    Blackpool or London would be great. Personally l’d love to see the 40s to 50s era in a tram simulator with a Birmingham City route to the Lickey Hills.

    If modern day, then a Sydney tram route would appeal to me.

    I'd love to see the Manx railway. It would be a bit less intensive than a city tram network, but it would still be very pretty.

    What is everybody's thoughts on CTS currently ? I see its 30% off at the moment and the recent steam reviews are positive. Has there been some updates since the last post here fixing issues or adding features. Is it now worth getting ?

    I own Tramsim Vienna already and to be honest, I dont mind CTS being a fictional city....Its the experience of driving trams I like and setting up routes/timetables etc (which was something Tramsim vienna never had) and seems to borrow that from Bus Sim 21's Tram addon

    In my area, the latest reviews are simply along the lines of, “I like it.” I also check the CTS page periodically, currently version 0.4.0, after the New Year they want to release 1.0. Will they be able to add anything new by then? I doubt it. I think it's still a “weak” game.

    Still not enough discount to tempt me at 30% off.

    Even with the current sale incentive, Steam DB still only shows 53 players in game.

    TSW5 - in excess of 1100.
    SimRail over 700.

    Based on my observations, I would like to say that you should not look at the number of players, but at their dynamics over time. In the case of CTS, the peak of online (705 players) was at release, then online was just low, but in the range of [25;100] players.
    Of course it's silly to say that "everything is fine", but people play, maybe the interest in trams specifically is not as high as in trains.
    As I wrote, I decided for myself that if I see development progress within a year, then I will buy, or if there is a good discount.
    I don't want to write anything bad about SimRail, but in my opinion it's a pretty raw product. When I tried to play it, it didn't even have a save function. At the moment there is no news from the developers at all.
    In this comparison CTS looks more favourable to me.

    They released a massive update just a few weeks ago. I doubt they'll be immediately giving out information for future updates.

    I decided to go for this in the current sale and was pleasantly surprised. Physics, graphics and sounds are quite nice and while I’m still not sold on the fictional city concept I hope the solid bones here can develop into a sim with additional city / tram DLCs like the TSW model.

    I’ve never driven a tram IRL but have driven buses for the large vehicle experience and have rode plenty having previously lived in Toronto and it all feels plausible. Side note, Toronto would make a great North American DLC at some point with its extensive network.

    Doubts about the CTS are not about quality, but about further development. However, your words made me think about buying one, especially in my region the price is more or less loyal.

    After the post of honourable dr1980 I finally decided to buy the game within the framework of this sale. After spending a whole evening on the game, by pure coincidence I became an early access supported buyer, because Steam probably won't let me refund after ~4 game hours:o:D.
    Pros:
    • The ride feel, sounds and handling are really good;
    • The variety of trams, even though I've only opened 2, they differ in features and sounds, I haven't noticed any difference in handling yet;
    • Announcer in German adds some authenticity and atmosphere, in my country Russian and English are mostly used, German is a rarity for us;
    • The planning and routing, but this is perhaps the point without which the game would turn into an arcade;
    • I like the idea of developing a transport company, you can plan your own fleet of vehicles;
    • The length of the routes and the city is high enough for early access (I'll write about the city itself below), if you ignore the placeholders at many intersections, there is enough space to ride;
    • The presence of real brands, which dtg_jan wrote about on the previous page, is really nice and makes the world more believable.
    Cons:
    • The graphics are detailed, but in my case it seems somehow grainy, although the graphics preset is set to "high", definitely different from the screenshots;
    • HUD is minimalistic, I would add the ability to display traffic lights and restrictions similar to TSW;
    • Some quests do not work or are not explained, one of the quests was "stop at the station near the University", but it counted only on the 2nd attempt, now I need to make 15 perfect stops, but what is meant by "perfect" no one informed me;
    • IBIS setup is unclear, the manual doesn't really tell me how to programme a route, I enter the IBIS code, driver no. but then can't set the route as there are no stop numbers anywhere, I have to skip this before starting a trip;
    • The city of Tramau is the cornerstone (in our country it means very controversial) in this game, I will write more details at the end of the post.
    In general, I enjoyed the gameplay itself, yesterday I sat at the computer all evening until 10 PM, although I usually go to bed at that time, but yesterday my spouse had to remind me of the time and that I still have to go to work in the morning. I drove the routes I had built and didn't want to finish. However, the minuses are hitting me below the belt. Yes, we have a fictional town, but in fact it consists of a circular road, its intersection and 3 junctions on the edges. Even in Cities: Skylines, I've never built roads and public transport routes so uniform. Why couldn't you recreate at least a small section of some real city? Maybe I don't have the information, but it doesn't require licensing, does it? Be sure to post if anyone is aware of this. We are greeted by a nice setting, the developers were clearly inspired by European cities, a few architectural structures are recognisable. But is it as interesting as a recreated real city? Of course not. We drive through a nice environment, which has no history, iconic events related to it and other things that could add to the involvement, and it's very sad. In TSW, ETS2 and ATS I always like to drive near real objects, cities and architectural monuments, unfortunately in CTS this feeling is not present:(.
    We end up with an engaging simulator in a not very interesting setting. If the developers will bring the project to mind, will fill the "root" city and add real cities with the ability to customise routes, the game will find its buyers and fans. I was forced to put "not recommended" on Steam, but as soon as I see the changes, the review will be reconsidered and become positive.

    Asked about the post-release roadmap in Discord the other day, but went unanswered. Probably the guys are either on holiday (or ignoring me:D).

    Good morning devadatta357,

    First of all, thank you very much for your detailled review! Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, but we only got back to work this week and have a lot to catch up on.

    If you would like to learn more about Tramau's history I recommend checking out the "Pic Of The Week" articles. Leading up to the Early Access release ViewApp published weekly updates, highlighting different aspects of the game, including the cathedral (built in 1205), the Weber Theater and more. You can find a link to these articles here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/pic-of-the-week.211/

    Regarding any technical issues I would recommend reaching out to ViewApp directly, they offer a support ticket system on their Discord server, where the developers will help you directly. When you do create a ticket make sure to add as much detail as you can, including your system specs and maybe even some screenshots, if possible.
    You can also tag the developers directly, Daniel is ViewApp's Community Manager and always happy to chat with the community.

    And make sure to follow ViewApp on their social media channels and their YouTube channel, where they post regular updates for upcoming content and other news.

    I hope this was helpful, but please let me know if you have any other questions.

    All the best,
    Jan

    Greetings, dtg_jan!
    Thanks for the reply, and yes I learnt everything I wanted from Discord. Also my question about the release and content in the ticket was answered. Despite my scepticism, the answers and discussions (in particular the German discussion thread) in Discord made me optimistic and I would like to wish good luck to the guys with their project. I think we will all hope for a successful release and further development of CTS.

    QUESTION I have not ventured to try CTS yet, but is it similar to TSW where you can walk around the scenery?

    From an item in the Suggestions section, it appears not as someone is asking for this.

    Not sure what the request was about but you can get out and walk around although I’ve not tested exactly how far.

    It’s actually a nice little game with a mixture of driving, obeying signals, avoiding idiot drivers and the occasional lemming alongside a bit of a logic puzzle I.e. you can give the public lots of services but those services will get held up by other services if they use the same tracks and termini.

    It is, currently, massively let down by a large number of crashes on ps5 so that’s a BIG issue they need to sort urgently before I start getting disenchanted with it

    Yes, that's also my impression on this game.
    But fortunately I haven't expirienced any crashes (also on PS5) so far.

    Yes! I thought lets give it a go. No announcements are working on consoles!, and some other bugs. Can someone from Viewapp or DTG at least respond and give an update about fixing this? I just spend 45 euro on this game. It was supposed to be ready after all these months in early acces and getting beta tested for free by all the pc players. Im not happy atm.

    Good morning,

    We'd like to apologise that you are still experiencing issues. A patch was released last Wednesday, which reduced the frequency of crashes, but they still occur on PS5 systems.
    This, along with the missing announcements on consoles is currently being investigated by the team.

    If you would like to report issues directly to the ViewApp team, you can do so by joining their Discord server and using their dedicated ticketing system: https://discord.gg/viewapp-community-1053340211016372285

    All the best,

    There is potential here to be sure. But it still requires a big push by the developer or DTG as overseer to eliminate the bugs and buff up the gameplay. I remember years ago playing a top down game that was simply called “Bahn” where you could set up a transport network and run to a timetable. This could easily become a fully interactive equivalent if all involved apply themselves to the task. However I can’t see it being a full price purchase, more one for a decent 50 or 60% off sale.

    Why don't they get in touch with the players themselves? If their community manager shows up here on the forum, or they at least start giving feedback in Discord. The last time I left a ticket, I had to wait about a week for a reply.

    Hey there,

    just to clarify, this is the Dovetail Games forum, and I am a Community Manager for Dovetail Games. City Transport Simulator: Tram is developed by ViewApp, with support from us, which is why I am gathering information on bugs and issues, so I can then relay it to the ViewApp team.
    ViewApp's support is handled by them internally, but as the team is rather small, direct replies might take longer than usual.

    All the best,
    Jan

    So far enjoying the game on PS5. No crashes but I've only started career mode and not done sandbox. Only just realised there are no announcements as I had seen on previews. With the traffic I think the cars are sometimes just slow to respond to lights. Things have moved ok for me so far.

    I thought I'd risk all and pick it up whilst it's still £18 and first impressions are a little mixed.
    Gameplay wise, not too bad - and whilst I think there's enough in there to justify my purchase, I'm not particularly keen on the way in which the 'fix it later' mentality has once again reared it's ugly head on consoles....but this time around it's Aerosoft levels of bad!

    Performance wise it's a real shoddy affair on XSX. The level of pop-in (which isn't just horizon scenery, it's trees, vehicles and street assets as well) is horrific, framerates are all over the place, lighting can be a flickering mess (especially on the windscreens) and my console has suffered multiple CTD's. If you (amongst other things) add in a complete lack of announcements, bizarre vehicle behaviour and passengers released in to oncoming traffic, the end result feels more like a game that has continued it's early access journey instead of being the much proclaimed finished product.
    That point in itself being particularly concerning because due to those Draconian refund policies in place on consoles, we're stuck with what we purchase regardless of how it turns out....and that should NEVER include early access content.

    My biggest worry though is that ViewApp are notorious for walking away from their moral responsibilities and having Dovetail Games as their publisher doesn't fill me with confidence that they will fulfil those obligations this time around either.

    Look, I can't question the value of the standard edition and have no arguments about the direction in which Tramsim has taken (even though it's a fictional city) but to have to tolerate multiple issues in a game that gives the impression of being released too early in order to bolster 2024-2025 profits and will probably never be fixed isn't the scenario I was hoping for.

    Lessons have not been learned at ViewApp and DTG's only interest will be in how much money can be gleaned out of CTS so despite it's obvious potential I kind of fear the worst for this game.

    I agree! I bought the game for Xbox Series X. But it has already so much bugs. It is crashing all the time. The trams are stuck everywhere, it is not possible to run on time like this. The passengers are floating and all over the place. The destination board is not correct for the return journey. The announcements are not working on consoles.
    It is not working properly and i feel i wasted my money at this point. This game was in beta/ early acces for pc for a long time, to smooth out all the issues and 28th of january it was supposed to be ready for consoles. But its really bad atm.

    If you only edit a very small portion of a comment (eg correcting a spelling error) then it will flag as potential spam when you attempt to save your changes. The best way to prevent this from happening is to make the intended alterations and just delete and retype some/all of the last sentence before saving.
