This question could be something strange for you.
But running on Koln Aachen and Sand Patch Grade, I did not see the round sun never, as we had on TSW.
You see the light coming from one part, but not see the shape of the sun in the sky.

Even I noticed strange effects of lights on the scenery.
I mean when you see the train from the front the train and the scenery is illuminated at the back.
When you go back view, you see the train and scenery illuminated at front!
The light of the locomotive it is not so powerful.
At the side of the train it is darker.
    This is not right.
The light must come from one the sun is positioned.

    Please see the attached images:

The shadows are only drawn in up to a short distance from your camera position. The parts in shadow are how it should be. The bits with sunlight shining on them should also be in shadow. In your example the sun hasn’t risen above the hill yet but because of the short shadow draw distance, lots of things are lit by it because the shadow of the hill is missing.

Thank you for your reply and comments!.
Yes I know the sun has not risen yet. But anyway the effect is strange, and no natural at all.
Anyway this was just a comment.
I have clear this is a simulator, sometimes it is difficult to exactly made the natural effects of the real world.

    But what about the sun?
I saw the moon even on daytime. Very nice.
But I did not have seen the sun as it was on TSW, with its clear round shape.
I made several timetables at different times.
    Did you see it?

To be honest, I’ve not looked for it yet. I’ll have a look next time I play.

I haven't seen it either yet on Köln-Aachen (play mostly there) and I asked myself the same question. No sun when playing at noon for example like in Train Sim World 1. I am playing on XBox One X btw.

I can confirm there is no sun in the sky... I’ll post in the tech reports section.

Yes, it is really strange, and payed my attention!
It was an important feature on TSW 2020.
    Thank you Stujoy!

Yes I noticed as well. A lovely moon on a clear night, but no sun.
Traced the shadows on the lampposts to try and find it :)

Stephen, in my case it was not a night
Yes I saw the moon during daylight!
I was looking the train from a very low point of view, and I noticed it above in the sky!
I do not run Sand Patch at night yet. I did with DB ICE, but it was cloudy.
    Please check these pictures.

That's actually quite realistic when the moon gets to that size! I'm going to have to look for that one. I'm surprised the moon's timing has been modelled so realistically. Maybe there is a time-progression simulation going on inside unreal engine, not that I know. But still haven't found the sun as yet!
