As someone completely opposed to a subscription model, it’s with some surprise I find myself posting this! However with the number of routes available for TSW, more to come and the inordinate file sizes (I believe those who have installed all content to TSW7 are reporting in excess of 500Gb hard drive usage) maybe it is time for a new approach. Now I don’t know about anyone else but most new routes you tend to play to death for the first couple of weeks then it gradually tails off to now and again, finally being revisited once or twice a year, if at all. Again, with route prices coming in at > £30 it isn’t cheap. So how about we can “rent” or lease a route for one month for (say) 20% of its retail value. So something like the new Leeds route would be £6.60, the dinky little Thames Valley branches £3.00. At the end of the month, the game/gaming platform terminates the rental and removes it from your PC/console. With the option if you wish to pay the difference and buy the route outright. Just a thought to address the ever increasing amount of content, its storage requirements and price. Note gain this is not suggesting the TSC style package arrangement but a lease of one particular route you may not otherwise have chosen to buy.
Even if DTG wanted to do this, it is not possible on any of the game platforms. DLC is purchase only.
Sorry but hard pass from me too For once, I'm not a fan of subscription models either. What if it's a route I really like? If I keep it for years, I'll pay much more for it with a monthly subscription than I did with the current model. Also, If I'd rent it for a month, then drop it, and feel like playing it again two months later, I would have to re-download the route each time I do that. Nah.
No thanks. Just another form of subscription model. With so many routes needing other routes for layers, I'd rather just have them to keep.
Oh well… Probably a silly idea, well it did come to me at 0400 this morning trying to get back to sleep. Must have been the excitement of the free version of TSW7 that fuelled my insomnia and inner ramblings. Surprised I even remembered by alarm time.
Why not a pay in 4 method instead? Pay up to the retail value of the DLC If you change your mind before the fourth payment, cancel it & don't pay anymore. Could be twice monthly or once monthly. I dunno
i’m not really sure why people are opposed to this. a monthly trial would be there if you want it, and might help you to eventually buy a route you otherwise wouldn’t have bothered with. and if you just want to buy the route upfront like normal, there’s still that option as well
No thanks. When I pay for something, I want to keep it, especially in the world of video games. Even though DLCs are expensive, and I agree with that, I prefer to wait and buy them on sale. And it would be impossible for DTG to do this, especially on console. Of course, it's just an option; we could always buy it directly. The suggestion isn't bad, but again, as I said, I don't see how it would be feasible.
