No different from people suiting up when their team gets to a cup final in football manager (other football management sims available) :D

I'd push back on that point, it's all about scaling the experience and setting expectations. The Virtual Boy from 1995 is powerful enough for VR, as long as you set your graphical targets at monochrome wireframe vectors on a 50Hz display and build for that.

The problem is you need to make sure you meet all the other expectations. You can design a game for a 32-bit system and do it with polish. You can design a game for the Quest and do it with quality control. A game can look and play great on any system, if you make it right.

Hmm, I've been watching some review / first play (etc etc) videos and honestly, it's not as tragic as some are making it out to be.
    Is it cheesy? Yes
    Is it extremely limited? Yes
Would I buy it? Absolutely not.

But it's clear to see that it's a super casual game that's not aimed at someone like myself - it's just offering a chance for those who are that way inclined to plonk on a VR headset an play an approachable train game that's *not even developed by Dovetail Games* and I personally can't see the harm in that.
I remember playing Forza 4 (class F vehicles) obsessively to the point where I was actually quite good at the game, but didn't frown upon the likes of Blur and Split Second because they weren't as ultra-realistic - I enjoyed them for what they were....a fun alternative to the rigors of simcade racing.

As for visuals: Any self-respecting gamer will tell you that it's not about how it looks, it's about how it plays - and that's why people will always prefer TSC, Run 8 or Simrail over TSW.....and the reason why I firmly believe that Gameboy Tetris is the best game ever made.

Besides, as train driving alternatives go, is it really any worse than Thomas The Tank engine.....an addon that was not only built into what's supposed to be a hardcore simulation, but also a feature that some are actually requesting to see even more of!

Matt's reply of "it's supposed to look terrible because people want to drive it" is...well, It's a choice.

Ultimately it is what it is, but given the time and money invested in this l I cannot see the end quality appealing to casual VR gamers, existing train sim fans or anyone in between. And as regards phone or tablet games, ignoring the cloned Chinese and Indian ones, I can think of two or three which have far better graphics.

Or worse, wear the correct training kit for the team they're managing whenever they play Football Manager. I'm 52, never grow up.

That particular user I quoted tends to look down on console players a lot.

Lol I just see a advert for this, it started with clips from tsw5 then switched to a Roblox game!

If it's not made for pc then what's it made for, a zx spectrum?

The average review score is actually 3.7, which isn't great from what I can tell from other Quest games. It's also getting negative reviews in media outlets.

This game is definitely not a 4 or 5 star game. That's for sure. The reviews I've seen have also been rather negative.

Even if it's aimed at a more casual audience, the game could be better in many areas and that shouldn't be an excuse for the poor quality of this game

Theres a difference between downgrading to fit a VR Headsets Hardware/Software...and doing the absolute bare minimum to pass off a game as complete...
Which even in recent DLC releases, even some from DTG themselves is what id class on the border of "Bare minimum".

A few points I'd say about all of this..
If you don't want TSW players calling out the VR game for it's 1990's graphics, don't couple it hard up to the TSW name by calling it Train Sim World VR. I can't think of another VR version of an existing game that takes such a huge dip in quality. If it's not a VR version of TSW, don't call it that!
However that way you can't cash in on the TSW name, so it's obvious why you did.

As for the argument about most TSW players not having VR.. talk about getting the argument about face EVERY SINGLE TIME this gets bought up!
You're not doing it for existing owners, you're doing it to bring in the hundreds of thousands of VR headset owners who don't normally care about playing train games, but will play VR sims that immerse them. I own at least 2 VR car track racing games yet have ZERO interest in them normally - but in VR they're an amazing immersive experience. I bought Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky purely because of the VR experiences. And if I didn't already own ETS2 (and a bunch of DLC) because my kids wanted it I'd have brought that as well because of the VR.

You're right, I doubt many existing TSW customers want VR.
And you DEFINITELY don't want any new customers from outside of that group, oh no sir *insert eyeroll emoji*

As much as it looks... Questionable as a game.

If done right I can see the VR of TSW being one hell of an experience to try. Take games like Elite Dangerous, COMPLETELY different game don't get me wrong but flying a space ship in VR is mind-blowing.

I honestly think if they went away, he'll even for many many years to work solely on a VR port, a true hardcore VR port (INCLUDING bugs being fixed XD)of TSW it would sell. Easily.

I notice this thread has been quietly moved from the main TSW section to the VR sub. Fair enough but it does remove the information from the most widely read forum area!

I've yet to dip my toes into VR but it appeals to me. I've been thinking to getting a headset for Flight Simulator but the dreadful, buggy release of the 2024 has put that on the back burner. If normal TSW routes could be played in VR with no appreciable decline in performance I'd be up for using it.

I must admit I'm a bit surprised VR wasn't a feature from when TSW was first launched. My worry is that in order to improve so many features of this latest generation of train sim, it'll need a completely new base game which won't have backwards compatibility and we start all over again and will never get a network of UK routes like we have in TSC.

I assume part of the point with this is testing the water, guaging interest to see if it's worthwhile for the main game.

Well, at least that's what makes sense to me to do

Feedback about that missing track section - totally agree and no idea how that got out, but we have a big patch coming next week hopefully (trying to finalise it at the moment) which solves most of the issues people have been experiencing to date.

From the feedback I have seen on review videos there seems to be feelings that the Quest 2 is a terrible hardware choice (especially given that at this point it's 5 years old), and the graphics/environment is comparable to what a N64 produces.
