I really love it. I do a lot of texture work for racing cars mods using Photoshop, but it’s an absolute miracle for me how you guys can make such great stuff by using this crappy editor…
Thanks again! I also often have to rely on Photoshop for work. I think it's difficult to compare PS and the LD editor directly. In PS you can load all the images you need and then edit them or even paint something new with a graphics tablet. Instead, in the LD editor you have to piece everything together from preset shapes. After all, everything here is based on scalable vector graphics. I think in the end it's just a matter of practice. What really slowed me down last year was the UI change from TSW3 to TSW4. You get used to the button workflow on the controller and then you're completely thrown off track. Hopefully they won't change again, but UI designers are there to tinker with UIs...
I would be very interested to see how this works, how f.e. a custom DB logo is made from scratch without havin the possibility to use fonts or scans.
As a TSW console player, it always annoyed me that so much cheating and mods can only be done on the PC. Having real logo packs or typical markings as templates in the LD can save so much time and effort. You can also see that realistic liveries with complete markings are the most downloaded in CC. But it's not for nothing that DTG only provides the logos and markings that are currently available, as you always need a license release and legal protection. The DB logo is a bit of a special case. The DB allows it to be used freely for CC, but only if you built it yourself. This probably has something to do with the fact that they have developed their own font that only the company or advertising companies commissioned by the DB can use it. I've just created a small tutorial graphic, it shouldn't be too difficult to replicate.
Did a couple of Dutch 47/3s this week for those Summer Saturday seaside specials. 47332 & 47372 both modelled on photos of the real locos in the 80s/90s. Tried to create a little red Bescot Saddle depot sticker on 332 as per the real loco.
A third Dutch 47 for the collection...... 47346 as it was when based at Immingham depot with depot plaques fitted. Now on Creators Club.
I've tried to create a couple of liveries for the BR 103. My first attempts using the livery designer. Maybe someone likes them? In deapth they are: 103 101-2 in Orent Red DB livery with an old Bundesbahn logo completely made from scratch. https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/157101 103 190-5 in Orient Red but with a custom made DBAG logo https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/156625 103 137-6 in beige/red but with a red frame instead of the usual black one, wearing a hand made DBAG logo, too https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/156920
A new WIP at the moment. I thought I'd do another Tinsley loco (I'm from Sheffield so it was my local depot and I visited there most weeks as part of my job as I work on the railway) but this time something a little bit different. Back at the end of 1997 with the depot shortly to close for good in March 1998 and all loco's transferred away to other depots the staff decided upon a new unofficial name for loco 47362. The name they chose was "R.I.P. Tinsley T.M.D. 1965 - 1998" carried over three separate painted plates. The name was applied to one side of the loco but before they could be added to the other side the acting foreman saw it and wasn't too impressed and the staff were told to not apply it to the other side and to paint over the name that had already been applied. This was done and the loco left the depot with the name painted over on the one side it had been carried on and so the name was never actually seen in public. I've decided to do two versions of the loco one as it actually left the depot with painted over patches on just one side of the loco and the other a "what if" version with the name applied to both sides of the loco.
Just another creation from me: 218 146-9 in my favourite livery - orange/grey CityBahn with the DBAG logo https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/159872 On its route from Hagen HBF to Finnentrop (And yes, I’m aware that this livery from the 1990s doesn’t fit the era of the BR 218 used in the game. But maybe there are other fans of this livery who doesn’t care.)
A little bit more progress today on the latest Tinsley reskins..... I'm trying to make the one based on reality (The one with the painted over name on one side) look faded and more worn with the fictional version with the names painted on both sides looking a little bit fresher. I'm looking at finishing them next week.
A couple from Lübeck: 218 323-4 in ocean blue/ beige https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/160986 218 328-3 in oriental red https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/161080 This will be my last creations, except if DTG will manage to fix the broken livery designer template for the 110.3. Hope you like both of them and have fun.
I've finished the two versions of 47362. As previously mentioned I've done one of how the loco actually left the depot in faded RfD livery with marks, staining and damage around the body with the unofficial name painted over on the one side it had been applied to after the depot management instructed staff not to let the loco leave the depot with it visible. I've then done the "What If" version in a slightly better looked after version of RfD and with the "R.I.P. TINSLEY T.M.D. 1965-1998" name applied over the three black nameplates that were applied and then painted over. I've applied the plated to both sides as they were intended and have used the only photo ever taken of the actual plates before they were painted over which was taken by the staff applying them. Both versions are available on Creators Club.......
I've not really done a lot of modern / current reskins but thought I'd maybe start doing the odd one or two. Anyway here's the East Coast Mainline 66 reskinned as 66654 one of the newly re-geared class 66/6s in the current DB Cargo livery. I've used photos of the real loco to get as close as i can to the real thing but there are obviously some slight differences to the TSW4 model so it's about as near as it can be. I believe this sub-class are also limited to 65mph rather than the usual 75mph but it's up to you guys if you actually keep to that when using it. Now on Creators Club....... https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/162869
Derek, your boxcars repaint of old companies are really amazing! Congratulations! Could you please, be so kind to also made some of current companies? I will really appreciated it! PS: I believe other forum members too! Regards
Current WIP to follow up on the DBC 66/6 I did last week. Never been a fan of how nameplates sit on the 66 model with them having the corrugated sides and it distorting the plates but we can't have everything. I've managed to get all the text on the small plate (The poem "For The Fallen") although it's not really readable when scaled down to the correct size but I know it's all on there. Still more to do on this one so it'll probably be something I keep coming back to after the summer holidays.
I looked maybe 5 minutes at the creator in TSW2,... Now after so much fun driving all the trains I thought maybe look at it again and take some time to get used to the UI. Conclusion after 3 days "You need to have a lot of patience,..." Decided to go with a set of 5 and added 66150 as the final one of the collection. Some more tinkering to do on them all to get them looking individual.... Like the peeling yellow paint below the driver's window on 66150 (Detail taken from photo of the real loco).
All five of the DB Cargo 66s now completed and up on Creators Club...... Now to move on to a new collection of five......
Might as well showcase my best (and favourite to make) liveries this year, take your pick: 3rd: 2nd: 1st:
I've made a start on my next batch of 66s..... Moved over to GBRf this time and started with these two. I'll move on to the third one in the next post.....
So being Sheffield born & bred I simply had to include this one in my GBRf collection. Still not completely finished but already at well over 1,000 layers (Each of the NWT logos takes up 120-odd layers and there are six of them around the loco!!!) The lettering on the logos was a challenge being a mix of BR standard font and shapes.
I finished my GBRf class 66 collection this week. The DBC collection contained five locos but this GBRf set has seven. I went with two in standard GBRf livery (One named and one un-named), two in GBRf semi-circle livery (Again one named and one un-named) and then three in special liveries (NWT, Beacon and plain grey). There are slight differences between them all (Black headlights, orange headlights, different size logos & lettering, different safety signage and weathering) I'm really happy with how they have all came out and apologies now for the photo dump of the collection........ Standard GBRf livery.....
It’s been a while I haven’t posted on this thread. Here’s my attempt on the Class 390 in Virgin livery, number 390 138 “City of London”. I tried to be the most realistic as possible with many details replicated, sadly on the black parts on each front it’s impossible to place any layers, hence why I couldn’t put the thin orange line at the top.
