Ah, another well crafted and carefully beta tested route then! Haven’t watched the stream but the fallout isn’t surprising. Roll on a couple of weeks and JT’s highly anticipated route!

The comments are tongue in cheek, of course they’re spotted, they’re super obvious issues.

Things like this get highlighted because they stick out like a sorethumb & are easily identifiable. They shouldn’t be getting into release builds & people should absolutely be making noise about it being unacceptable.

Glad to read that. Beginning to think I was a lone voice. Wonder what other issues the route has that weren't evident or concealed on the stream. Ah well another one where the paying beta testers can evaluate and flag for a deep sale next year.

I agree that the issue with the railroad crossings is getting quite old now. And it seems to be especially problematic on US routes recently?

Another issue I noticed is that the first station after Boston South was completely dark. It was daytime, but as the station is halfway underground, it should be lit. The train pulled into a completely pitch black platform.

Also the headlights on the locomotives were ridiculously bright. They were so bright that at one point Matt found even the dimmed lights too much and completely turned them off during a night run. That is NOT how you make bright US headlights!

In overall the route didn't look bad. I liked the scenery, stations looked nice, sounds were okay.
But I am hoping for some fixes to the issues noticed during the stream.

Honestly I didn’t watch so I wasn’t planning on jumping in, I made some comments on the first few screenshots & left it at that.

I just find it ridiculous that people try to shut down complaints about really obvious problems. Back in TSW3 Matt had made a huge song & dance out of the improvements made to cars & level crossings. Since then the state of road traffic has only gotten worse & every other route seems to have an issue with level crossings.

The bigger problem here though is there is obviously less time being spent on this, which no doubt people will argue as not being an important issue, but in the next couple of years when DTG implement more gimmicks & want to spend the same amount of time on a route, what will they deem ‘unimportant’ then?

There’s been a solid pattern forming over the last year or so, that the current development timescales are untenable. As TSW gets bigger and encompasses more features, the time issue is only going to compound & overall quality is going to decrease.

TSW5 itself wasn’t ready for release, I find it incredibly disappointing that we’re even discussing the issues with a new DLC, when the core is in the state that it is.

Didn't watch the stream either, I rarely do these days.

But I'm very disappointed that these issues are rearing their heads once again. What is beta testing/QA for if not to catch this nonsense? It makes you wonder what DTG have been doing during the extra 2 weeks that they took " to ensure the route is as polished as possible. "

I'll have to revise my initial decision to buy this route on release at full price.

    Shame.

Morning folks! We answered what questions we could on stream last night. Sometimes they'll need someone that isn't me or Matt to answer them - so we'll be posting answers when we have them. We're having a super busy week this week, but I'll do my best to get answers written up soon. :)

Why is the font on the station signs different from the real Helvetica Neue Bold font? is that font copyrighted?

I mean for something like the level crossings, if the car stoppers aren’t working, which may be a core issue, as a temporary measure leave the barriers and lights functional but just place static vehicles either side and disable car spawnets. It might not be as pretty as moving vehicles but it avoids the clueless and incompetent display of vehicles crossing the path of oncoming trains.

Sobering to note it is 20 years today since the Ufton crossing tragedy in the UK when a person parked his car on the crossing to commit suicide, derailing the HST costing the life of the train driver and several passengers in the process. I know it’s a slightly different thing, but it’s appalling that DTG seem totally complacent about the matter, just look at the lack of action regarding passenger spawners putting people smack bang in the middle of the track at stations.

And you have the warning message about what a dangerous place the railway is whenever you launch the game (is it still there ?).

And, Lord knows, there are enough accidents at grade crossings here in the US to sober anyone's thoughts.

Hello! We've got the answers to most of the questions here. If there isn't answer, it just means that we haven't been able to ask the appropriate person about it yet. I didn't want to make anyone wait to long, so these are the ones I have for now. :)

Please keep any discussions and feedback in the article discussion section for MBTA, as this thread will be being closed.

    -

Why has there been no pre-order discount?

This time around, we decided not to offer a preorder discount. It varies, and while some releases include a discount, this one didn’t - but we always appreciate the feedback!

What unique features or significant highlights does this route offer that differentiate it from existing US commuter routes, particularly the Boston Sprinter?
MBTA offers a new route, including authentic recreations like South Station and North Station, a new train model, a previous model with updated horn and bell sounds, specific scenarios and guard mode.

Why does the route only extend to Worcester instead of Springfield, as seen in the TSC version?
It’s the Boston to Worcester line which is the complete line in real life.

Why is there no Weekend timetable like there was in San Bernadino?
The weekend timetable was a bonus in San Bernadino, we weren’t able to do that this time, this timetable is also quite complex with a lot of the train routing.

Why aren't we getting the newer order of Rotem CTC-5/BTC-4D cars along with the older order?
We surveyed one type which is represented that in the game.

Are the cars always going to be randomized? Or can we pick just full bilevel and full single level and a mix?
Timetable will always be randomised cars, but you can still choose in formation designer and freeroam.

Will there be automated announcements on-board the MBTA train?
    No automated announcements.

Did you make training modules for the HSP and rotem?
Yes; for HSP46, rotem, F40, single deck cab car, ATC and standard route intro for MBTA.

Can you use the HSP on NY-Trenton?

Via freeroam, but it isn’t part of the timetable.

Do these trains layer onto Boston Sprinter?
No current plans for this. We’ll have a look at it, but can’t make any promises for porting these on to the other timetable.

    Will there be express services?
There’s a lot of services, but on different times of day the service patterns change. There’s several stations on one track, so they’re unable to run a balanced service. You have to run on the wrong track and causes conflict for services. In the evening, the Westbound train will run express services, but they’ll do it on the wrong track.

Will AI trains use their bells and horns?

No bells and horns for AI trains.

When you’re picking the cab car, is the loco random?

    Yes.

    Does this have suspension physics?

Yes. All of the stock coming with MBTA has suspension. Any layering won’t have suspension unless it has had it previously.

Are the passenger doors selective, i.e. any door that is not at the platform won’t open?

They determine whether to do high or low doors, but they don’t have anything that will open or close based on whether there’s a platform there or not.

What freight engines are in this route?
No freight locos in this route, but there’s a guide for what routes you'd need for freight in the deep dive article.

Where were the horn sounds recorded?

Boston depot, just south of Boston North Station. There were two non-revenue runs done on Boston to Worcester. But every static recording was done at the depot.

On conductor mode, are you able to open just one of the doors so that it’s more realistic?
Yes, it has local door control.
