God was playing Free Roam lol. DBSO 9707(607) and 47712 (Lady Diana Spencer) at Leicester on 27/1/24 on a Crewe to Norwich charter service. All in Scotrail colours.
I love a DBSO, and it looks great in that livery. It would be an awesome DLC for TSW too, since it could be used on a variety of routes for charter work. Great photo!
It seems out lovely push pull set went down for a visit! It'll be up in Scotland later this year! Can't wait to see it again! DBSO looks very funky.
OSE Class 120 | 120 030 IC55 Thessaloniki - Athens, Passenger Stop at Tithorea Station Video by me [Forgot hearing protection, horn is next to coupler]
I have already deleted all my posts! But the information I found mentioned, they were delivered in 2023 Sorry about it.
The 93s are here, the only thing I were questioning were the last sentence about them being our only ultra modern diesels. They have been seen out on the network, not sure if it were on their own power or not. I were sick of them by day one. Horrible looking and sounding things.
There's a reason you guys call them sheds lol. As far as prime mover sounds, that's just the sound of US freight; you either get the chug of a GE or the whinny of an EMD. A lot of it has to do with the EMD's being two-stroke and supercharged, that's where you get a lot of that whine from. You guys are more used to the chugging growl of four-cycle turbocharged engines, which I agree is far better sounding. The equivalent here would be GE and old ALCo units. That said, EMD makes a great product that lasts a looooong time. They're also known to load faster (due to the supercharger), versus the GE's that take awhile to load from turbo lag (look out when they do though, they take off like a bullet!).
I do not remember to mention, they were the "only" ultra modern diesel. There is the Class 68, - also manufactured by Stadler -, which I have posted about them, some times before, last year. Sorry, if the information was not right, regarding the 93. Please receive my apologies.
I think there are a couple of crossed wires here mate. There were, as far as I were concerned nothing wrong with your post. I just made a slightly tongue in cheek comment about the 68s as well. I haven't had any involvement in the 93s so as far as I were concerned nothing you said were outright wrong. There is no sweat needed here mate!
And Grey squirrels, along with other much ruder names I cannot repeat on here! They were certainly a new sound compared to the 37s, 47s, 56s, plus others on the freights before and like you say not as pleasant on the ear. They haven't lasted too badly, though lets see how they are doing in another 30 years when they're about the same age as the 37s are now!
Lol where the hell do you get "Grey Squirrel" from? Shed makes sense, but I'm not getting that one. You guys are way more imaginative with your nicknames for your rolling stock. Hoovers, Whistlers, Gronks, Daleks, Galloping Donkeys, Tractors, Hymeks, Warships, Westerns... Much more interesting than Geeps, AmCans, Toasters, and Rhinos!
Like the grey squirrels they came over from the US and near enough eradicated the native species, or in the 66's case locos. The strange thing is they all in one way or another make sense no matter how wacky they sound, and the same class can have multiple nicknames too which just adds to the confusion!
Thanks Matt. Really appreciate your comment. I am attaching here, the picture of the Stadler 93 again, for the ones, who did not see it. And another one, showing the front view:
By the way... the Class 68, it is 10 years old now. At least for the first units, which started service on 2013. The last ones were in 2017.
Not unusual. We still have 30, 40 year old trains running around. Even the Class 37 from the 60s sees regular use.
Yes... for a locomotive, 10 years is like "almost" brand new! They usually runs for around 40 years, or even more.. Of course depending of the maintenance, weather, and other conditions. On other cases they are refurbished with engine replacement too.
I think there are still class 20s on the mainline which are 70 odd now, so they are very much still in their infancy! Initial quality is another important factor too, but yes give them good care and let them stretch their legs and most well built locos will soldier on near enough forever!
Transpenine paint scheme or livery - as you prefers - for me, is one of the nicest one I have seen. LNER is nice too, so 2nd place.
Had a shift on the February Half Term trains yesterday at the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway. Here is a couple photos I took during my break.

Not exactly railway related but not sure where else I can post it. Why is this just like half the people on this forum?? :crying face: https://youtube.com/shorts/JzU_5YoSegU?si=iBIsbxj4JZ20HzaY
Obviously it's not in the airport security situation for me, but people with this mindset do my nut in. I had someone who when I were coming into the platform were stupidly close to the edge, so I slowed down and gave a nice toot of the horn and he moved, I stopped at the end and next thing I know he standing there at the door, which were wide open as it were a boiling hot day, complaining that I could have damaged his ears and I were breaking noise pollution laws or some rubbish like that. I were just about to make my point against him when one BTP officer appeared behind him and asked me if there were anything wrong. So I said to him, "I would love to discus it but I am sure this kind gentleman will do it for me as I must be off. Good luck!" and carried on with my day. The man ended up being done for assaulting that BTP officer apparently and his excuse were that he [the officer] were breaking his human rights by being in his personal space, according to the officer! Anyhow I feel I have somewhat managed to sway that video to relate to the railway rather than airlines but if not I have just wasted your time with a rather pointless and likely dull story. Oh well, sorry!
God..I hate people like that. I have delt with waaayyy to many people and passengers with that sort of mentality and it's just purely annoying.
