A short video interlude. I'm not that keen on making videos, especially when I have to talk. I felt I wanted to share the construction in Livery Designer of something very important to me - and much of my repaints. The BR Arrow. It's a tricky little thing, the BR arrow, but after much trial and error, I've found a way of making it in Livery Designer without having to measure anything and using only readily available Livery assets. The video is about 15 minutes long. I hope it is of use to someone.
Well, I finally managed to finish my Eastfield Scottie Dog emblem on the Class 37!. It's taken some time, but it's done. I hadn't calculated on the number of layers though and discovered I'd over done it and did not have enough layers for the data panels! I managed to claw back a few layers by simplifying a few other livery details, but I was still quite a bit short, so I've had to compromise on the data panels. They are there, but don't try to read them - the illusion will be shattered. Here is the first example then of an Eastfield (Glasgow) TMD Class 37 with a 'Scottie Dog' emblem - 37408 'Loch Rannoch' in Large Logo livery
Have just updated and re-uploaded 37408 after I realised I'd forgotten the OHLE labels. Oh, and I removed the orange warning stripe which was added later. Still have to see if I can redo the data panels. Apologies to those who have already subscribed. Dave
Still wasn't happy with the 37/4, so I went back to it and gave the dog a 'short back & sides' and managed to claw back enough layers to be able to redo the data panels and have some left over. Re-uploaded, then, is version 3, now with complete data panels. Apologies once again to those who will have to re-subscribe! Dave
Along with the Large Logo 'Scottie Dogs' were the smaller Standard BR Blue 'Scottie Dogs'. 37237 in BR Blue with ED 'Scottie Dog'
37188 was one of a number of Eastfield 37s which carried the Scottie Dog in two sizes on two liveries - a small dog on BR Blue and a Large Logo dog on Large Logo Blue! Here is 37188 in BR Blue
37300 in BR Blue with Scottie Dog. After spending most of its life in South Wales, 37300 was transferred to Eastfield, Glasgow in the early 1980s and received the ED Scottie Dog emblem. I managed to photograph it at Motherwell TMD in September 1985 in this condition. The loco was later taken into the Class 37 refurbishment program and emerged as 37429 and returned to South Wales.
37190 in BR Blue with Scottie Dog. Now preserved, the loco had been renumbered to 37314 as part of Scotland's dedicated Steel traffic locos, but reverted to 37190 some time later.
37264 in Large Logo Blue with Small Scottie Dog. I photographed this loco at Eastfield TMD in May 1984 and never noticed that the Scottie Dog was smaller than normal for the Large Logo locos.
37403 'Ben Cruachan' in retro BR Green livery. 37403 was originally named 'Isle of Mull', then became 'Glendarroch' and finally 'Ben Cruachan' in retro BR Green. Currently, the loco is preserved in Large Logo livery as 'Isle of Mull'.
This completes the current batch of ED 'Scottie Dog' adorned Class 37s. I'm still working on the Class 47 'Scottie Dog'.
The TSW6 'Riviera' route has prompted me to get out my Motive Power Pocket Book and see what locos Laira TMD, Plymouth, had on its books. To prepare the ground for a scenario, I have re-uploaded 3 Class 37s, associated with the Plymouth area, that had issues with their BR arrows: 37181 37185
Next came a batch of coaches for the scenario. A mix of liveries... MK1 BSO W9296 in GW Chocolate & Cream MK1 BSO M9204 in Blood & Custard
Back to locos - Laira TMD had a fair few Class 08 shunters, which serviced Plymouth and as far as I can make out, all the way up to Exeter St.Davids. Here is 08377
Laira didn't have many Class 37s, but here are a couple: 37142, now preserved on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway and part of Team B&WR:
Final one today is a bit of an odd asset - a representation of the BR prototype DMU 140001, which was part of the development of the 2nd Generation of DMUs that became the Pacers (Classes 141 - 144) It is only a representation, the front end in particular was quite different, but it captures the flavour of the prototype.
To conclude the Laira TMD - allocated locos for the Riviera route, here are the last 2 Class 47s. 47136
Another Reality vs Simulator set of pics, this time at the other end of Plymouth station. L-R 08895, 08954 and 253030 on 3rd July 1981
A 3rd Reality vs Simulator set of pics. 08937 at Exeter St. Davids on 9th February 1984 Had to compromise with the wagons as no HTVs in game. Getting the height was hard as the canopy roof gets in the way!
