And a brilliant improvement that is. Hypothetically if DTG wanted to could this be implemented on other classes, such as the 37s, 45s etc or is it specific to the 47s?

This route seems to be the Mary Poppins bag of TSW!

that does sound interesting to try out, will it be staying or was this not specifically intended ?

would be nice if the 142 could substitute in with the 101 on TVL at some point like that.

edit: is it also a layer currently on WCL (as in extra services) or substitute what the 150 does ?

Every screenshot of this route looks amazing. I can't put into words how excited I am to finally play 80s content that wasn't released for TSW2020. You may argue how much sense the yearly iterations make, but you can't deny that this compared to NTP are miles and miles of difference in pretty much anything.

completely agree about the screenshots but the iterations don’t play anything into it, they’ve got better at doing route scenery since then/Just trains have put some great work on scenery into their first TSW route.

I'm running out of words for how good this route looks, the scenery looks like the best ever produced in tsw, the pacer looks spot on (plus we get three liveries for it!) i mean there's currently nothing but positives to say about this release!

i wanted the ECML for years in tsw, and it's pretty much the only route i drive these days, but i feel that is all about to change once this route is released real soon!

The JustTrains website mentions two liveries for the Mk 2's. From the screenshots I can only see one, what is the second livery?

I'll speak to the website team. Should only say one livery of mk2. The Mk1 BG has two liveries as well, but also features Newspaper branding.,

Im sure people behind the scenes are way ahead of everyone on this, but theres a real opportunity to create an immersive realistic world here. One of the reasons that German content is so attractive due to its substitutions of various traction within the same time period. Sticking with this late 80s timeframe for atleast a couple of DLCs will build on what already looks like a very solid foundation in BPO

Exactly this and I completely agree. As you say, German content is the best example, but it's also why the likes of London Commuter, SEHS, ECW are brilliant too regarding this. So I'm pleased to see this with BPO, even if the era is not my favourite. Thus, overall, so much better than just a random one-train route with zero variety or long-term gameplay that doesn't use any existing content!

Something along the lines of WCML over Shap in the around same era, to give us that electric traction, would be a great complement to this.

Or a nice freight oriented route with plenty of industries and BR Blue class37s and 20s would be welcome.

Something that's both, Crewe to Preston with Fiddlers Ferry PS, Parkside, Bickershaw (all within a few miles of the core route. Fast AC runs and slow freight. We would need an AC loco and some HAAs but everything else more or less exists. JT could reuse the Preston asset and ask DTG if Crewe could be updated. Probably one for the Suggestions section but it's a natural sequel....

Mentioned before and posted in Suggestions… South/West Yorkshire coal and power based around Knottingley in the early 90’s. Class 56’s and Class 60’s thundering through Sudforth Lane day and night.

Agreed, that section of the WCML has the added benefit that it hasn’t already been done in TSC, and it would form a really nice network with the Blackpool route. The only slight annoyance is that due to TSW limitations you wouldn’t be able to drive trains through from one route to the other - so if you worked a Euston - Blackpool between Crewe and Blackpool, you’d have to do it in two halves, switching routes at Preston. That’s not the end of the world, though, and there’d be a loco swap at Preston anyway, so it wouldn’t be so much of an immersion-breaker.

Alan Thomson did it if I remember rightly. I would love to see Crewe to Manchester via Stockport and Manchester Airport.

Crewe to Preston is in the excellent freeware South Lancashire and Cheshire route set in the 1970's and 1980's.

Anyway I digress, certainly the screenshots are whetting my appetite for this route. Looking forward to the preview stream very much.

Fantastic route. The design looks better than we have had In TSW4 before. JTs make excellent and exceptional routes for TSC and they look to have raised the bar for TSW4. Can’t wait to explore the signal boxes and drive the Pacer. Excellent work by Tom and all the JTs team.

Indeed - I wasn’t including freeware as I tend to find it a bit of an interdependency nightmare (although that applies to some of the payware as well) but I have heard South Lancashire & Cheshire is very good. I’ve spent many hours driving Preston - Carlisle and Carlisle - Glasgow on TSC though, and I must admit that would dampen my enthusiasm for them on TSW a little (although I’d still buy them, providing they were set in the tap-changer era!)

I’m not particularly interested in Pacers (I’ll spend most of time on the branches in a 101!), but this looks really well recreated and I’ll certainly be giving it a go.

I think it’s telling that when JustTrains provide a preview of their new unit they focus on the cab and the driving experience. I remember when Rivet did their preview of their new unit on the Edinburgh - Glasgow route they spent ages showing shots of the saloon, passenger view, exterior colour scheme etc and didn’t include the cab at all. It feels as if JustTrains understand that TSW is first and foremost a Driver simulator, and that experience is the first thing you have to get right.

Is that acceleration in the video correct? I’ve no idea but it looks very rapid, more so than I would have expected and faster than other more modern units in the game.

0-39MPH in just over 40 seconds, for a small/extremely light two car train doesn't seem that rapid to me?

It’s faster than the 323 and the 158 in the game when going straight to full power.

It might be prototypical but it just looks fast to me, for any train.

It's not, I just got 40 MPH in 25.63 seconds on the 323. Can try it on the test center. And that's with the 323 weighing more.
In the same time (40 seconds) I got up to 55MPH in the 323.

The 465 gets up to 40mph in 22.33 seconds.

The 158 gets up to 40mph in 41 seconds, and weighs more than the 142.

So the acceleration seems to be acceptable to me?

My bad, I didn’t add it correctly trying to do too many things at once.

It was a rhetorical question anyway. As I said, I don’t know if it’s right or not, it just looks very fast (particularly up to 20mph).

Does seem a bit like a bat out of hell. But then I guess that's what happens when it's basically a thin metal frame and some benches strapped to an engine with wheels glued on lol.

In real life the performance of a 142 is roughly comparable to that of a 158 in this speed range. Given that we know a lot of work has been put into making the 158 performance realistic, it sounds promising that the JT 142 has comparable acceleration. Given what we’ve seen so far regarding their priorities, I suspect that JT have put in some significant effort to ensure its performance is realistic. Of course, we’ll only be able to judge properly once we get to drive it.

I agree, the route looks amazing. It was just my initial thought seeing that vid was ‘that looks rapid!’

The acceleration numbers might be compatible with the 158 but I’d say in that video it looks like it’s going quicker for the same speed. I seem to remember there being another unit in this game where all the speeds etc were correct but it looked like it was going faster than it was. Maybe I’m misremembering.

Hands up, it was me that mislead JetWash there. We were discussing this personally. I said it seemed quick, so he timed it. I misinterpreted something he said and thought it to got 30mph in 13 seconds, ye gods.
I think it just the initial acceleration that is rapid - looking again it seems comparable with a power twin class 101 - if you changed gears really quick! That train seems to take off in 1st gear really quickly, but settles down once you're in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.

Yeah I know what you mean, it might be because their is so much "open" space with the windows. It tends to make things "feel" faster. Like the 465 for me always feels like it's going so much faster than it is.
