Is there a mod or something that would allow me to open and close the doors with my keyboard with out pressing tab

Some time ago I asked the same thing directly to the assistance. There is no shortcut. But there are third-party programs that can create macros and then associate them with a key or combination of keys.
With a bit of difficulty you can do it, I also got a good result. But now I only use the mouse directly in the cabin, I find it much more fun, even if it is not always easy in some locomotive.

As far as I know it is something that Sam is pushing for internally as well, so we might get an option for that in the future at some point.

Well Matt appeared to be doing it in the Western Legends stream, so maybe they're working on it but not put it on the roadmap (perhaps they can't guarentee it'll come out), a bit like the speed limits on Bakerloo starting at the front of the train. I asked about it in chat and a mod promptly told me it will not be answered.

I think you are right I was watching the stream and that seems to be the case

I think he was using a console style controller, which has the option to open and close the doors on the D pad.

Possible, but when he's used a controller, it's generally been quite quiet. However, in the stream I could hear a click that sounded like a key press, and then the doors opened - that's what made me think he was using a keyboard.

I think this has been implemented in the latest (rush hour) update, on some addons at least. I was playing the Koln-Achen route and hit the Y key instead of T by mistake, and noticed that opened the doors on the Left of the train. Likewise U opened on the right!

These keys have opened the doors for some time now, y for left and u for right. It is a toggle so the same key closes the doors.

These keybinds have been in the game for some time now, but critically they were made rebindable in the Rush Hour update.

    Cheers

Why have you dug up a thread from MARCH - there’s no point

I was trying to figure out in what language the word for "left" would begin with a "y" and the word for "right" with a "u"; then I noticed that they sit in the middle of the top row of alphabetic keys, so the choice does make sense. I don't usually drive passenger runs, but I have also noticed that some locomotive's cabs contain controls for locking/unlocking passenger doors as well as for opening/closing them. The keyboard shortcuts may be easier to remember and use, but what about the oft-touted "immersion" factor?

It's simple: some passenger services have locomotives without engineer-operable doors.
DTG could develop an AI system that automatically opens and closes doors (like on Mk1 stock) but that is an entirely separate matter.

    Cheers

Because it was the most recent search result and nobody had updated saying it had changed, so now I have and in the future people will know and not have to ask again !

Not sure what you're on about but fine if contributions are not welcome here then I'll not bother in future.

'Bumping' means posting in a thread to bring it to the top of the list. 'Necrobumping' means doing it to do it on an old thread (which hasn't had posts in a few months) when you could make a new thread about it (there are some cases where a new thread may not be necessary). Contributions are welcome though.

You can rebind the keys in the keybinds menu, by default thwey're Y and U.

That doesn’t help - I was not aware that HappyBasher was a new member , and even if they were they should’ve read the forum rules

That's good to know. Being a very pronounced southpaw, I don't find "Y" and " U" to be the most convenient.
I mostly use Raildriver, which has a simple L/R toggle, but not all locos are compatible.

We'll worry about people violating the rules - no need to go all vigilante on newcomers. Thanks everyone.

As far as necroposting is concerned, it's only a problem if the new post adds nothing to the old conversation.

This forum doesn't need self-appointed hall monitors. Nat & co can handle what needs handling
