Xbox Series X Series X Struggling With Frankfurt-fulda - Video Memory Error, Blurry Textures Etc

I have had that, have you reduced the resolution?

 

Always crashing when near Frankfurt for me on XSX. Also very blurry textures inside and outside of cab.

Done the same run on ps5 and was fine.

 

Does the same crashing happen on WCML South?

 

I’ve had frame rate drop but no crashing. Boston and Trenton crash a lot for me. Same with Brighton used to on one of the older tsw but never had it on PlayStation. Must be a Xbox problem.

 

Euston is a station that really is affected by crashes, everything else seems to be fine. On one note, I have had a crash on guard mode Crewe to Euston around Willesden yard

This route is still a complete and utter mess on console, especially Gen 9! I decided to play this route again recently after a while as it should be fantastic. BUT, there's just so many continuous problems with it that I'm not bothering with it no longer until it hopefully receives a lot of optimisation just in order for it to work.

For example, every service I played into Frankfurt the game had an out of video memory error, the only way to complete the service is to resume a saved game. Then, on a service departing Frankfurt the game closed due to a video memory error three times in a row - the last time was even after resuming a saved game. Then, along with this the continued blurry textures which ruins the experience of this route and makes it impossible without the HUD.

Elsewhere, this service 0743 ICE (275) Berlin Ost Bahnhof to Interlaken Ost service from the route is also uncompletable because just outside Hanau all the traffic ahead is blocked due to a freight train which is stuck.

The fact this route is still so unstable on console, especially Gen 9, is completely and totally unacceptable. Players deserve so much better than this!

 

Playing this route today I had the same problem as you on the Xbox Series X. Dovetail needs to resolve this as soon as possible as it is very frustrating. This console is very powerful and runs much heavier games smoothly. It's clear that Dovetail doesn't correctly optimize some DLC's, leaving our experience very bad.

 

OUT OF MEMORY every time near Frankfurt. I have the impression that rail tracks themselves especially huge sidings are too heavy for system, huge stutter occur near (even empty) sidings... Rails causing crashes in railway sim what an irony

 

It's not just this route. I can't drive to euston in the pendo without out of memory crash. I can in any other train. Last night had it on London to Brighton half a mile from victoria station. The mastery dosnt work any more and I can't download any liverys as it says I have to many. I have 20. . Was working till the last update. I'm on the verge of giving up with this game. Such a shame as there are alot of nice routes coming. But it's not worth spending any more money on a game I can't play.

Yes, sadly. I've given up playing this route completely because of the video memory errors and blurry textures. For this to occur frequently on Gen 9 is frustrating to say the least.

Can someone explain me, how exactly cloud gaming works? Sometimes I play on my Samsung Tab S10 Ultra with Game Pass. I tried both Apps "better xcloud" and the Xbox App.

Cloud Gaming has the same problems with the game as my Xbox. It nearly always crashes when you finish a run to Frankfurt.
So is it the Xbox or the game made for Xbox?

 

If you’re playing on Xcloud what you’re getting is basically the Series S version of the game running on Microsoft servers and streamed to your device. So not surprising you’d be getting the same issues (probably even more because it’s not Series X you’re getting from the cloud).

Well, along with Frankfurt-Fulda, Mittenwaldbahn now on my Series X is having the same issues, specifically out of video memory errors and consistent blurry textures.

When is this ever going to be sorted?

 

I’m questioning the same thing, which is I’m not playing TSW at the minute because I just know for a fact that if I buy Cardiff City Network or the NL route, I’ll just experience the same issues there.

Currently I’m playing British Railway on Roblox which has better quality than most TSW5 routes shockingly. Hell, even City Transport Simulator is more playable and viewapp is actually working to fix the game and update it more too.

 

To be honest, I must say the new Dutch route is actually worth getting. It's probably, in my opinion, the best route regarding performance (playing on Series X) in a very, very long time which is a really nice surprise.

While this route is still highly frustrating on console, I must say the route is at least somewhat playable. The majority of freight services towards the Fulda end of the route work without any major issue - even the framerate on Series X is quite alright too; however, the blurry textures are still consistently a pain and do still ruin the overall experience nonetheless.

 

Possible Fix for crashes on Mittenwaldbahn and Frankfurt Fulda for Xbox series X:

After testing i've found that if you dont use quick resume (loading up the game with all the dlc before starting Fulda or Mittenwaldbahn) will help prevent crashes.

Also I used HD graphics (yes it looks not nice, but i got used to it) from the settings and Custom Clear weather. Make sure you dont use much of the external camera's or photo mode. Zooming in maybe also builds up memory. Also prevent using open windows in the cab and avoid using the horn if you can as much as possible, because somehow I think the sound engine can also make the game crash and will build up memory usage.

On mittenwaldbahn you can get away with a lot more gameplay like external views and looking around etc because the route is more forgiving than Fulda Frankfurt.

So... basically sit in the cab still...and just drive the train

But with this method I could complete long services, also during rush hour. No problems when entering Frankfurt hbf for instance.

Hopefully the dev's will fix these 2 routes... so we can play them normally. But for now this should work for some people that are willing to take some sacrifices.

Some info from xbox support and gamesradar:

With the Quick Resume feature on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, you can jump back into your games right where you left off.
When you switch from one game to another, the console saves the state of the current game. If there’s a Quick Resume state for a game that you switch to, the console will load that state for you.

This feature will work seamlessly across multiple games, but if you want to bypass Xbox Quick Resume for whatever reason then you can press the Xbox button and highlight the game from the guide, before pressing the Menu button and choosing the Quit option. This will fully shut the game down and remove it from your current Xbox Quick Resume line-up, so the next time you start it, you'll need to wait for it to load up again.

 

So, have also done quite a bit of testing of Frankfurt-Fulda on Series X and here are my observations. Would also love to hear from others on Series X as well as PS5 too...

Anyway, the absolutely vital thing that seems to stop the video memory errors is switching your display from 4K to HD in the settings menu - so far I've now managed to play and, most importantly, complete around 15 services (ranging from the 642, 114, 146, dosto, 101, 411) in a row without problem! Bear in mind, the blurry textures still persist frequently and are a major issue, but at least the route is playable. However, just one thing, after finishing a service at Frankfurt Hbf, while walking around, the game did randomly close to the Xbox dashboard, but other than that, nothing similar.

One other thing of note, make sure you always have the interactive map zoomed out as far as possible, as that seems to effect performance.

I've also noted that when in HD, I've had no issue with different weather conditions - from overcast to rain etc - using the horn, windows, using the external camera (well not at Frankfurt obviously) and so on. Between Frankurt and Hanau, performance on Series X can be quite atrocious at times, especially Offenbach in particular, but after Hanau up to Fulda it greatly improves.

One other observation, many of the freight services (especially towards the Fulda end of the route) as well as the short 423 S-Bahn services and FlixTrain worked mostly without issue, even with 4K enabled in all different types of weather - though probably because all these don't go to Frankfurt Hbf.

For context, before I switched to HD, this was the result when using 4K. Out of the four services, two worked, while the other two had video memory errors (one arriving into Frankfurt and the other having just departed); what's interesting is one of the video memory errors occurred when having changed the weather to overcast, but when I replayed the same service to clear, custom weather, it worked. So, it seems clear, custom weather is more important when using 4K than HD I've noticed.

Welcome any more feedback from other players. Whether it makes a difference or not, but I have 41 DLC currently installed for TSW.

So, have continued playing Frankfurt-Fulda with HD as mentioned earlier. Have managed to play more than 30 services without issue - and when the route works, despite the super annoying frequent blurry textures and sometimes poor performance, it's very enjoyable. However, just to be clear, it's still not a complete fix, sadly. On departure from Frankfurt, had my first video memory error while as HD - weather conditions were heavy rain - but having replayed the service again with just overcast, it worked without issue. The only other problem so far was when playing another service and got to Hanau before the game froze and closed to the Xbox dashboard - weather conditions were foggy. So, best to keep saving the game frequently, especially for longer services.

 

Big 3.6 GB update yesterday and the game still crashes - what’s the matter with you, DTG? I‘ve saved the game right before the crash (did a service with the BR 411 from Frankfurt to Fulda, game crashed right before the tunnel), when trying to reload the saved game the train derailed immediately. It’s so frustrating, because I really like the track.

And by the way - the door indicator on the display of the BR 146.2 still isn’t working.

 

The save game system is, for the most part, broken; you may get lucky here and there, but it really is a hit or miss.
