No, it's not the same. Men are never too old to play, it is just that the toys get more and more expensive. I'll get some one who knows what they are doing build my next one.
If it helps with the peace of mind, Arctic offers 6 year warranty for water coolers and even fans. If you watch YT channels like Gamers nexus you will see that their CPU cooling solution for years is the Arctic Freezer II 360 for its top performance and quality. Of course, you choose based on your experience and beliefs. I have 5 Noctua fans sitting around from my previous case. I prefer the Lian-Li that came with the case and the Arctic that came with the radiator. I had a Noctua A14 that developed a motor clicking noise and I wanted to have it repaired/replaced. They asked me to break some blades, send a photo with the proof and they will send me a replacement. I was baffled that this is the process for the ¨God¨ of air cooling. I told them I am not doing their job and take over the e-waste responsibility. I get it, it´s costly and they rather have users do it but not me. When they saw I am not falling for it, they started to refer me to the actual warranty policy which said nothing about braking blades nonsense. Thank God I did not had a faulty CPU cooler, they might have asked me to hammer it down and break the heat pipes...
Well that's exactly what they are doing, having to ship a faulty product back to Austria, and then ship a new one, again from Austria is not only significantly slower but would also generate significantly more diesel emissions and what have you. Besides, this practice is becoming more and more widespread when it comes to gaming accessories.
True enough re. toys. And apologies, on reread I can see where my post may not have come across as lighthearted as I meant it to.
I agree with you on the emissions part. I think they don´t want to do it because of costs though. Despite what their official warranty policy states, they have this other standard that they actually go by. The costs for a company to recycle electronic waste is not negligible compared to an individual person which drops them in local centers free of charge. Of course they want us to do it instead. When my Asus motherboard was declared faulty, the retailer took charge and replaced it for me. Locally. Not Asus. I think Noctua can arrange something like this too and then collect the faulty products once a month in a batch or something to be efficient if they really care about efficiency and the environment.
I've now gotten a 5900x to replace my 3700x, plus a Thermalright Peerless Assassin cooler as raved about by Gamers Nexus. Hope to drop it in soon. My understanding is that water coolers now are much improved, but I haven't yet felt like dealing with that whole apparatus. Good air cooler plus a half dozen case fans is working fine for me.
You’ve got a lot of great suggestions here. I’ve got a custom build, water cooled PC. My specs are in my signature and my PC runs TSW4 at a pretty constant like 70-80fps, with some spots a little lower, regularly. I run on Ultra graphics with the JetWash graphics enhancement and GodMode.
To follow up on this, I did not have too much time to test things out yet, but in general I'm very happy with how this build turned out. I'm running in 1080 ultrawide with everything on ultra except sky quality, with JetWash's Lighting enhancement pack on the high preset, resolution scale on 150% and DX12. My GPU utilisation is around 60%, CPU around 20% locked to 75Hz, as that's my monitor's refresh rate. Unlocked with these settings, I'm getting around 125 fps. Did not check the temps but I haven't heard the fans ramp up at all. Haven't done much OC, only XMP and ReBAR enabled for now. Judging from my preliminary results MercDriver you should be more than fine with your setup for 1440p ultra up to 120-140-ish Hz. EDIT: I'll check NY Penn tomorrow. I got these results on FCL and SEHS.
Well my friend I'm soon going to find out! I checked the spec making sure all was as it should be. Confirmed my choice of monitor with a trip to C****s. Checked the build list for the 100th time, then without trying to look a the order value hit 'THE ORDER' button.
Did my CPU/cooler upgrade yesterday. The only real headache came when I found that one of the fans on the side panel of the case was bumping into the cooler fan that was elevated a bit due to being above the RAM. So I moved the one cooler fan to the other side and flipped the middle one so they're in pull rather than push mode...and then it turned out the case fan was still hitting the top of the cooler itself. So I had to take that fan off, and then the side panel went on fine. The Wraith cooler that came with my 3700X worked perfectly well, but the PA is definitely on another level. On testing with Handbrake, despite the 5900X having more speed, more cores, and pulling more power, it's still running 5-10 degrees cooler than the old chip. I can definitely feel the difference in the amount of heat coming out of the case as well. And regarding the CPU itself, a video conversion that took something over 20 minutes with the 3700X finished in about 13 minutes with the 5900X. Definitely a worthwhile pair of upgrades.
I finally collected my new PC from Overclockers on Friday. The only thing I changed from my spec detailed in my earlier post was my choice of monitor, I settled on a 27" 1440p in the end. I did pay a visit to Currys and looked at a 32" version but found it overpowering when sat in my sim driving position of 22". I am so pleased with my choice, it runs TSW4 on ultra settings and a rock solid 60fps. Don't you just love New Toys.
Nice to hear! With this kind of setup you never choose wrong for TSW! The difference in this kind of high-end segment you noticed no large differences due to the reason TSW is cut on a way lower level and doesnt use alle power from your'e system due to missing support for it. The only advice is paid a little extra for a GPU... I mean an upgrade what made was from an AMD Radeon 6750 to a Nvidia 4070ti and that is for TSW more than enough...
Thanks Xander for your help and support during this process. I just need to get my TrackiR sorted now. My current up to date version of the software does not recognise TrackiR when launching TSW. I think this one needs another post to attract TrackiR uses.
I have TrackIR 5 and works flawless i dont know what the problem is.... Or do you have an older model?
Make sure to update your trackIr software (somewhere on the top in the program) so it downloads a version that is TSW compatible. My default installation wasn't.
It is strange because when I went back to version 5.4.2 you could see TSW2 in the applications listing when I installed it on my laptop. When I set it up in TSW4 it worked even loading my profile. I installed the same on my new PC and no. Today as well as enjoying A great drive in a Steam loco in The Peak District I carried out a few updates and general tasks, one being fixing the Bluetooth as it could not find any devices. So I'll give it another go.
