This was my old local route and is the reason I've bought TSW4. Really looking forward to the route being available when it's done.

As someone once said, "A delayed game is good eventually, a rushed game is bad forever"

I have bought TS4 for this, deluxe edition felt best value for money. This route still looks like the show stealer for the whole TSW franchise. Only some of the DB routes give it a run for that title.

I was looking forward to playing this route but I can't justify buying this (update at best) right now, partly because I'm quite miffed that I spent a not inconsiderable sum of money on DLC for TSW3 only for that support to be dropped less than a year later, but mostly because I'm hearing too much about yet another title being released with the same old lack of attention to detail and bugs present, this would be bad enough anyway but DTG have form for this and that's just not acceptable, its no different to an eating establishment being full of bugs and the owners thinking they can make it all go away by just changing the name, again and again. A real shame because for me a pacer is a brilliant train to introduce to the franchise and even though its not a route I know I was cool with that because I only really do uk routes anyway.

I mean, the only "support" being dropped is the core TSW3 code, all of the DLCs are still supported.
I'm just waiting for the individual countries pack to come, because I don't care for Germany or US content.

I'm sure there'll be some sort of TSW4 Blackpool pack, like there was with Birmingham when it launched a month or so after TSW3

Yeah but, create a bugfest, give it a new number and hope that nobody notices, rinse and repeat, ita a kick in the teeth for their fanbase really.

    I mean,
I could reel off any number of games companies that do this. It's not unique to DTG, it's just... life.
Heck, one of the most popular games I play, has issues from day 1... 13 years ago.

I have to give DTG their due credit here as they have very swiftly listened to feedback and improved the 801 sounds which makes it one of the best sounding units in game now. Anyhow not about BPO so I suppose we should get back to JT's masterpiece.

OK fair enough but they don't change the title and pretend it never happened do they?

    Oh of course they do.

Any game that had a 'yearly' release almost always carries over bugs for the previous versions that never gets fixed.
Fifa and cod were notorious for such. CoD was same engine, same bugs, just a new half baked story to distact you

In fact, I believe Fifa was worse, some of the new releases added amost nothing new, just 'retouched' graphics and maybe a new mode "but it had a new number and we like new numbers"

It'll be interesting to see what liveries are included with some of the layers for the period this route is set in. I've got TSW4 and like many, this route and supporting JT as an alternative developer is one of the main reasons for that.

The success of this route will dictate how they proceed and what resources they may be able to use for TSW4.

They aren’t changing liveries for layers, that’s not something that happens.

Okay, I'm really unfamiliar with TSW so it was said from a position of no-knowledge tbf, just hoping we could have maybe some different colours.

No exacts but between 1-2 months. I'd say late October-mid November seems most likely to keep on schedule.

Looking forward to playing this. Now for another project Exmouth - Exeter St David’s - Barnstaple using Chocolate and Cream pacer would be good!

I recently had a discussion about the engines on the class 142 and I suggested it would be difficult to source sound recordings as the only remaining unmodified unit (141108) is inoperable. However I got harsh responses insisting that any preserved 142 would be correct for sound recordings as it is the same as the representation in this DLC, I said that a 1986 example would have Leyland TL11 & SCG whereas all operational Pacers now have Cummins LTA10 & Voith T211r but the responses they suggested they just sound the same anyway. I have experienced an ex National Express Leyland Tiger on a running day before PSVAR that I believe might have had a TL11 (unless it was Gardner example) and that did not sound anything like a Cummins LTA10. I thought I watched a recording of a 142 but I can't find it anymore so maybe I dreamt it.

Can anyone put any light on this or am I just going crazy and both engines do in fact sound the same?

Going from memory alone the gearbox change was a factor in the sound change. I think they had a more different sounds at lower speeds and once in the top gearing they sounded much the same through their career....

You can hear a 142 leaving Wigan in this video. If I am right you shouldn't need to search for it.

I'm sure I remember another video taken on board a 142. It sounded like gear shifts on a first gen unit but with a whine like on a ZF 4HP on an earlier Volvo B10M-50 Citybus.

How has JT managed to get TL11 sounds though since 141108 has not run in a long time?

This was the Tiger I have been on (not my video though), could this coach have been hired for recordings for a 142? It would be more realistic than having Cummins sounds.

Whilst this may be true, the inherent limitations of creators club really put me off. I long for a similar system where child objects, auto numbers and other things can be added to liveries to be proper representation - rather than the one font and selection of fixed vector shapes etc if creators club.

Back to the sound issue, well it’s a long time since I travelled on a Cummins engine set set let alone the Leyland version. However the latter with the semi auto gearbox (a bit like Techtronic on a car) would presumably have run up through the revs as opposed to the Voith where they tended to pull away on higher revs, like a Sprinter.

Not sure a bus engine recording would quite fit, though I do have vague memories of a United Counties VR (think it was 784) despite being Gardner engined sounded like a MetCam DMU!

There is a YouTube video of the original 142 sounds. Very different than the later Cummins engine in terms of noise.

My apologizes if this has been addressed somewhere in the thread, but I didn't see anything on this while I was looking through. Will the reused stock from NTP that's included in this route be any different from the OG versions? Stuff like physics upgrades, or maybe have them done up in different liveries like Large Logo?

No sound or physics upgrades. However, they have mentioned further up in this thread that they are looking at doing a bit of work on the texturing/shading to make the colours match better. And also hopefully the 47 will come with a headlight

I noticed some inaccuracies of your recreation of blackpool pleasure beach.

you appear to have mixed the "grand national" and "nickelodeon streak" (at the time called rollercoaster). in your image you used the track closest to the wall seems to only dip to about the height of the wall. in reality, the grand national does not do this. it dips all the way to ground level. nickelodeon streak/rollercoaster is what you have referenced in this image, leading to a mixing of both rollercoasters. i have put reference images below and i hope this helps with scenery accuracy

it's a small thing but i think scenery accuracy matters, especially for landmarks like this.

for reference, nickelodeon streak is the exact same as "rollercoaster" was in the 1980s, just now painted orange. grand national hasnt changed and is still the same colour

Will 150s from Penzance route be included ?

And will 150/pacer coupling be compatible?

Free Roam mode in TSW4 is an absolute game changer. If you want to run a 150 on this route I’ll bet you will be able to*. I just ran one on SoS :) Can’t comment on the coupling of course, but so far - if it’s physically possible**, you can run any vehicle on any route, it seems.

e.g. I took the WSR 33 out on a run from Basford Hall with a rake of loaded 16T wagons, minus a brake van, got it all up to 65mph and discovered it took a few miles to stop …

    * if you own WCL, of course
** Vectron out of St Ives won’t work :) :)

No they are not compatible, the 150 does not use the correct MU code so will not function with the 142. The 142 will however work with the 158 once a small fix is made to it.

The Class 150 units have BSI couplers which enable them to work in multiple with Class 142.
They cannot work in multiple with Class 165 or Class 166 units due to incompatible wiring arrangements.
Class 142's were frequently seen on my local line, in tandem with Class 150's.

Yes they can work in real life, but in game due to Rivet not using the correct MU system it won't work.

Five technically speaking, with varying livery, engine and gearbox combos.

    142 Provincial
    142 Provincial TL11 + T211r
    142 Provincial LTA10 + T211r
    142 GMPTE

Interesting that it would be a GMPTE livery, seeing as that's Greater Manchester. Is there a possibility that could actually be hinting towards one of the other upcoming UK routes on the roadmap and not this one? A new Manchester route?

I don't think it's hinting at anything else other than GMPTE 142s operated to Blackpool.

Just spawn a 150 in service mode. You may run into some red signals or you may not. It’s so unpredictable, that’s what I love about it.
You could use Scenario planner too if you wanted to flood the route with different trains. I just find spawning a train in service mode quicker. Only on the BML I’ve used scenario planner so far. I polluted the route with all my UK fleet. GWR, 150, 465, Azuma, Javelin etc :)

Yet more in game inaccuracies and shonkiness then. Out of interest has anyone done a mod or reskin, to apply the correct coaching stock crest to the SOS maroon MK1's ?
