    Ah, excellent.

My only (slight) concern is that the 87 doesn't sound like the default in TSC with the fan just whirring continuously, but per the AP mod where the fan falls away so you can hear the traction motor pitch increase.

This just keeps getting better and better! :D
I'm just amazed by how detailed the scenery looks, especially for a 90 mile route. The atmosphere seems to be on point once again.

Alongside the 87?! If so that would be great!! Where'd you find that information though?

Apologies, I stand corrected. I would think the alcohol could slightly amplify the sensations though.

Easier than trying to drink a flask of Ovaltine on a class 142. That will always end in third degree burns and a trip to hospital.

Undoubtedly! I’m sure they could have fixed the nausea issue by reducing the tilt if they’d been given time, but in the end patience and money ran out and it was left to others to take the lessons and pick up the tilting train mantle.

Super hyped for this. I live in Oxenholme and use the mainline twice a week and the Windermere branch daily. Know it all like the back of my hand. Hope it comes sooner rather than later.
I'm particularly interested in what the Lune Gorge will look like. The mountains there are high and close! And of course, Lowgill viaduct peeling off on the old Ingleton branch.

We should be able to run pacers to Oxenholme for the Windermere branch though. I'm not sure what ran the branch in those days.
    Can not wait.
I understand why Windermere was not added. 1tph and just a long siding but I was secretly hoping. Still that doesnt detract from what will hopefully be the best route to the come to the game full stop.

Dtg were able to record a real apt for tsc so if the recordings are still good and usuable, they could still use it

I’m not sure sufficient recognition is being given to the magnitude of what’s just happened. OldVern’s got his restaurant car!!!

A campaign longer than time itself has finally borne fruit!

I’m frankly surprised they didn’t lead on this in last night’s stream - surely the biggest TSW5 announcement so far.

On the roadmap article DtG posted under the bit for the Preston to Carlisle route it says “Development has also started on our first loco add-on, which itself will be for WCML and add even more highly anticipated variety.”

If it’s an APT then they might as well just take my money now.

Can't help but notice also mentioned, five liveries for the Class 47. BPO only had three, so I wonder what they might be? Feels natural that at least one will be Railfreight grey...

Well, here’s a picture of provincial and GM liveried 142s at Windermere in 1987, so it seems they did go there in roughly the right era. Of course, even though the branch isn’t included in the route, the 142s must have got there from their maintenance depots further south, so perhaps we’ll see them on some Preston to Oxenholme runs.

Me too, but I'd heard that the swallow livery was bought by one of the rail tour operators, so isn't in the "general DfT livery pool" any more. Apparently that's why the 125 Group haven't painted any of their restored HSTs in it, and stopped making any new swallow themed merch.

I have no idea if this means the branding would never be available again until the rail tour operator release it or just cost extra money (possibly with side negotiations with the rail tour operator), but it makes sense that people might play safe and stick with Executive livery or jump to post-privatisation liveries?

I think I saw somewhere reference to two versions of a Scotrail livery?

edit: Wilbnil beat me to it.

It would be a huge shame if the operator to gatekeep the swallow livery like that - a livery that means so much to so many of us should be made available in as many places as possible.

I think this is the actual Intercity named and themed railtour company that operates on the WCML. I've never travelled with them but I remember hearing a while ago that they actually ran regular timetabled services for a while, and I think they have the Swallow livery on a 90+DVT set.

I’m afraid an APT would really just be a fleeting novelty, however a class 86 would be the perfect partner for the 87 as they were even more numerous if I recall.

Built in 1965-6, still hauling heavy freightliner trains in 2021 (I used to see them on the GEML most days) - 55 years of front-line service hauling everything from crack expresses to heavy freights. Fantastic machines.

An 86 pack spanning several eras would probably add the most to TSW.

    * Services on Preston - Carlisle
    * Services on WCML South
    * Services on GOBLIN
    * AI on Blackpool, Cathcart, Bakerloo, Glossop, Cross-City
    * Future potential for many routes

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why isn't JT's class 142 making up playable services? I assume the included class 101 is in place of that, and i'm not clued up on what is and isn't era appropriate but personally would have really liked to see the class 142 operate on morecambe services

As mentioned earlier I think at the time the north Lancs branches were still operated by heritage Class 108 DMU's, maybe the Class 105 Cravens if still about. So the 101 is the closest we have to those without getting an all new DMU.

It does operate on the Morecambe branch, probably occasionally substituting in for the 101 (think of it as the reverse of the 101 subbing in for the Pacer on BPO).

Personally would be sold more on the APT depending on how much timetable variety is added to the route but I will take an 86

ahh fair enough good to know, i'll be the first to admit i know very little about this route set in this particular time period, i just thought it would be a shame if the class 142 wasn't included with this release.. the class 142 was my favourite part of blackpool branches and having it included in wcml north would definitely make me more likely to buy it!

If included in the timetable, outside chance of Class 31 on short Regional Railways formations covering Preston to Carnforth - Furness Portal and vv on Barrow services, of which some were loco hauled during this period.

If you have Blackpool, it should layer on anyway, so doesn't matter if it is included with the Shap package or not. I do agree it is a great unit.

While filmed in the over the past few months, Ben Elias on Youtube has some incredible cab views from the NMT on this stretch of line as well, 100% recommend watching those.

The Cravens units in use on the Blackpool-Colne services were Class 113 - externally similar, but with RR engines and hydraulic transmission. My nearest station was Pleasington when I was a schoolboy spotter :)

I am really extremely excited about this route. We know that Tom Harrison and the team at Just Trains will be producing another absolutely stunning route. Visit the Just Trains website and read about their development about this route and view the many pictures, it sounds and looks absolutely amazing. It will be another fantastic route by Just Trains with so much attention to detail.

    Looking forward to this one.
Having been based at Carnforth and Kingmoor, it'll be interesting to see how well JT captures the essence of the route.

Some nice scenarios in there for the Steam performance challengers too, Oxenholme station stop to Shap Summit, Carnforth to Tebay Loop non stoppers etc etc

Another new loco eh? I wouldn't especially care for an 86. The 87s are faster and better looking so an 86 wouldn't have much wow factor as a separate add on, however it seems people want one just because of how many there were so who am I to judge?

An APT would be seriously amazing, but not as amazing as a Stanier Pacific in my opinion. Imagine thrashing a crimson Duchess up Shap on a railtour... Perfection.

Speaking of railtours, surely there should be a service or two for the Jubilee? They have just as much association with this line as any other route they've appeared on, and it would be a fantastic challenge driving it up Shap.

Again, my point is not that they couldn’t make it, they made peak forest and as far as that goes it’s truly pulling the cat out of the hat so I know they could make it, but the question goes, is it worth it to put a lot of work in a full unit, not a loco where you just have to detail one consist, but an entire unit, detailing everything and getting perfect audio and perfecting physics and whatnot, just to make a unit which most probably have no interest in and that has no real bearing on the service timetable? Call me crazy, but I’d rather have something more significant with the time period that could add variety of timetabled services as well as scenario work, and that I wouldn’t run out of stuff to do with. If a few people want it cool, but I just think it’s a waste to make a unit like this when we already have so many other things that are on recommend, like the 50, 55, 56, 86 etc.

Thought I'd share this from my exploration of such things. This is a historical map, dated some time before this new route is set as the map was reportedly surveyed in 1967 and published in 1973, so I'm not 100% on how much of this map's contents would have still been there 20 years on. I imagine however it would certainly be more than is there today, and there is still a lot there today.

So of course this is Kingmoor yards. The historical map on the left isn't complete, the top few tiles are missing so I've left in a side-by-side of the same position in the present day to fill in the gaps. The amount of tracks here, especially in the past, is insane. And you just know JT will make it absolutely packed.

JT are perhaps the main reason I will be getting TSW 5 as their content has always been good from TS classic.

Kingmoor is just massive! I wonder if the hump was still operational at the time the route is set?

Rather than a 86 or APT how a about a Class 56 and would also work with one of Skyhooks new cargo packs?

Agree on this one! But i would prefere a 86 over an Apt since the 86 can be used on more routes.

Reminds me of colwick in the nottingham area, tracks as far you can see with the eye.
