It's not the best route, but I don't think it's quite the monstrosity that some would have you believe. I've had some fun with it. If you have the JT Blackpool route, you can have a lot more enjoyment driving the 142, it substitutes for the 150 and has working announcements.
I agree although the 150 needs work. The incorrect speed limit on the St Ives branch is my biggest bugbear. Most things are not the monstrosities they are made out to be on here. There is much hyperbole.
The 150 probably a right off at this stage (just use the 142) but surely it can’t be that much work to put the correct 30 MPH speed limit back on the Up after the 20 MPH for the foot crossing around Carbis Bay. Sorry for ping, but Jasper_Rivet is there any chance at all you could get your route building team to take a Quick Look at fixing that, please. All they need to do is take a drive on the Up direction from St Ives and it will become self evident where the 30 needs to go back in.
Imagine picking that as an example to hype people for your work in late 2024. TSW2020 called, it wants it’s route builders back
There are three positive things about the route to me I would like to highlight. Firstly, the added rolling stock on BPO and WSR (post-remaster) is a very nice addition and helps those routes feel more alive. Secondly, the route gives me an excuse to bring out the Class 52 (that I’m quite fond of) on a route that’s more interesting than GWE’s “throttle to 100, wait 30 min, stop, end of service”. Lastly, the crimson and black Jubilees - while coming with their own range of issues - are nice for railtours especially given the speedometer and AWS in the cab.
My man, just no. This is how a good looking work in progress train simulator looks like. That screenshot from Rivet is a joke.
Agreed, plus the stations are well made and, as is often the case, Rivet have made the effort with their scenarios to make them more interesting than most. I'd be up for more 1990-2000 period routes and stock - late BR/early privatisation offers quite a bit of interest with variety of stock and liveries (disclaimer: I enjoy all eras to be honest so not that fussed, but that decade is what I'd consider "my" day).
Is West Cornwall not available in the sale? Was there I think when I last looked a week ago. Was thinking about it for the upcoming Shap route AI.
Yes, the WCL keys were actually sold out already on the day of this thread's creation, but the store did not realize it and it was sending out the WCL Railtour Keys instead. It took them a couple of days to realize this, then they removed the WCL from the store and had to get some extra WCL keys for those that had bought it but did not receive it.
Beautiful shots. This is what I expect from Just Trains. I’m hoping this JT route will reignite my desire to want to play TSW more as right now my tank is on empty. Hopefully this route gets released by the end of November *fingers crossed*.
Where Just Trains work hard to make their routes accurate to detail. Rivets attempts of Penzance and St. Ives are laughable and insulting to Cornishmen.
Rivets portray of WCL is laughable. You really think people are exaggerating when they share their negative opinion on the route? People are vocal because they should be, you’ve only got to compare irl vs in-game screenshots to see how bad this route really is. People who don’t care about attention to detail can probably look past all the cons and enjoy it for what it is. I’m not one of those people unfortunately. It’s even worse when I’ve ridden this line many times irl, so it makes passing inaccurate scenery even more taboo.
l have ridden on the route millions of times since 1954 and Rivets rendition is embarrassing. Thankfully we now have Just Trains developing routes that are more than comparable of those irl. Rivet are closing their forums, l’d rather them leave route development too. Their locomotive work isn’t too bad, not great but acceptable. The only way Rivet can repair the damage they have caused to WCL is to remaster it to compare with how it looks irl, and we all know that isn’t going to happen. The problem l feel with Rivet, is there is no pride in their work and WCL is so amateurishly put together.
Keep in mind the angles are entire different. Its difficult to represent your "best work" from a steep angle down to the scenery.. JT choose very suitable positions for their screenshots. I also wont buy fife circle with the new branch, my disappointment over the initial release wasnt going away even after the update. For me the question which matters: - did the scenery of the initial route get an improvement? I read outside endinburgh after crossing the bridge everything looks rushed. - will the running sounds of the cl.170 be fixed after they broke them with an update. Im simlply not interested to "support" products which shows lack of passion, nomatter its from rivet, dtg or even physical
It's not the angle. I could post any screenshots from Running Train Sim, it's simply a gorgeous looking game. There are WIP screenshots taken from higher up and they also look great. TSW could also look much better, but most of the assets are very badly made. Repeating textures, no weathering detail, badly set up materials and no light baking. Interestingly enough there ARE very good looking assets in TSW. But they seem to be a minority. So at the end, the game looks very weak for a 2020 era game.
Whilst I'm not a huge fan of Rivet's TSW work, I think it's worth bearing in mind they were one of the first third party developers for the game and therefore didn't have much to benchmark themselves by. Now that we are seeing Alan Thomson, Just Trains et al. joining the foray, I hope this sparks a bit more innovation from Rivet to match these standards. Whilst Rivet's routes do have their shortcomings and I'm not defending some of the shoddier aspects of their work, on the whole I think TSW would be worse off without them and at the end of the day, ceasing development would likely lead to job losses. I would also say that Rivet have made good on certain aspects of their work such as the 1938 stock (no idea if this is true to real life) but at least they fixed the massively glaring issues which made this train worthless at one point. Now of only Skyhook did something about the 187....
That is a fair point, as said before, Rivet are immaculate at Station Building and Train Models and aspects such as announcements (Which I I love) and a bit more functionality. But in Terms of Route building, Scenery, Timetable, Departure boards and PIS accuracy, absolutely abysmal is the word to put it.
Agreed Arosa was innovative at the time. I enjoy Glasgow to Edinburgh, I think it's pretty well built I just wish they'd sort the 385 sounds out. IOW was perfectly decent. Even FCL isn't as bad a I thought it would be and they are adding to it WCL was the low point for me. I also think TSW is better for having Rivet as a developer. It isn't as if anyone needs to buy their routes so they don't have to be affected if they think Rivet are awful.
