I'm getting around the "too many shunters" problem by virtue of the fact that most of the local freight has to leave or enter portals at some point: the one in Riesa takes stuff to Zeithain, which is off-map, and the assignment serving Coswig comes from Dresden-Friedrichstadt... by carefully putting stuff in the right order, I can make it so I have several 363s jumping across the map, each of which only interacts with wagons from DRA and one other DLC. I'm pretty sure doing it like this actually reduces the amount of active vehicles on the map too.

The Coswig Concrete Sleeper Factory services are now in the main timetable.

I also made a second set of services today:

    Screenshot 2024-05-07 152830.jpg

A 185 at Riesa, waiting for a path to take old coaches to Niederau for storage.
(Other freight locos will sub in on this one, and I'll replace the mint coaches with the red ones from the 218 loco add-on once that comes out.)

    Screenshot 2024-05-07 162005.jpg
    Screenshot 2024-05-07 162200.jpg
After arrival, a 363 takes the coaches around the loop at Niederau and places them in sidings.

~No~ 363s were harmed in the making of this timetable.

amazing. finally some movement at coswig and niederau that isn't static stock or the through services. just like on RSN this will make the timetable and route feel so much more alive. I did notice on the bad weather scenario for the 193 where you start at coswig niederau is populated with 143's and all kind of stock

Any particular reason for this? You could use the BRO red livery as well. Only difference would be elec table in the cab car...

But all of it: absolutely amazing!

If I did that, this would then be the only service using BRO rolling stock. Just trying to keep the number of DLCs required for the full experience low.

Is it possible that I alter the DLCs certain layers rely on myself after release?
If yes, how difficult would that be?
E.g. using the BRO N-Wagen rolling stock instead of the ones coming with the Br 218.

You'd need the uncooked files, which I'm unlikely to release publically. (And of course I'll also make services using the 218 itself, which there isn't any suitable replacement for anyway.)

I'm wondering how popular Linke Rheinstrecke is. I want to use the red IC coaches as CNL since they look really alike from a distance. but I doubt many people have the route. The 103 and 110 are railtours there too so I might just choose that over the 218 that's pretty much never seen. didn't know there were coaches announced with the 218 already. since the museum doesn't have a 110 or 155 I'll just use the 103 as static stock, unless by popular demand I keep the others.

LFR is the only addon that has a Shimmns steel wagon with the improved brake physics, plus the Tadgs and the older trains for railtours - I'm using LFR stock a lot in my timetable. Honestly I'm not super bothered about how many people have it either, given that it tends to be quite cheap when there's a sale on.

Today's new train is based on PRESS' "Störtebeker-Express", which is an overnight special running on summer weekends, taking people from Zwickau, Chemnitz and Dresden to the Störtebeker-Festival on Rügen. TSW doesn't have the eclectic mix of vintage couchettes and seating cars that they use, but the 110 is accurate.

Specials like this often end up taking a detour to Berlin via Ruhland and Lübbenau, so that's the route I've given it. That means the train enters the map at Großenhain Cottbuser Bahnhof (where I took the screenshot) in the early morning, runs to Dresden-Neustadt (its sole passenger stop on the map) via Priestewitz and Coswig, then turns off to Dresden-Altstadt, where it leaves the map towards Chemnitz.

Threading this thing through the single track between Großenhain and Priestewitz without getting in the way of mainline traffic was a pain, and I've actually only got the southbound run finished today. It's great fun to drive though! You've got some slow sections where you need to pay attention to signals at the beginning and end, and they make the reasonably long run at track speed in between a lot more rewarding. I really enjoyed my test drive.

especially with a busy and realistic timetable it would be so cool to drive heritage services on special routes. like most british routes have steam and diesel railtours I'm glad german ones get them too. Spotted the 103 with the TEE 8 railtour sadly without TEE coaches. it's cool to see those trains drive by even just as AI. just like shunting services it's something to see as you drive the same RB service for the 4th time.

true. I meant it more as the last two routes we got there are heritage services. something that british routes got a lot already like RHTT, railtours and the ROG class 37 rescue and loco hauls. would be cool to see the Railadventure BR 103 or 110 on german routes or more action for the dispolok. I know you are doing it and really appreciate it. it brings a lot of life to routes having something different or special that is seen occasionally. would be great if it was more basegame is more what I meant.

Just a quick teaser tonight - I've been throwing some weird stuff at the signalling and as you can see, it's handling it really well!

Strange things are happening at the disused Dresden-Neustadt freight yard...

A few months ago, Alstom started using the old freight yard as storage for Dutch ICNG units while they worked on getting them approved for Germany. The previously-abandoned facility suddenly being filled with double-digit numbers of shiny brand-new trains made the newspapers! Of course I wanted to include a nod to this in my timetable. If you drive through the old yard (more on why you might be doing that in a future post!) at the right time of year, you might be surprised to find the old facility rather busy! We don't have the ICNG, but I feel like the ÖBB 4024 also looks suitably out of place in Dresden. Of course, there's also a chance of seeing one out and about on a test drive, or you could even drive it yourself!

As for the picture in the post above, that's the "Störtebeker" northbound working approaching the junction just east of Coswig. Anyone up for guessing which path it's taking?

Tomorrow there is a new ICE Service starting in Dresden Hbf going to Ostseebad Binz.
    Number: 1076
    tfz: br 401
    traffic times: every Saturday
No ICE service back from Binz as far as I know.

I've got the Binz service, yes!

In 2023 there was an ICE1 Dresden -> Binz and an IC2 Emden -> Dresden. I just made them both as ICE1s given how many people had been asking me for ICE1 services.

I did have to move the Dresden-Binz one by two hours so I could do everything with one formation, but it's an interval timetable, so the experience will be the same.

That means two playable ICE1 services each way and a few AI ones.

Coming off the high speed line onto the (S) bahn line a short bit gegengleis as the signal shows going over Radebeul Zitschewig to coswig? sounds more logical than the wrong way driving and then crossing all tracks before Coswig like the freight does now.

Exactly right. There's an eastbound RE coming out of Coswig at the same time the westbound railtour enters it. Using this path means they don't get in each other's way.

That's also accurate though. In fact I'd say it's the default path into Coswig, but getting onto the S-Bahn tracks at Zitzschewig is also an option they sometimes use in real life.

You're going to have to forgive me for the frequent posts right now, but it is a long weekend in Germany and I've got lots of time to work on the timetable. I got another railtour done, and it's the first chance to use the mighty class 103 in this timetable!

    Screenshot 2024-05-10 182209.jpg
We've all seen quite a lot of the 103 + red IC coaches combo, so I thought it might be fun to go for some refreshing mint green on this one. Don't worry if you want to take her up to 160 km/h though, I've got another one planned that will be a proper retro InterCity.

    Screenshot 2024-05-10 191612.jpg
Is this a bit silly? Yes! But the chance of seeing a 103 in front of a Karlsruhe Cab Car at Dresden Hbf, while very low, isn't zero in real life, so neither should it be in TSW. If you hang out at Dresden Hbf long enough, you will see something weird, both in real life and in my timetable.

There aren't very many railtours compared to the number of passenger trains I already have and the number of freight trains I'm planning to make. Putting in the railtours is not going to make adding freight much more difficult at all, whereas putting railtours into a complete passenger and freight timetable would be an absolute nightmare.

I'd think it was but the first time I drove there I was pretty confused as to where I was being let by the FDL. I'd almost want GSM-R in for the immersed confusion. Really impressed with your work. I personally can't wait to get home and start working in the editor soon. :D

Passenger trains are all done, "only" a few special services (local freight, railrours...) and about 200 freight trains left to go.

However, sometimes I add four trains in one day and it just immediately works. Sometimes I spend several days making a single train work. Sometimes I'm busy with other stuff and don't touch the timetable for a week. So... no clue how long it'll take. It'll be done when it's done.

Have you tried cooking the timetable and playing it in game? I've got an issue with the 642 whereby if you select a service from the menu, it'll spawn the same vehicle twice (in one direction, Stockheim-Frankfurt in my case) but spawning on foot works fine. Something to look out for when you test in game.

Oh, so that problem also affects the vanilla 642 and not just the repaint you're using?

All good, always happy to see people are interested.

I'm afraid there's no news right now.

However, do keep in mind: no news is neither the same thing as, nor always followed by, bad news. This is especially true in the PC Editor subforum.

Hey, I have a small idea for your timetable (if it's not too late to add a few more small services!), maybe you could when using the Habbiins translator coaches/barrier vehicles mod make some Überführungsfahrt-services, bringing fresh and shut-down EMUs from one place to another like this:
    upload_2024-6-2_12-35-38.png
    upload_2024-6-2_12-35-10.png

would be neat seeing some of those across the route. even if it perhaps was AI only, it would certainly add another different feel to it, I am sure!

cool idea. although pc mods make it unavailable for console players if timetables ever get put ingame by dtg. I'm still waiting for a railpool pack who run these kind of services

I wasn't very active in this thread since the on-going comments about specialities kind of left me out of the conversation and having an impact.

But just wanted to say I was very impressed by this timetable project ever since and am finally happy that not only the route projects got mentioned in the roadmap article, but also now some of the timetable ones and especially your project in which so many hard work flowed into since October.

Congratulations for being finally mentioned on the June roadmap article, mkraehe#6051! You really deserve it.

agreed. this project solely got me to make my own and although I am taking a slight break for a few weeks. I will be back. DRA is a very busy route already with a lot of options not going just two tracks A-B. and after three complete revisions Mkrahe is still interacting with everyone and making so much progress. I can only have a deep respect for the dedication and work put into this project. and that mention is well deserved.

Will you look at it, we got the ICE T, meaning, if of course you want to, but I bet you will, you can remove the ICE 3 from the timetable that's taking the place for the ICE T and add the actual ICE T into it! Congratulations, I'd say.

Just wondering if this project is still alive? This had a couple of nice ideas in it which would be great to bring to life:D

I'm sorry, I don't think I can confirm or deny anything here beyond the fact that I am absolutely still working on TSW stuff. You will find out what it is in time.
