I disagree. I think it's subjective much like any art piece is...

Blackpool Branches was probably one of the best routes developed in TSW in terms of detail and immersion. Now, to possibly get this on a bigger scale with InterCity running, and being 1980s BR themed, would be an absolute masterpiece for me. I don't change my opinion on that... But, be mindful, I believe that is subjective to the individual, although I'm sure others will agree too. I don't believe on hyping myself or anyone up, I'm confident JT will deliver on the expectations.

But everyone is welcome to their own views.

The sounds in the AP version are incredible. Or rather the sound pack they do. Just listened to it recently and love it. Going to wait for a sale as even though I want it I don't need it right now

How can a route with an authentic loco, set in a time when railway operations were worth watching with a variety of rolling stock, fast running and branch line operations, freight and passenger, a 24 hr timetable get people excited? I would much rather have a 12 mile EMU route with all trains the same except the RHTT featuring the never seen before 66. BR doesn't sell does it?

this is especially exciting since just trains have already done incredibly well with Blackpool Branches, which was their FIRST route

Preston Carlisle is going to show all of us that just trains are now in the swing of it, and are going to show their full potential creating a TSW Product, this is them doing something insanely complicated, with the length, amount of rolling stock, you would never see DTG do

they are going beyond anyone in TSW right now, in terms of how big of a route this is.

Yeah, I mean we've got a proper look at the new route AND the next update for Derail Valley drops on the 14th too. Where to go first?

To be honest, I’m tempering my expectations because I haven’t made the switch to TSW5 yet, because of the reports that RailDriver doesn’t work properly with it (and RailDriver is an essential part of the experience for me).

I’m not missing out on Preston-Carlisle though, so first I’ve got to sit down this weekend, take a deep breath and switch over to TSW5. If that works with my existing routes, I’m ready to start getting excited about this one. If not, I’ve got weeks of messing about trying to get RailDriver working to look forward to, before I buy anything new.

Of course, what I should really have done is switched over weeks ago so that I could be ready, but one of the things I dislike most in life is spending hours trying to make something work which worked fine before someone “improved” it. I was desperately hoping that DTG would give some sort of response to the RailDriver issues, but the issues being raised have been met with complete silence so time is up, and I’m diving in.

    Wish me luck.

Could be either, Birmingham New Street West Tunnel entrance says "No AWS". I can't recall ever seeing similar signs at Preston in TSC at least.

Definition: At through stations where the permitted speed is 30 mph or less and the layout is complex, AWS track equipment need not be provided. Where this occurs, these are called AWS gap areas.

No, I don’t think there’s any gap in the AWS at Preston.

Apart from your issue, this is just generally a sound course of action. I’ve long since left any hype behind. This new route will show if JT can consistently hit a quality level or if BPO was their SPG.

In the lead up to Cyberpunk 2077, I purposely avoided all marketing to not get in on the hype train (pardon the pun). This served me very well as I was amazed by the game when everyone else was complaining and feeling shortchanged (yes, I was happy even before 2.0 and on a base PS4).

It’s always good to approach a product with an open mind and positive expectations but without falling for any doomed-to-disappoint hype, which - to their credit - JT don’t seem to be building. Their marketing seems rather factual with most hype coming from BPO’s quality and the DTG induced draught in both quality and vintage content.

Just reading the blurb on JT's website, the thing that sticks out for me is the incredible amount of playability with all the yard moves etc, (as well the huge route mileage, obviously). Hopefully it doesn't affect performance that much with all that traffic. I'm only missing one piece of DLC (Cornwall) so hopefully I can still do a fair amount of yard work etc. Can't wait for this.

So according to the roadmap, now delayed until 26th November. Hope that doesn't mean DTG have been pushing JT for the release and we end up with the product suffering accordingly.

The JT guys previously said they’d moved it forwards themselves from a previously set internal deadline. Would guess given the stream is still going ahead that the delay is to implement the simplified gen 8 timetables.

Not worried about the delay, I believe Thomas had said this were their original release date anyway. Can't wait until the 26th of November now!

Not necessarily on the topic of WCML OS but I’m guessing JT’s new dlc announcement will be on this route.
This photo was released in the November roadmap released not long ago-
    upload_2024-11-12_16-54-10.png
does anyone know what this could be? Does anyone recognise it from anywhere? They also gave a clue-
“No need to pant with excitement! In the Top Ten, this DLC will Hit That Perfect Beat especially for those with Suspicious Minds as It’s A Kind Of Magic.” But I have no idea what any of this means.

All three songs were top ten hits in '86. I am wondering if this may be a bit of a red herring now, as it seems too obvious.

Disappointed to read on the road map that the TVL 37 will be used, is it not inappropriate for that era? I certainly don't remember seeing that livery or the redesigned front end nose in 1986! I hated seeing it turn up in the BPO route, though sometimes the WCL 37 would sub in which is more appropriate, especially with BR Blue versions I did in livery editor

question is whether you want more traffic for some realism loss or have less traffic by focusing on realism. You can still turn off layers if you don't like it

But we have a more realistic model for that era with the WCL 37. Maybe Rivet didn't give permission for it to be used, don't know, just a shame I will have to turn that layer off.

Hopefully the modders will come to the rescue on this one!

To my knowledge, third party developers are allowed to use DTG stuff no questions asked (within reason) but third party stuff, which the WCL 37 would come under) will require permission from that developer.

It's the headlamp fitted to an 86 in the early 80s before the hi-intensity lamps became standard. Looking at the line above the lamp that's the bottom of the headcode box. So my moneys on it being a Class 86 DLC.

37/0s of which we have none for TSW in blue were the norm for the era, first examples of refurbished 37s were 37/4s of which we have none in TSW again which were delivered in Large Logo blue.

Though as discussed previously these were rarely seen north of Crewe let alone Preston. Though still definitely a Day One purchase for me!

If you mean the brick one next to the 47, no; it appears to have a flat roof.

BR Blue Class 37 needs to be in the game soon. Could be a good DLC for a NTP remaster too (along with Class 25 and Class 110 DMU). JT have said they've a loco / gameplay packs plan to tie into their releases (was it said earlier in this thread?). If they continue south and get to Crewe, go to Manchester Picc or Birmingham then a Class 304 would have be be made.

The first 37/5 I saw was 37698 at Easter 1986. They wore the original Railfreight Grey livery as seen on the West Cornwall 37.

I’m copying my response from the discord, because I can’t be asked to type it all in here

Well, Tom, it’s been really great to see these blogposts, and how you’ve put together this route. Piece by piece, from the day it got announced last year, to the final product.

I believe JT has gone off to a flying start with Blackpool, absolutely breaking records, and now with this route, have shown their full potential by doing a 100 mile route, something that no other dev in TSW would try.

I see on the forums, you’ve handled constructive feedback, in an amazing way, and reassured the community

Me, and I’m sure a lot of other members, have really enjoyed the developmental process of this route. It has been really interesting seeing how much you’ve added, how much variety, and the unmatched detail you put into your routes

I will be watching you Tommorow, for the preview stream, and a lot of others will.

    See you then

Those MK3s are spot on. The buffet takes me back to working NL65 and EC64 - although they were HST ex-EMT I’m still familiar enough with the MK3s to say that Just Trains have absolutely nailed them.

Also wasn’t expecting Intercity Executive liveried MK3s either, I must have missed that part. Oh man am I running a full Intercity consist on the ECML.

They even look appropriately grubby, not the light dusting of brake dust other stock gets. JT know how to weather stock!

This really is excellent, from what I am seeing and reading the 87 is near enough an expert loco in itself. Bloody brilliant stuff here JT, look forward to seeing, and hearing, more tomorrow.

What did make me laugh in the roadmap was the small error listing the Class 87, as a 87/2, I'm sure that was the proposed TOPS number for the Class 90s!

Engine room as well? Flipping hell, I feel like I’m being spoiled between the 87, 86, and the TSG E94. Had to wait years for any tap changer to come to TSW and now they’re all coming together :D
