Passengers is an area that still needs work.

On the Bakerloo Line I have had instances where at Harrow & Wealdstone there are no passengers on the platform but the terminating platform is full of passengers just standing there.

Also many occasions where passengers just stand looking at a train rather than boarding and still lots of trains with no passengers.

Whilst none of this is game breaking it does affect immersion. Perhaps somebody could be dedicated to work on passengers.

Yes the NPC's still need a lot of work. Let's hope for TSW7 to have decent NPC's

Yeah I have noticed that as well, the terminating platforms are full of people or platforms with no trains due for ages also full of people where as your train no one wants to get on. I drove a peak service on the SEHS from Gravesend and hardly anyone was on my train for the entire journey.

They do look way better from up close though. They used to look like zombies, now they only act as zombies.

There's lots of weird behaviors in "Rapid Transit". E.g., a packed crowd that stays at the top of the stairs in underground stations, or people who fall though the stairway, or people who fall through the station platform to the busy roadway underneath (BTW, if anyone sees suicidal behavior in the Caltrain route that's a reflection the actual route [especially if it's near a crossing in Palo Alto] and a feature, not a bug).

I don’t believe they have deliberately put that in… can someone from DTG confirm? But based on streams etc, I feel I’m fairly safe classing that as a bug…

It was an attempt at a joke. Caltrain was the first route I tried and when the intro had a section to recover from the emergency brake being thrown (essentially a breakdown) I thought it was fairly representative of the unreliability of that system (which primarily uses 1985-era locomotives that are past their expected lifespan). Afterwards i tried other routes and realized this type of training was mostly standard for each route.

TBD if the route gets revised once the electrification project is complete.

For a long time now passengers will stand still even on full platforms until you close the doors and then they start moving around.

I agree it's an area that needs work and testing. I hate starting a service and seeing all the passengers disembark 2 minutes before departure.

Often on say a 8 or 12 car Southern service on London Commuter going from Brighton to London, the train is mostly empty by Gatwick Airport. This does not correspond to real life conditions at all. Those trains are packed and you'd never see such an empty train going into London in the morning rush hour.

for UK routes, I think a cool thing to simulate would be the difference between Sunday service and weekday service, not only in passengers but in traffic density, but hey I realise that's probably a lot of work.

Same with cathcart circle. At polokshields almost all the passengers get off and at Glasgow Central there are practically nobody left where as in real life the train is basically full going into Glasgow Central and lots of people are getting off

These types of problems seem to be prevalent across TSW, to include:

    1) Train is empty when service begins, even though it should have passengers
    2) Train has passengers at start of service, but then discharges all of them at the very next stop
    3) Passengers on platform don't board your train, even if the next train doesn't come in a long time and/or serves the same destinations
    4) You arrive and the platform is empty. Passengers start appearing just when you are due to leave

I have often wondered about having passengers spawn 5 minutes before arrival, since it would be more realistic to pull up to a crowded platform and the game already knows when a train is due from PIS. I would also adjust the possible destinations to include only those that the current train is heading to. The currently flawed passenger behaviour breaks immersion often and is definitely an area of the game I think should be addressed.

Yeah the passengers are basically a mess. On top of all their issues they seem to hurt FPS.

  15. simple as this okay ever since the launch of TSW2 they have never go onto the issue of the passengers and have just got worse with each DLC Release even routes that never had issues with them are starting to see it dovetail are in a huge mess and we are all sick of it when are we going to see a team of pros not a team of school leavers take over the ropes and get everything into line because we pay top dollar and get this its gone on way to long i for one are so sick of seeing passengers coming off the train and standing in front of the door plus when u start a trip all of them come rusing off the train where in real life u see them on the platform waiting to board

And I want them to have cellphones. People on platforms nowadays act in real life ideally for simple passenger NPC use in video games. Before the age of cellphones people socialised, read a book, newspaper or gazed. Today everyone acts like a zombie and stares at a small screen. It's a very simple animation. Stand still and look at your phone. There doesn't have to be an animation without as they will keep staring at their screen even whilst boarding. I would have been more satisfied with people staring at their phones than the colourful caps as it is more true to life.

Please DTG act on this! Passenger behaviour is so important to the immersion especially on busy commuter routes. I thought there was a fix some time back on TSW2 which seemed to be an improvement but since the release of TSW3 it has got really bad.

Bakerloo would massively benefit from improvements and I’d love to see passengers removed from waiting at the terminating H&W platform as well as from Lambeth North southbound platform. There should also be much busier platforms in central London with all of the passengers entering rather than just standing there.

    Also to add to the list fixes needed;
    Dressed correctly for the conditions
Standing too close to edge of the platform
Occasionally sinking into the ground and standing on the tracks

Maybe I took too long to get there? Maybe the passenger was impatient? But when the carriage doors opened, he immediately flew vertically up and disappeared "Screw it! I'll fly theeeerrrrreeeeeee" whooosh.

It looks very stupid when arriving at Middlesbrough at 0700AM and there's 3 passengers at station. And very often when driving a timetable run everybody gets out at first station and I drive empty train at rest of a journey. It kills realsim. There's only improvement I like on tsw3 compared to 2: Disappearing crosshair. Even menu is stupid when selected "button" is gray and non selected is white. It should be more obvious color.

It's pretty rubbish and DTG should be able to sort it really, I had one recently in Cathcart where they were standing in a formation all huddled together on the platform, as soon as I tried to shut the doors they all started moving. When t comes down to it people spend their hard earned on this game, and it's not a cheap hobby let's be honest. Perhaps after the upcoming releases DTG JD need to take a step back and start a new thread asking for people to give a list of game issues and fix them. We've had passengers on this thread so I'll add one: poor headlights on trains, what's the point in having headlights on a train if you can't see forwards in the dark/in a tunnel?. Generally speaking the game is MOSTLY ok, just needs a little attention to detail in places to make it a great game I think. PS please for the love of God sort out the sounds on the 150 ‍♀️

    5) Passengers are already on board a train that hasn't yet commenced boarding
    6) Passengers remain on board for ECS runs
    7) Passengers sitting on board out-of-service stock sitting in yards
    8) Passengers "shoving" your avatar and the camera
    9) Passengers on platforms where they have no business (express runs blowing through stations with infrequent service)
    10) Passengers standing beyond the yellow line and walking

Downloaded the BCC today and of all the passenger behaviour this one takes some beating, about 4 passengers on the platform close to each other doing synchronised umbrella raising hahaha

At some stations, the platform is empty, until you are stopped and opened the doors (e.g. Mering St. Afra in HMA) Then suddenly hordes of passengers start entering the platform and boarding the train. It gives some immersion that you have to wait past your departure time for all of them to board, but it breaks immersion that there's litterally no-one on the platform when arriving and then they all go "the gates have opened!".

Also notice that nobody seems to get on the first carriage(unless they are walking from further up the platform)

Anyone standing at the first carriage seem to freeze until the doors close.

Noticed this on both SEHS & BCC.

Yesterday I was visiting one of my big stations in Cities Skylines in first person and was surprised to see that Cim's (NPC's) had way more natural passenger behaviour than the NPC's in TSW. They act like they are really waiting for a train.

The dev's responsible for designing the passengers really should go have a look because one the most obvious animation the NPC's miss in TSW is the way they are positioned when standing on a platform. Most passengers on a platform will be looking in the direction that the train will arrive. In TSW they are facing the tracks. In Cities skylines they did this very smart. NPC's on the left side of the platform are slightly turned to the left and those on the right side of the platform are slightly turned to the right. It's a small detail but makes passengers look like they are waiting for a train.

One thing I noticed on The Bakerloo line in particular is that passengers will not seem to get on a player's train, but will happily get on a ai train going to the same destination.

The new timetable is nice, but the lack of passengers and driving an empty train kills immersion

Having played Glossop Line I really need to raise this topic again. Glossop line is a well made route. Nice, scenery, nice audio, nice gameplay, ... nice everything except the passengers. The passengers have become such an eyesore.

Are poses and animations for NPC's so hard to come by? Are poses and animations that difficult to make or too expensive to buy? What makes it so difficult that once passengers arrived on the platform they only have a few poses (stand, sit, hold umbrella)?

Did the delivery scenario today as apparently I hadn't, when your train develops a fault and you stop to allow passengers off before going back to depot you kind of hope that the passengers will actually get off the train and not all be sitting there when you get to the depot, COME ON GUYS, I bought the Glossop line on day 1 and have found it mercifully bug free in all fairness, thats a killer bug right there though.

Improving passenger behavior and station realism in the Bakerloo Line would enhance the overall gaming experience, making it more immersive for players.

I would go further than this, most train operator's world wide now advise passengers to be at stations 10 to 15 mins before their service.

If pax were spawned in the game 15 mins before the service due time, each pax could be assigned a destination based on available destinations of the next due trains according to PIS, this would not only mean you arrive to populated platforms but you will also have a mix of people waiting for different services on the same platform meaning some get on your train some wait for another.

Going on further again you can then program pax to either transfer to another train or leave the station when disembarking, these changes would give alot more realistic and immersive NPC movements within the game.

Thread like this is NO GO for DTG staff, they simply act as hostess or influencers - mostly just hyping and hooking up for new products.

As I mentioned in a previous thread:
    Introduction
Hello, welcome back to another suggestion! Today it's about game features. Last time we had a big update was in 2022 for Rush Hour. Since then there hasn't been many improvements to the base system for TSW besides graphics and lighting overhauls for TSW3. I'm talking about features that effect gameplay and the experience. I'd like that to change and I'd like for passengers and game to be more realistic..

    1. Luggage
The sheer amount of luggage you see some passengers with is astonishing some days. I would like passengers in tsw to Have a minimum of a backpack or a suitcase. Tbh, it's rare to see someone on a train without some sort of luggage. Some passengers could even habs shopping bags or other types of bags. You get the jist.

    2. Background Chatter
Having a silent train is just uncanny. We need some sort of background noise other than the train sounds just to represent the presence of the passengers.

    3. Disabled Passengers
We need passengers that are disabled in the game. This would mean you would have to bring them a ramp to board. Disabled passengers could range from people with crutches to people in wheelchairs. We just need that implemented in the game.

    4. Basic things on tables
I can't remember the last time I was in a train with clean tables. We need items on the tables to make it seem more alive.
This could range from personal belongings, tickets, or a passengers meal.

    5. Toilets
I'm not saying we need full toilet functionality but having the toilet in use or toilet out of order sign illuminated instead of having us not be able to access it for no reason would be a big improvement.

    6. Railfans
Most of us here on the forums are railfans. So we've probably all scouted out some bridge or spot at a station or in the town for taking videos/photos. Having the occasional Railfan at a bridge or a station would be great to see in tsw. And maybe you could include a feature so you get bonus points for tooting your horn at them!

    7. Police/Emergency Services

Could we have the transport police patrol stations and trains. Or even just anyold emergency services at stations sometimes. Every time I'm in Glasgow Central I've seen some sort of officer patrolling about the place.

    8. Station Staff
Wither it's gateline or other staff it would definitely make stations feel more alive. I feel like this should have been included in the beginning but sadly it wasn't.

    9. Train Dispatchers
I know this comes under train staff but it's kinda a separate suggestion almost.
At the bare minimum we need a whistle blow for when trains are due to depart. Personally I'd love to see a proper dispatcher with their baton/flag and whistle but I could probably settle for an invisible blow of a whistle to dispatch trains. Would also be amazing to play as a dispatcher. Similar to SCR you would be allocated a set of platforms. And you would blow your wishtle and shine your batton when the train should close it's doors and do the same when ready to depart.

    10. Station Announcements
We need station Announcements! If I go to a station and there is no train announcements it feels kinda dead! It could also be dynamic so if your train is delayed or a a.i service is delayed then that could be announced! There could also be cancellation announcement for during scenarios. I know it's not really a passenger feature but it deserves a place in this thread! This feature Greatly improves realisim and the feel of the game. And the announcement need to be the real life voice. Not some generic dtg staff recording.

    11 Families and Children
It's very coman to see kids on trains without or without their parents. This should be implemented as it's really unrealistic and is a bit strange not having them onboard. This category includes adding teenagers as well.

    12 Door Release
In real life everyone know the doors don't open themselves (on most trains) they unlock and the button to open them lights up. You press the button. The doors open. You get on. We need this in tsw. We could also do with automatic door close. Some trains have sensors at the doors and if no one passes through them after about a minute they will close. They will still be unlocked until the driver/gaurd closes them though. If dtg can't be bothered making the animations for passengers opening the doors. Then have only the doors open that the a.i is pathfinding to and release the rest. That way it still looks realistic.

    13. Stay Behind The Yellow Line!!!
Frequently a.i in TSW will walk over the yellow line all the time. If your train is whizzing by at 100mph then they might fall over at the very least. They should either stay back, have phycics for the trains wooshing past or have staff shout at them. Otherwise these passengers are like aliens. Also please include announcements at stations for fast trains approaching.

    14. Driver Shifts Suggestion by T.83
    15. Clutter and OHLE Wear and Tear by pessitheghost
    16. Staffed Restaurant Cars
We're almost done with all the pandemic regulations. Train restaurant cars are opening up now. Could we have someone at the restaurant car standing there to make it looked like it's staffed? That would be nice. And on other services we could have someone walking down the train with a trolley like irl.

    17. Livery Designer, Interior Livery Designer and Route Editor by sam#2862 & lord everything
    18. Hump Yards by driverwoods#1787 and OldVern

    Wikipedia:
Hump yards are the largest and most effective classification yards, with the largest shunting capacity, often several thousand cars a day. They work similarly to gravity yards, but the falling gradient is limited to a small part of the yard, namely the hump. It is the heart of the yard—a lead track on a small hill over which an engine pushes the cars. Single cars, or a block of coupled cars, are uncoupled at or just before the crest of the hump, and roll by gravity onto their destination tracks in the area of the yard where the cars are sorted, called the classification bowl. The first hump in Germany (Leipzig) was built in 1858 and in France (Saint-Etienne) in 1863.

    Conclusion
This would make a great addition to tsw and would greatly improve realisim! Hopefully you like it! If there are other passenger features you'd like to see then please reply below. Thanks for reading! :)

completely agree with this except for Toilets and Luggage, out of order signs could have a chance of appearing but would be unrealistic to appear on every train and to be honest I'm not sure what the obsession is with wanting to go in them. and as for Luggage I agree for the most part but not everyone brings anything so some people could have nothing but most have luggage.

    Not necessarily.

Wouldn't be the first time I've cleaned two or three trains in a row with an out of order toilet.

Yes. It is an old suggestion. Decided to just repost here instead of bumping the thread. It's called new gameplay features if you feel like hunting for it. :)

You said it would be unrealistic, not that it wouldn't be on every train.

Re- passengers then I'd just prefer them not to be standing on the tracks, or dangling underneath a footbridge, as you approach a station.

Well here we are after one year and one "new game," and what has been improved regarding passenger behaviour?

    Absolutely nothing!

However, after reading over my post from last year, I do realize a few other behaviours that should be on the list:

    1) When you start a service and open the doors, almost everybody on your train gets off. Your train will be mostly empty for the remainder of the service. This can even happen if your starting point is a terminal.
    2) Let's not forget about the passengers staying on your train after the last stop and remaining inside as your park in the depot. Services that start in a depot often are fully loaded with passengers as well. At least that's logically consistent?

Perhaps I will remember other issues at some point, in which case I will update again next year!

What DTG is doing best is playing a straight bat facing such cases, sad and very very unprofessional.

    You said:
    Then I said:
If you read my comment right, I said it wouldn't necessarily be unrealistic to appear on every train.

What you basically said was that it would be unrealistic, despite me saying that it wouldn't necessarily be the case.
