i’m not sure dtg can justify this being worth anyone’s time. however long it’s taken to make this, that time could’ve been spent on something that will sell like mad, perhaps a 222

 

The worst announcement in this games history, and we have had elf express or whatever it was called, TSW4 and 5 being paid upgrades, the DB BR 420 still not being out, and the console ports and everything else bad and yet this still takes the cake as being the worst announcements

 

As expected it hasn't gone down well I was hoping it would be some new freight locos or even a new route but Thomas the tank dear me ‍♂️

 

So time has been spent on this than actually fixing the game?

Players: we need another diesel locomotive, we are fed up with the 9000 versions of the class 66.

DTG: here is a story led childrens dlc that will have zero return gameplay.

 

Imagine if apple hyped up a brand new "announcement" for 3 weeks, and it turned out to be a new colour of iPhone? This is what DTG has given us today.

 

If I had 100 guesses, I would not have thought Thomas would be the reveal today...

Thomas is where it all began for so many rail fans, so this could be nice and nostalgic; it just seems like a very odd move.

Does this mean steam development is back? Has steam physics been improved? Honestly, this is what I am most interested in about this reveal; perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for Steam fans in TSW...

 

Even steve jobs would be ashamed!

 

Let's not forget, DTG are a business. They don't care about what certain players want, rather looking at the suggestions just to determine what a potential new markets can be gained. It's a very sad reality and only will appeal to a niche market.

 

So after a wait for random events, more operational realism, an epic route or loco DLC, a game engine update, more features. Instead this. Really?

I held off buying any DLC in the sale based on what the big announcement was. Safe to say Simrail looking tempting now.

 

Many of us have given this company thousands over the years through TSW yearly releases and broken DLC and this is how the repay us. Not by fixing the multiple problems in the game, but by releasing a "loco" addon that is geared towards toddlers. Most kids that age won't even know what TSW is! I have never seen this much backlash in any announcement.

I mean, this is something all train enthusiasts know, it is very Christmassy. As opposed to a route or train reveal which would be one country only.

And the theme song is a banger, the original and the Notorious B.I.G. cover version

 

I forgot about the DB BR 420. They definitely announced that train way too early

The track record of DTG's PR department was already questionable, but now they are completely derailed.

 

I've took a look on the TSC discord and there are so many people over there that are not happy about this announcement so I think it's safe to say that this was definitely not received well

 

I’ll be honest, I was initially excited to see Thomas & Friends, but then when they said it’s just Thomas and Diesel on the WSR I was like, nah.

Would have been kinda cool to have had the Island of Sodor and all the ‘Friends’ over time, but that’s not what we’re getting

Not sure why there's so much "disappointment." I'm actually impressed. I figured you wanted to do this all along, but didn't figure you'd be able to get the licensing. I'm guessing Hogwarts Express and Disney Railroad are coming too if possible?
I get that much of the fan base is... older... but to be fair TSW skews younger as it is focusing on consoles, and this is how you get new long term customers.
Not only from the "normies" who just know Thomas from the telly, but think of all the people who have played TSW and now have kids who can then introduce their kids to it a bit easier. (I'm imagining simplified controls and scenarios for youngsters)

Not much. Still dissapointed. And surprised, but not in a good way.

 

There is currently £1,062 worth of DLC on the steam store, and thats with a sale going on. Not to mention that we have had 5 games now costing £25+ each, so if you brought every game and DLC right now, you would be giving this company almost £1200! And out of sales that figure is probably close to £1500! And that is before we consider the other games that DTG have published and before we go down the Train Simulator Classic rabbit hole. This is a company that is, in some ways, worse than EA with DLC, and this is what we get: A DLC aimed at an age that shouldnt even have consoles or whatever else you can play this game on these days. This is the type of content I would expect on Roblox or Minecraft, a game actually played by young kids, not a game advertising itself as a realistic train simulator. If we are getting fictional routes/locos, then maybe it should be done by a 3rd party instead of DTG, then we could get heavily requested DLC like a Cl*ss 91 or a frieghter other than the Cl*ss 66! Enough is enough!

 

I thought someone wrote really "Thomas the tank engine" in the forum but only as a joke... And this is real instead!

This announcement make me smile because it's absurd they put time on this but It's also understandable the intention to reach also the youngest kid with this DLC....

Extremely disappointing end to this event which is a shame because I feel the event had been reasonably good. As much as most of the content was already "revealed" in previous roadmaps I thought it was a great idea to dedicate a day to each item and get some discussion going.

This being the big announcement is laughable to be honest and I'm stunned that DTG felt that this warranted the build up it got when it should have been obvious that it would fall flat among the audience on this forum. Thomas & Friends absolutely holds a significance for many enthusiasts, but ultimately there are so so many other things that this time and money could and should have been spent on that would have bought some serious goodwill with the fanbase that takes the time to visit these forums and directly engage with DTG.

There was always a degree of sceptism on this forum around DTG's ability to deliver something truly exciting given past experiences, but this is so far away from being exciting that I can't imagine any attempt to hype something in future is going to succeed as that pre-existing scepticism has just been validated.

 

Yep, the people in the TSC discord are, lets just say, annoyed, with this announcement. I am yet to see a single person saying they are happy with this. We even had someone from the thomas the tank engine fandom calling this a bad release earlier in the thread! When the people that are fans of the show you are adding to your game are p*ssed, you know you screwed up.

 

So when’s the real reveal?

 

Honestly I would have been less disappointed if it was a livery pack or TSW 6 as many were theorizing.

I think announcing the class 153 was coming as part of the Cardiff network route would have served as a better announcement.

 

Although I can understand the disappointment, it is not exactly what I expected either, but....
I actually am looking forward to this. Last week I've just finished Holiday Express with my 3 year old son. And I must say what a joy it was playing it together with him. With that in mind, I really look forward sharing the silliness with him again with this Thomas & Friends DLC.
Like phileasfogg#2329 said, Thomas the Tank engine is a place where for a lot of us it all started and I'm no exception to this.

But the fact I get to share a Train Sim moment before taking my son to bed, and then continue on with 'real sim'-ing has me quite excited.

However, I can understand the disappointment if you don't have kids to share this with, or have no nostalgia with Thomas the Tank Engine.

 

You know you screwed up when someone who is a fan of thomas is not happy with this. I actually hope this is a sick joke and the real announcement is coming later.

All it needed, to really compound it, was to say the Route will be developed and maintained by Rivet!

 

but tsw is a SIMULATOR (or at least it says it is)
You don't see a toy plane in flight simulator and why? because it is a SIMULATOR and every simulator must be serious and based on reality, honestly I would prefer a fictional loco/emu dlc than this

 

I think, you have made the mistake of putting the words "Rivet" and "Maintaining" in the same sentence.... Given how fried your brain probably is after this announcement from DTG we will let it pass
