK routes in TSW5. I love both to be honest, though I think I've driven the 390 over Shap more than I have at the southern end. I really must take a look at the other routes over the weekend. I also have to admit that it is the mods that really make the DTG WCML route. It's one of those routes where it's a pleasure to stand on a platform and see what turns up next. I hope there's more of that to come, I think the GWE remaster is going to be a stunner too. Cardiff? I may give it a go, but really I'm looking forward to the next electric UK route from DTG, wherever that may be. Hopefully sometime before the end of 2025.
I can't actually remember. I'm assuming not if I didn't notice it. But then again, I've driven on so many TSW and TSC routes in the last few weeks, it's all a blur.
The neutral sections on Shap definitely work. Unless DTG or Rivet have gone back and added them with a silent patch, weren’t they omitted on WCMLS?
I read it, as far as Shap is concerned, that he meant it in the context of ‘do they work with the Pendalino?’
I don't think they would do anything with the pendolino would they? Hasn't it got panto's at both ends. Last time I run the 87 down wcmls, the neutral sections worked.
One word answer - Rivet. On Edinburgh to Glasgow they are there but none operational which is probably just as well, because the advance warning board at some of the locations is too close to the neutral zone itself, like on the approach to Haymarket from the west.
The R word I didn’t want to say Yep Rivet is the reason it’s in such a mess. Shame as I say the route just can’t be ripped up and started from scratch, Rivet won’t even give them the date for the timetable they did.
That sounds more like it. AFAIR they didn’t even put the yellow boxes on the ground or associated feed equipment on the OHLE.
Ohhhh Interesting I think then it must only be the 87, don't think the 350/390 has the Neutral mechanism implemented into them which is such a shame
How about glitches such as "international rescue" that have had people sitting at a broken red light for months, if not an entire year and dtg can't be bothered to fix it. This is one of countless glitches like this. It's junk, plain and simple and so is dtg. If you like the game and think it's great, more power to you, that's your perogative and you, as I do and everyone else does, have a right to express your opinion.
Your opinion, I don't share it. There's not a day that goes by where I don't run into a bugged route that I can't finish. Literally sitting at 42864 now, staring at a red light at the very beginning that won't change. Been sat here a full 30 minutes. Have quit and restarted and gone through everything that others have mentioned, still can't start. Lets talk about the glitches and stuttering with 10fps. Lets talk about CONSTANT crashing of the game. I can go on but theres no point with fanboys such as yourself who see a polished turd and think, boy, thats shiny and beautiful. To a realist like me, a polished turd will always be nothing more than a polished turd. The game is literally, JUNK.
ignoring the thomas add on because i really dont care about it. Mostly a flop. I mean what else is the usual? Routes getting cut in the middle of nowhere. Routes are short and linear and expected us to pay a fortune. No new trains for certain new routes. yea i'd say so. the only gem in the UK scene have is upcoming GWE remaster and WCML over shap. Thats it. I am glad I am transitioning to TSC, an older game but worth my money much more in terms of route coverage.
If you're getting constant crashes and 10fps, there's more likely a problem with your system rather than the game itself. I've never experienced frame rates anywhere near that low, nor have I been frequenting crashes. We get it, you're not happy with it. But to call it junk, when there's evidence to prove otherwise, is ridiculous. And before you say it, I'm nowhere near a "fanboy".
It really is laughable, isn't it, that the fan boys defend this garbage heap, with such vigor. I mean, I'm currently doing a Würzburg run in the pouring rain and the windscreen wipers will not turn on. No big deal but just another addition to the, "it's junk" pile of proof...
I don't think it's a massive flop. But I do agree that currently the game is the most unstable it has been in the 5 years I've been playing. And something needs to be done quickly to rectify it.
EXCATLY. Defending developers that did "no wrongs" cutting routes in such unreasonable locations, "a route made by a single person should be voided of any criticism because its one person what the LOVE* did you expect". And no this aint aiming solely at incredible trains. Its to all developers that cuts route in the middle of nowhere. At this point you might as well go back and work on routes and trains for TSC. I would rather pay 70 pounds for an 3rd party add on that contains an entire MML or GWML and break my PC rather than 70 pounds of mostly slop that can crash my PC. Because at least I can have a blast throughout an entire network.
And then there's people like you who declare it junk no matter what despite evidence proving the contrary (its one of the top 5 train games according to steam not including other platforms - which directly contradicts your "the game is junk" statement) is literally evidence its not as bad as you're making it out to be), and attempt to demonise those who actually like the game. And stop calling us fanboys.
tbh my own thoughts on how TSW its the top 5 train games on steam. Its just that there werent other much options for train simulators... And just so happen among the Top 5 is TSW. Thats it... Of course its not all bad, but I agree with the other guy here. Fanboys protects everything wrong and or bad and roars at anything thats actually good. I have seen facebook discussion about how I praise over shap for being what TSW routes should've been (or some of the sort i cant remember but its something similar) and then there is just a fanboy yapping "Are you parising JustTrains just because they are overated" again i cant remember the converstaion. I know there are good stuff in TSW but those amount isnt more than the amount of bad apples within TSW's catalog. At least that is what I usually see with what fanboys are defending. Let alone the bugs that the developers would regularly ignore and pretend those do not exist because money money money money.
Whilst I'm not blind to its issues, I don't think TSW deserves the negativity it recieves.. I've been playing the TSW games since 2018 and I'm sick to death of DTG giving us a new TSW game that looks identical to one before it every year. Over the years, the amount of DLCs I get increases meaning that I have more and more dlcs to re-download every year which takes up a lot of time (we're taking hours) and I'm not the only one who hates doing this every year. Whilst I wouldn't say that TSW5 is a flop, I does have areas that need improvement. I wouldn't mind if we were given a couple of months where developers (both DTG and their 3rd party devs) stopped giving us DLCs and focused on fixing the bugs and other issues with their routes and other DLCs (this is excluding JT whos DLCs are fault-less). FYI, I play on Xbox Series S
It is clear if you use the word fanboys you have already decided you won't listen to an opposing opinion, I find petty name calling childish. TSW isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination and I can think of several things which drive me barmy but it is hardly junk, which is not only insulting but shows a lack of thought. If it is junk why are so many managing to enjoy it. Some posters are best left to their little coterie!
I definitely wouldn't go as far as saying it's junk that is a very extreme opinion, I've said in other threads, between TSW2020 and TSW4, there have been clear improvements to the overall quality of the game, and a clear evolution in terms of features since the games early days. The problem with TSW5 is, for its UK content at least, it does feel incredibly rushed and thrown together. Saint Bernardino Line is really well made, as was the German route. So I wouldn't say it's completely rubbish, but it does feel very rushed and seems to have lost the edge both TSW3 & TSW4 had (for me at least). Whilst I don't think it's rubbish, I do predict it's UK content has started to decline, and will continue to over the next year. Regardless of the mileage, it's hard to go from something as good as GOBLIN to WCMLS, it's a clear decline... Sadly there is no real, competition, or at least an equivalent of the same quality to get DTG to pull their socks up, or to compete with them so the game constantly has an edge to it... They seem to have got the market cornered with no competition in sight. I think competition would certainly (and very quickly) sort any ongoing issues out to make sure they retained players.
Oh its petty of us to say what is wrong with a specific content then when there are people over protecting something that it really is? So anybody who tries to criticise the game for where it needs improvement are all petty people then. There are good apples and bad apples within TSW I will say that again, most of us here are really aiming for the bad apples to make them good apples by saying what can be improved. I have already rest my case of things I do like about this "flopped" game and is honestly what I appreciate.
I'm sorry that's your experience. I have only found one route in all my hundreds of hours of playing that was truly "broken." I've never gotten 10 fps. Can count the total number of crashes in 2 years on one hand. Again, I'm sorry for your bad experience, but are you sure it's the game? Seems weird the same "buggy game" would work flawlessly in one case and 90% fail on another...unless it's party the system to blame. Or rather, things between the game and that specific system. I don't know your system specs, what programs and apps you have installed, DLC, creator content, etc. Something must be not right to get 10 fps however. Maybe you could share some details and the helpful community could assist with figuring it out?
The last major problem I had with TSW was 2 crashes earlier this year on TSW4. ECML at Doncaster and SEHS at Stratford. That was on an Xbox One. The game's ran smoothly since I got a Series X (unrelated to the problems I had with TSW), and even now on TSW5, its still stable. Minor performance issues occur from time to time, as the game is not perfect by any means, but there's been absolutely nothing that's turned me away except my own boredom - which is rare in itself. If it were junk, literally no one, including myself, would touch it. In fact, because of the two crashes I mentioned, I turned away from it for a while, I think for around 2 months I didn't touch it at all.
I’ve been called a lot of things before but fanboy has never been one of them. Feel free to call me whatever you want but as I said earlier, it doesn’t actually change the facts. The game doesn’t always crash btw, nor does it give people 10fps. We all play the same game, the software is identical for everyone. The variable is the machine, and it sounds like yours is where you need to be turning your attention, not lashing out at anything and anyone who disagrees with you. Yours sincerely, FanBoy
Where did I use the word petty in relation to complaining? I used it in relation to puerile name calling which is getting common on here. Just because someone has a different view doesn't mean they are protecting anything. Believe it or not some are enjoying it. That doesn't mean there aren't problems and that those same people aren't critical. That doesn't make someone a fanboy because they aren't incessantly complaining. And for the record I hope that the performance issues for those who are genuinely struggling are fixed quickly. For me and many others it works fine.
But that's not the case for at least 2/3 of the player base, is it? If you play on PS5 or the latest XBox, the hardware is standard and largely unchangeable. That's where many of the complaints come from. Where's the path forward for these players? There are also many complaints from PC players whose hardware meets or exceeds DTG's own recommendations for playing TSW. Whither can they go? Clearly the game is not optimized for any of the platforms it sells to. If it were, you would see far, far fewer complaints in these pages. Problem is those performance issues are clearly not going to be " fixed quickly ". There are no signs up to and including today's patch that DTG is anywhere close to solving the hitching, stuttering and crashing that so many players complain about. Want to see less moaning and groaning? Persuade the developer to totally prioritize bug fixing and repairing/optimizing the core game for all platforms. Then we might even see less defending and apologizing on which you and some others seem to spend an awful lot of your time. Is it really your fight? Why not leave it to the developer/producer to defend and improve its product?
Excuse me where have I apologised for anyone or any organisation ? You'll also see that I myself have made complaints and continue to do so where something bothers me. I base my comments on my experience of the sim, which is generally positive with some irritations. Unless someone official tells me otherwise, I don't see why I have any less right to comment, as you are doing. Many of the comments here aren't balanced and using words like fanboy and phrases like this game is junk, are just pure drama and hyperbole created by people who seem to want to rant.
I don’t necessarily think TSW is flop, but for the overall experience it’s kind of underwhelming at times. I’m sorry I have to keep coming back to this topic, but ultimately route length will always be an issue for me. Just Trains though have set the bar now with their 100 mile route, it would be nice to see more routes with a similar distance in the future. I know we are all different and some of us like to play for shorter periods of time, but for me if I’m going to play a route I like to spending well over an hour or longer. I suppose I always have TSC to fall back on if I need to cure that itch.
If it's the exact same game and the exact same machine specs, then you can't have different outcomes on consoles by that logic. So... why are some people doing fine and others not? In reality there isn't just one XBox, nor is there one standard system configuration. They can be at different update levels, have different build versions, and even whole different base models (Gen 8 vs later is becoming a huge issue) Regardless, the same game is in the Microsoft and SONY stores since it's just one file downloaded by everyone from the same source, so it can't be the "game" itself or every person downloading it would have the exact same issues. (Unless your game isn't updated regularly, which again wouldn't be a provider issue)
But not everyone has the same DLC installed, or empty space on the hard drive. That is how consoles differ. My biggest gripe are blurry in cab textures on Xbox X. It affects almost half of all routes.
That's sort of my point... those are both user level issues, along with what updates/software they are on and their console versions. But that's all fixable only at the user level. If your hard drive is full so your console is struggling for memory.... DTG can't fix that.
Well... as to this special question about how is TSW nowadays?, I believe it is a not simple reply. From the days I started with train simulations from MSTS to TSW5 has been a huge improvement, without doubts! One previous big step was the change from MSTS to TSW - the first one. I can not believe what I saw it! A very detailed 3d CSX locomotive and freight cars, but also the scenery too.. But when I saw you can stand up from the driver cab, and walk away and goes out of the locomotive and walk around... That was incredible! Then some time later my PC it broke. For some years I did not have time for sims. Then later I purchased a PS4. I started with TSW 2020. Last year y bought a PS5, considering all the new features and memory requirements! Of course that change was huge! So from that one to the latest TSW5, the evolution was clear! Of course with each change, there was not the same in terms of improvements, talking about being more realistic, and having more new features. Nothing and nobody is perfect! DTG has been making lot of fixes and also made some surveys to us. So in conclusion... I believe it is a reasonable good simulator, but has room to improve.
For me i have the 2 tb expansion for the Series X, on the internal drive I have just my TSW library installed and the OS. That takes up 68%. I have everthing but the 1938 LU, Scotrail Class 158. The 2 Arosa packs, and the Rivet engineering express installed. And I uninstalled the original LIRR. All the rest of my games are on the expansion storage and that is only 27% full. I dont seem to get the massive stutters, extreme low FPS or routes crashing at the final station as others and generally haven't found a service I can't complete yet. Just the blurry texture issue, which generally seems to be mostly modern locos affected and only consoles. Execept Frankfurt-Fulda. It seems to just be a beast of a route between Frankfurt and Hanau with low FPS.
That's a decent system. TSW has a LOT of DLC as you point out. It adds up fast. With games now more and more demanding to be installed natively (on the internal drive, not the external) it'll get harder and harder to not fill the HD up, especially for people with smaller systems. Hopefully the next generation comes soon and has more storage. I'd even be good with the same speed if it just had more storage space. Having to unload and load games onto the HD constantly to play them is a real pain. That's not a problem just for TSW though. Most people I know hover at over 90% storage space full as they try to "squeeze" the most they can out of that with bigger and bigger games, and I know from experience that can tank system performance. It's discussed in a different thread, but this is a huge reason that there aren't "much bigger maps." As much as some people claim that "storage space is not an issue on consoles."
"Fanboy" is a description of an overly biased "fan", which clearly, you are. Again, your experience vs my experience. You make a gross generalization that "the game doesn't always crash", clearly it does, otherwise there wouldn't be hundreds upon hundreds or even thousands of complaints about crashing. THIS literally is the definition of what a fanboy is. Let's just agree to disagree and move on young man...yeah?
Oh just lloked up fanboy in yhe Urban Dictionary. I certainly am a fanboy. Of toast. You can't say anything wrong about it and I will fight to death to defend heated bread!!!! This whole fanboy vs hater thing is so old.
