I agree there needs to be an option to turn this music off as when not playing it in beginner mode and you need to respond to AWS and DVD noises that you can not hear due to the London philharmonic orchestra having a party with no volume control annoying.

Only experienced this myself this week. The scenario promised a clear run but I was getting double yellows and couldn't hear the AWS over the music. It's lovely but a bit loud!

I have to agree. The music is so obnoxiously loud that I just turn the audio right off and listen to podcasts while I'm driving. It's not like I can hear anything over it anyways, even with my headset on I can just barely hear the horn on any train so what's the point in having my audio on at all?

If a setting isn't available in the game, it still may be possible to tune it down or turn it off from within settings files, but likely only on PC. There's available MusicSoundVolume in GameUserSettings.ini that can be changed, at least in TSW3 (I don't have TSW4, so I can't tell if it changes the music volume in the scenarios or only in menu).

As for my preferences, in games where there's little of or low quality ambient sounds, I generally set music to 10%-15% volume, so it isn't very disturbing during gameplay, but still can be heard when no SFX are playing at the same time. When there's plenty of ambience present and no need to pay attention for start of "battle music", I turn off the music completely.

This is just about two scenarios, right, the Azuma and the Scotsman one, that you're probably be playing once in a lifetime... I'd say scenarios are allowing creative freedom for the designer, and the effect is wanted.

As long as it only appears in scenarios, which are there to add a different than your everyday timetable service experience, I'm ok with it.

I've never played the scenarios in question as I don't own the game, but other than the mixing I don't really see the problem if the scenario plays a small piece of music when something cool happens. It could work really well in scenarios at iconic locations, like a famous bridge or important station.

    if done properly yes
but on the movie scenario on Vorarlberg the volume is way to loud
the music volume should be at least 70% less

This is such a simple fix I'm surprised it hasn't been included. Can't we have either a toggle or volume slider to turn it off if we want to?
I don't like music while I'm playing the game because
    * it breaks my concentration and the immersion
    * really important - I cannot hear the safety alarms over it. I've tried gritting my teeth to finish the ECML "testing" scenario for example but haven't managed it yet without having the emergency brake applied.
    * there's no way of telling which scenarios have music in them, so I don't want to play any of them in case I waste 10 minutes before the music kicks in.

Please DTG, let those of us who don't want in-game music turn it off.

    Please.

When driving a yawnfest electric at 100mph, you can't beat some cheesy orchestral synth music at ear bleeding volume :D

The music is well done and great for a movie, but just not when trying to learn a new locomotive. I don't play that scenerio much because I can't turn down the music or just turn it off. You already have a volume slider for the Menu Music, so I would think it would be a very simple change to play the music through the Menu Music channel... please?

I found the music to be adequate for the 100 mph Flying Scotsman run. On the Azuma, it was annoying (but only lasted 2 mins or so). No big deal though.

Hilarious that this is still a thing after all this time, as I discovered today.

Thought it was a glitch with the menu at first, then realized it was in-game sound. I thought, "Oh yeah, this is kind of annoying, but not too bad", only for the orchestra to start BLARING, almost to the point of deafening (and my general volume was at 50%), and without even realizing it, I didn't acknowledge AWS in time because I couldn't hear the freakin alarm going off, throwing me into an emergency brake. The music kept going, so I followed what someone else said and saved and reloaded, but at then I couldn't get the train to release the brakes, so I just gave up and alt+F4.

Very nice Dovetail, if you're looking for ways to get people to abruptly stop playing your game, this is it.

If dovetail were going to add music in the scenarios, did anyone ever think that perhaps not everyone wants to listen to music when playing and that there should be an option to turn off music which many games have?

Quite. Several people have suggested this and it doesn't seem like a complicated request - it would be nice if DTG could acknowledge it and at least give an indication whether it's being considered or not.

Besides the fact that the developers or the studio must have really created a forum to make it look pretty, they probably spread customer feedback under their arms, not to mention another area.

At this studio, the patches are called "new version" just to pay again for patches, because for example I have version 4 and 5 on my PC, and how can I say that the difference is at the level of a patch that should have been free!

And for the music that appears in the scenarios, I don't know what the creative team had in mind, and if they at least test their own creation once to see if it is not problematic, because either they are deaf, or they sell a simulator but have no knowledge of reality since who wants to play this kind of scenario in reality, suddenly boom it breaks their notifications, concentration etc.

Whatever you think, don't expect anything to be corrected in any way, the most that can happen is a modder who deletes the sound file from the PAK in her free time. But really, if you haven't been playing this game since version 5, you should know how the studio handles bugs, it doesn't handle them!

Does anyone know how to open a PAK file? I have some of the old menu music mods that have been removed from the TS community website and it could be useful to figure out how they work.

It’s literally free. There’s a free starter pack that includes the core game in all stores.

For all the criticism thrown at TSW5, People who complain that it should be free seem to keep missing this fact.

There is a catch, which is that it is a limited time offer because... Potato.

DTG finally read the room with the free upgrade, but made sure to make it as anti-consumer as possible.
