Nothing rose-tinted and also no reason to argue on a personal level. I'm just trying to think of a logical explaination why the 1st class coach isn't in there.

Because they didn't want to spend the money/time to make it, and knew it wouldn't really effect sales of the DLC.

I have a couple pairs to spare lol... with Luzern Sursee being an exception - usually I can get over some minor stuff like speed drop not being announced enough in advance and having to brake hard and such, but what I cannot get over is speed changes happening so sudden you dont have enough time to react objectively, and end up getting unfair penalty brakes (in this case broken ETCS being to blame)

otherwise I love TSW despite its faults :)

It was nothing personal, it's just that nothing in their history suggest cutting corners results in something extra somewhere else. It's simply a corner being cut.

Bigger projects like... ÖBB 1116 in a different livery with *gasps* 3 new scenarios...?

But on a more serious note, if Railjet ever arrives in TSW, it's going to be a standalone pack and not a part of a new route. I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of "TSW Deluxe pack" in a similar way as the Vectron and Flying Scotsman were for TSW4.

I don't think driving a railjet is a big difference to driving any other austrian train tho :)

well, yeah, but then you also have Taurus and its 300 kN at your disposal, making departure almost effortless, nice 230 km/h suited coaches, AAAND, you have Taurus shaped control car... sometimes you have two or three Tauruses on a longer consist, so there is that ZDS switch that would come into play... and gorgeous livery... so it definitely would be nice :)

Some interesting tidbits taken from the Stellwerksim version of this route (here, here and here):
    • Wiener Neustadt has a transfer meetup of all local lines at the same time every hour.
    • Trains coming from parking tracks have to go through a permanent 2000 Hz magnet (red light magnet) to double check PZB working correctly.
    • Platforms are divided by block signals into sections and generally are used by multiple trains at the same time.
    • Almost all switches within the freight yard are lacking electrical power and are operated by yard staff instead.
    • Parking track group has diesel and hydrogen filling stations.
    • Traffic on the Semmeringbahn consists of:
      • Long distance trains to Graz every hour (every other to Villach).
      • Doubledecker local trains from Vienna.
      • Container traffic from Koper and Trieste ports.
      • Car trains from Italy.
      • Ore and coal unit trains to Donawitz steelworks.
      • Maintenance trains to track and tunnel constructions in the area.
    • Freights over 650 tons require additional power to climb the 29 permille ascend to Semmering.
    • Rear banking engines are avoided nowadays, joining the loco to front is preferred, so that the train can be manned by single driver.
    • Semmering station has surface access to platform - it is prohibited to "undercut" a standing passenger train and endanger passengers. Wait on entrance is required, or a diversion through the sidings behind the passenger train.
    • Turning local trains are parked on mainline track in Semmering, including multiple hours stays between peek hours. All traffic must go through sidings during that time.
    • Depending on when the route will be set, there should be large construction works in the area, building Semmering Base Tunnel (2012-2027) and renovation of Mürzzuschlag station (2019-2025).

I've been to the Semmeringbahn many times and never have I seen those there, highly doubt they even have clearance in some of the tunnels.

I am not sure quite what trains use the whole route and which ones only use a part of it... I know a lot of connections/lines from Vienna, but I know mostly lines/corridors that belong to Nahverkehr Ostregion... Payerbach-Reichenau is a frequent terminus for a lot of trains from Vienna or arriving from somewhere and passing through Vienna (I believe REX1 goes from Břeclav... or is it Znojmo? in Czech Republic... cant remember... via Vienna to Payerbach-Reichenau)

so I dont know how far do trains with dostos go... some trains to Graz have those panoramic dostos from Swiss trains, not sure about height... O:) ... so I dont know enough really O:)

That one is not a Dosto, only slightly higher than a normal eurofima coach.
You can see it is comparable to the coaches you're getting.

oh ok, I sometimes see that one at Wien Hbf while waiting for my train to Bratislava :D and if I had spare money for it, I would buy a ticket to Graz... for the train... and for that weapon cache from Thirty Years War there :D

I know it is not the same, but I love riding the Badner Bahn all the way from Karlsplatz in Vienna to Baden... from there till Vosendorf/Siebenhirten it acts like tram, with a bit of underground section, a bit dedicated tracks alongside Sudbahn, and from there to Baden it is like a regional train up to 80 km/h, with a lot of runs in between houses, with terminus being in the middle of main square in Baden :)

Looking at the timetable, I found trains that go between Wiener Neustadt and Znojmo and then Payerbach-Reichenau to Břeclav. Both seem to be locomotive + Dostos, so we don't have appropriate consists in TSW.

Fun fact. The 1144 use to be in service hauling freight from Bremen to Emden for RCC in Germany. It could even be layered to the freight services on Bremen-Oldenburg

That is fantastic news Matt, thanks for sharing this with us. I guess the newer version of loco you are referring to is the U4 variant. Now my interest in this DLC is even higher!

I know you are busy and such, but could you please tell us if the Taurus and it's OBB passenger coaches might also get a layer on Vorarlberg? That would be really great and bring even more value to this already highly interesting pack.

It's not the U4, that would be a class 1216 rather than 1116. Honestly not sure what Matt means here.

Come on, let's wrap up this discussion. Taurus is the name given to the Austrian version. BR182 is a German Baureihe numbering so it isn't the Taurus. Yes it is the same locomotive, we know. The end.

It's hilarious to assume that freight won't be included. Even for routes like Maintalbahn oder Niddertalbahn there was freight. Why wouldn't it be the case for Semmering? When was the last time DTG released a german/austrian route with no freight, neither as layer nor vanilla? I think it was Rapid-Transit?

This is such a great choice of route from dtg, i travelled from Wiener Neustadt to Graz last year on this route (and i did no prior research, i had no idea the route would be so scenic it was a really nice surprise!)

The scenery if done right will be incredible here, my personal favourite part of this route was the Payerbach area, as when you are decending the mountains north towards Wiener Neustadt, you can see the railway line below in the town of Payerbach from high above, as you make your way down the mountain and around the steep curve.

it's an incredible route, i currently only drive uk based routes but this will very likely change that for me.. so overall a really good route to add to the game!

for me, one extra incentive to buy this is that on that corridor, I have only travelled up to Wiener Neustadt Hbf so far... and I have wondered each time like, how is the route after that :) ... so now I will be able to drive it in-game and see what's beyond :) and maybe later on get a ride from Wien Hbf :)

    It is actually not.
Taurus is a trademark owned by ÖBB.

It would be similar to calling the GWR Class 800 "Azuma", as some Class 800 are called that. And that is wrong.

I've seen that done multiple times and don't mind that a bit. Same as Br 182 is Taurus for me as well. It IS an 1116 with one less panto, otherwise identical.

we literally do not care, honestly, let us call them however we want. now that being said,

I hope we get to see some ICEs on the route too. I believe ICE T drive there but for the sake of this-train-is-not-in-the-game-yet, maybe the ICE 3 will do it?

I’m quite excited for this one overall. Seems like it’s abit far out yet, but V-Berg was pretty nice, I just would have preferred something other than that Talent to run across it.

If this route has the same or builds on the quality from VBerg then it’ll probably become one my top EU routes. One thing I hope it doesn’t carry over though is the night lighting.

Is 69 km too little for an Intercity? Perhaps it was more suitable for a mountain bike tour.
Not to mention the "anonymous" departure and arrival stations, when you have Vienna Hbf and Graz Hbf along the route... (But this is one of the historical problems of TSW). I would have paid triple for the "full" route. For real.

I apologize for the rant but faced with so much potential (large stations like Vienna or Graz, Railjet, OBB 1216) I get depressed seeing the usual route reduced to a minimum where having long-distance trains doesn't even make much sense. Instead it could have been an epic journey.
