    I understand that older DLC locos don't show up unless you also have their home route installed, whereas newer ones don't have this problem (e.g I can use the Flixtrain Vectron on Koln-Aachen without Frankfurt Fulda, or the 700 on Medway and East Coastway without Southeastern High Speed), but I just wanted to clarify my understanding of when this unlinking happened;

    As I understand it happened with the change to TSW 3;
    • DLC locos released during TSW 2 or earlier still need their "home route"
    • DLC locos released after TSW 3 will work regardless.
    Is this correct?

    AFAIK, yes, this is correct
    as of TSW3, locos are no longer tied to its "home routes"
    however, the game still "sees" a certain route as the primary one for that loco, though this is artificial, so to speak

    Correct

    To expand on that a little, it was the introduction of the Training Center which allowed loco DLCs to be bound in the back end to the TC and not a route. A loco will still have a route they are "soft bound" to ie where the scenarios are for it usually

    To DTG - I understand it's a secondary feature which you can't spend a lot of developer time on, but as with many other players, I feel layers have not been implemented very well over all, especially with regards to the UI. The UI should clearly indicate which DLC one needs to get the layer. That this is "not possible" or "too complicated" doesn't sit right with me. If it needs to draw on a separate game-wide database of layer dependencies available in-game, so be it - implement that please. Trying to deduce it from a convoluted google doc (that uses different names yet for everything) is not reasonable to me.
