   Has anyone managed to get the 47/4s to work in tandem?
   
   no matter what, the rear loco never revs, just idols

   I just googled and the RM forums came up. In that it states the Class 47/4s weren't designed to work in tandem, and hence required a second driver in the second loco. 47/0 and /3 can work in tandem though.
