Like I said DTG have abandoned it completely to fully work on TSW now. Expect no more core updates or even a new experimental build
At least roll back to a working core. Being quiet about any update to the core or even acknowledging that there is still a fan base who is still dedicated is a slap in the face. Maybe this is purposeful? Wait out all the old guys and gals until the fade into obscurity or wait for them to buy the shiny new toy (TSW) again and again every year (5 alliterations so far and number 6 in the works), then DTG can justify closing up shop or sell the franchise.
Or maybe we (the community) could try to fix it ourselves? Like if a team could remake the TSC core as a free and open source implementation. Similar to how OpenRails (MSTS) and OpenBVE (BVE) were created. How about work to develop OpenTSC?
There are already a few knowledgeable people who have "fixed" quite a few things that DTG has left in disarray one being Spikee1975. However he has received some face slapping from DTG. He has left quite a few breadcrumbs splattered about these pages and you can find a few if you search.
That might be the only way that we can get any part of it fixed. Is To create our own open source version of it. Or DTG might do the decent thing and release the source. Which has actually happened for some other software's before.
My mistake, it appears I had 2 tabs open. Moving the picture over to the correct thread in a few moments
DTG Jamie Can you please advise on the current status of TSC, if there are any plans for the core development. I was watching the TSW5 roadmap livestream and Matt confirmed that I may tag you in the forums as you can advise or may have some input for this. Right now from what I understood, it seems there may be no plans for the TSC core but please advise. We have been at v77.6b for almost 1 year. If this is not the right place in the forums to post this question, please let me know
DTG Jamie Can you please advise? I wanted to follow up as I was told 1 week ago by Matt to tag you in the forums so you can provide input on the status of TSC. Please let me know if there are plans to continue developing the core of TSC or is TSC stuck at v77.6 for now?
Ye will ne'er find the secrets dat ye be seekin' on these pages. The crew be sworn t' secrecy. If they tell ye, ye will be keel hauled ' n iffin, ye survive ye will be thrown in the brig. Those secrets be kept deep underground in tunnels on Oak Island. Aarg.
I don't believe that the long-awaited optimization will happen, we have to settle for textures dragging across the screen even with great hardware, the game renders strangely compared to any other game that uses DirectX 9. The game in public version ("without beta") has not been updated since 21 May 2024, so it will be a year without any improvements, maybe they will compile again just changing to TSC 2025 with the availability of different routes for new enthusiasts. And so the cycle of life continues.
Lets see if anything happens May 21, 2025. I tagged DTG Jamie in the forums in this thread and in the TSW May 2025 Roadmap Q&A requesting a status update since Matt suggested to tag him but have not received a response yet. Since it has been nearly 2 weeks without a response, I take it the silence must only mean one of two things, that nothing is happening or that work must be going on but can't be discussed at the current moment but something tells me that nothing is happening. I currently use v75.8a but it is a pain having to backdate newly purchased content from Steam to work with an older build of TSC
For those who don't know..... Jamie is doing a stream next week. 22nd May - TSC Core Stream (Pre-recorded by Jamie) The stream will be starting at 19:00 BST on Twitch/YouTube. This has been posted in the announcements section on the TSW forum. I'm not sure why it hasn't been posted in the announcements section here, but hopefully we'll get all the answers to our questions then.
Nice to hear there is a stream going on about the core. I am definitely curious and look forward to the video, it appears to be 1 year after the last core update
Interesting that they bury the message in another forum. This is the second time they have buried the message. As to it being prerecorded, maybe DTG is afraid of non flattering feedback during the broadcast, ya think? Something just isn't aboveboard here. Hiding from your player base for almost a year about core development only invites suspicion. What are your theories? O We are selling TSC. O TSW is much more fun and makes us more money. O Thomas the train is more realistic. O We will fix what we broke and make major improvements.
Unbelievable, if the core is not getting any updates, that must mean the new TSC will not have properly functioning headlight flares. I hope I am wrong about it but if TSC2024 soon to be TSC which is what we previously had now going to have issues with the flares, then I guess it's best to backdate to 75.8a, but let's see what the core steam provides us
Basically a “no news” news item after one year of deafening silence. How very very dissapointing. TSC really has become a cash cow now.
I can confirm the headlight flare issue is fixed in the experimental beta v78.1a, but the main issue with that build is most signals are red and you have to pass them at danger
So the official word is this is as good as it gets. Every year you will get the chance to purchase a bundle of routes that are pre-selected at a discount. Of those only one, or none, may be of interest. If your interest is long heavy North American freight, there may be European passenger included, and maybe a Japanese high speed rail. Why not give us the opportunity to make our own bundle and give a 10 to 25 percent discount, or by 3 get one free? For myself, for the past few years, I have been using both 3rd party freeware and payware content and only pick DTG items when a big discounted sale comes up. A trip to Train Sim Community offers an amazing selection of content. Content from SPS is as good as a lot of payware.
This is true, but that update also caused turntables to be problematic. When operating the turntable the deck turned but the locomotive did not and you received a crash due to derailment message and the game crashed. This was caused by disabling physics when the player's train is stopped. This was done to prevent creeping. This was so minimal, It never bothered me.
Welp. If DTG aren't going to fix the core. Maybe it might be worth looking into attempting to make an open source reimplementation of the TSC core? We got OpenBVE and OpenRails (MSTS). Is it time to consider making OpenTSC a reality?
I interpret this as DTG is in arrested development for TSC. Their project mission seems to be to "proof" content from 3rd party developers before release and let TSC exist. As said offhandedly during a recent TSW broadcast when asked in the chat pod "it's just ticking along".
Oh there’s news. The news is that they’re not updating the core because it wouldn’t be fair to us, apparently.
