Maybe they made the mistake of releasing so many add-ons together in a short space of time. I still argue that Cardiff needed more time in the oven, but instead it was rushed out to us pay pigs and expected the fix’s later. Apart from a few S-Bahn and a few train packs not much to look forward to until the summer time when the cursed yearly cycle of the game kicks and we’re forced to upgrade again, I hope that’s not the case though as would prefer for DTG to keep working and improving TSW5.
Only the British can laugh at someone whilst being called that amazing word. I take more offence being called a Lemon than a woman’s private parts.
I'm just playing the large amount of DLC they have been releasing lately, and will be for a few more weeks. So not really an issue that there is less on the horizon now.
The Eagles famously said that hell would have to freeze over before they reformed as a band, they did so somewhere there must be a hell that's frozen, so looks like it's okay to buy TSW6 when it shows up......
look at TSW3 release, "enough is enough" started in this day The success of TSW5 is Free update They can charge you Is the route good? Sorry, pack included. You have no choice
I don't mind a free upgrade but downloading all of my content again does not sit well with me. Every year they've done it they messed some kind of platform up Would really love a rush hour like update honestly You could even get rid of the number systems and just have core updates honestly it'd be so much easier than having to scratch up features that aren't available on release. Seems like so much less of a faff
Even funner fact, with the right knowhow all of TSW5s initial routes worked on TSW4, I'm unsure if thats still the case though.
I’m not really sure I could go through that again on the PC, let alone the total faff on the PS5. In the event someone senior at DTG is reading this, I do hope whatever plans they are making include seamless transfer of owned content from the old version to the new so all the player - customer - has to do is a few button or mouse clicks to confirm the process.
Would be nice to get a non London-centric route. 3 of the previous 5 have been based in the capital haven’t they?
Chiltern would be a chance to work in a Class 68, which they could then later re-release in DRS condition as a new freight loco. Not a bad idea...
Give me my beloved Waterloo to Guildford route via the fast and commuter lines including Hampton Court with the 450 and 455 DTG pretty please
That would be even more interesting. As long as we get all the 455 sub-variants I'm happy with whatever era we get.
Unfortunately when they gave the "store front" reason for a new version every year Matt also said this will always remain as well. And that it is a pain in the rear end for them as well because they have to re-certify all the DLC as well. So I'm sure if they could avoid it they would. But prepare for a day of dowloading again in September. Or overnight.
It’s a bit sad that we’re talking about an upcoming release through gritted teeth and with a sense of dread/resignation rather than excitement. Kind of sums up what this game has become to me though: “oh no, what will they break this time…?” Still annoyed that my old routes are way too dark/contrasty to want to play in TSW5, and don’t have the disk space to keep multiple versions of the same game installed. Over half the “old” DLC looks dreadful on the latest platform, and the more half-baked new stuff they churn out the less chance there is of the older stuff being brought up to scratch. Feels to me that if I buy DLC today it’s probably going to be broken by TSWn in a year or two’s time… (if it isn’t already broken to start with)…
Well yes, because these annual rereleases are completely pointless. While I bet most of us are curious to see what the new content will be, the concept of having another separate release is nothing to be excited about. As a customer, it adds nothing of value to you.
This is not about the Customer though, both DTG and Pullup Entertainment have stated that the yearly cycle of releasing a newly numbered version of the game brings them the most revenue, much more than the smaller DLC that appear through the year. It also brings in the largest number of new players to the game through the Standard/Deluxe packages, and more recently the free starter offering. DTG is highly focused on profit, with DLC having stringent deadlines set which we have seen multiple times resulting in unfinished content being released, and the strong focus on moving onto the next revenue stream, offering lip service in most cases to fixing older content. DTG has limited competition and it's "Community Managers" should really have the titles of "Marketing Team" because they push out content about new content, then slide into the shadows when issues arise, they engage less and less every year with the Community. They post engagement rarely in fear that they might commit to something that DTG have no interest in pursuing. None of this it new, look at forum posts from years gone by and you will see the exact same cycle, just customers are becoming even more vocal now about bugs as standards continue to drop. Sam and Natalie used to push back accountability for issues, the current "Community" team are nothing more than Marketing Team with a customer friendly name. Unfortunately the people that make the real decisions we never hear from. Matt Peddlesden is as high up the chain as we get, and he does not make the top level decisions, he has influence and makes business decisions, but he doesn't call the shots. I would imagine at times his role can become very frustrating. Having to re-download over 100GB of data every year is a horrible scenario, but its baked into the product now.
I wish it was 100Gb. I don’t even own all the content & im still closer to 300gb than 200. Combined with them not updating the pack logos from TSW4 to 5, last year was the worst transition yet. As usual with DTG, it’s not particularly what they do which annoys me, it’s the sloppy attitude they use to do it.
more like 260+ GB for me and growing (Frankfurt S-Bahn is a guaranteed buy for me)... anyway, if it wasnt for that re-downloading, it wouldnt be such a pain in the tralala... for me it is usually the routes/locos that sell it... and so far, every core release delivered good content... TSW5 routes are all routes I play regularly (same for core routes for 3 and 4, tho arguably the best pack is still Rush Hour / Journeys), so as long as the routes/locos/trains roster for TSW6 is good, I will buy I just hope they keep the graphics core, since my machine isnt getting any younger and I dont have money for upgrades/new machine
I think with all the new countries already it might be smarter to progress on the existing ones instead of sinking extra development time in even more new countries and assets
I don't quite understand what the problem is with having to download everything again. Just go make some coffee, take a shower, or mow the grass while you wait. High-speed internet is abundant these days and even if you don't have fast internet you can leave the console or PC running overnight and surely everything will be there... Note: I am not commenting on content that might break in the new TSW version; that's a seperate issue and a legitimate concern.
The problem is, why should we have to download 100’s of GB’s of content, just to implement 20gb of whatever the new core is, just so DTG can change a number. It’s a pretty sizeable inconvenience in which every year, at least one platform has some sort of content access issue, just for a marketing stunt.
yep, they should probably make sure the basic stuff works, like in German content that AFB, LZB and such stuff works prototypically (like, not every train or loco equipped with AFB allows you to manually override AFB braking) before moving on tho I gotta say the first Dutch route is great... and once they solve the rolling resistance (or sth) issue, it will be almost perfect kinda
It's not just the downloading. Each new version of the game has its own settings and doesn't copy them over from the previous, so you have to go back in and remember what you changed the settings to. And if you're a PC player with addons, having to start from scratch until one's favourite addons are updated for the new game version (or testing old ones that haven't been yet).
Not to mention not everyone has super duper high speed broadband. Despite the kit being in my “basket” we are still waiting for a date for our BT fast fibre to be installed/enabled (which is also blocking me from checking my renewal deal offer). And even when it does arrive, Steam has decided my maximum download speed is between 8 and 9 Mb/s which means around 2 minutes to download 1Gb of data. So that 300Gb of DLC is going to take around 10 hours to download. Bully for those who have got faster access but I really CBA to go through that again this year bearing in mind while Steam is grabbing the data you can’t play the game.
when transitioning to TSW5, I had to start download before setting off to work, and when I got home more than 12hrs later, still had to wait a bit
Every year the same pain of having to download it all again. It's starting to become unsustainable, it's hours we have to spend on it, and time is money. The transition from TSW 4 to 5was also disastrous on PlayStation, they wanted to make it easier but it was worse, TSW 4 and 5 dlc's were duplicated in the content management list, and they also had the cheek to assign the wrong icons, so you didn't know which one was the right one to download. And, by the way, it's still going on, half a year later. More than 100 dlc, it's shameful and unacceptable, I lost hours of my life for them to profit.
To me, it's a minor inconvenience. With me working nights, once I get home, before I go to sleep, I can set it all to download after my first shift. Then, by the time by shifts end and it's time for my days off, it'll all be downloaded and ready to play. Obviously, not the case for everyone, and it is easy to see why some are frustrated, but I've just learned to accept it knowing that I have a way of making it convenient for myself.
The point is, it shouldn't have to be. I also don't particularly want to leave the broadband router and PC switched on for hours burning power just because DTG can't find a more efficient way of transferring our game data. I can't think of any other title that does this.
When i was on PS4 and whit TSW4, i have bought the game at september and finished to download all dlcs at november, now whit PS5 i expect few days to re download all stuffs again, but is still frustrating that took over hours to complete
well... its not their first time that have happened... stares angrily at WCML South which have Rivet Involvement if not they out right made the route. I bet they will pull another lie again and give us a poor quality route.
What we are missing on TSW are.... the double decker EMU! Which is becoming mostly used by European countries. Special note: in the USA, there is a brand new: San Francisco Peninsula corridor with the modern Stadler one! Hopes DTG includes them soon!
I hope DTG fix the blurred textures for TSW6. No point getting Frankfurt S-Bahn if Frankfurt-Fulda has been bugged since release. It will have the same problem. The new Köln-Aachen Timetable and GWE Remaster will likely suffer as well if nothing happens.
I am really hoping that we get to see a return of the preservation crew. Some of the older routes, that I really like(RSN, TR, etc) starting to age and fall behind the newer routes. Other routes, like with Vorarlberg I feel like they have been outright abandoned. The rolling stock available there to this day just feels … pathetic. Given the prices DTG charges, I don’t think this is too much to ask. In all fairness though, I have to admit that the quality of the routes seem to be better than in previous years. I was happy with both S-RO and FFM-FU.
Exactly. We don’t even know if the Caltrain stuff will be officially allowed in TSW6, should that happen in September.
Theoretically they could unbrand the route, till such time that they negotiate a new license, BUT we know that is work that DTG will not want to do, and given that the statement from DTG was very specific as to "current version of the game" I would expect Caltrain DLC to disappear for TSW6 forcing users to play on TSW5 if they wish to play Caltrain content they already own.
