Why is it so quiet on the trains?
Trains are noisy, and I like to use it to judge a myriad of things.
Speed. Why does the Class 166 take an age to speed up and then seem to stick at 60-70 mph?

Has been reported several times. Stated that we are aware and working on it.

If I've misunderstood then please feel free to correct me...

But, if we are talking about the running or ambient sounds of locomotives/EMU/DMU cabs, most modern units are insulated and are pretty reasonably represented in the game. If it's noise you are looking for let the cab window down where possible. But you only have to look on YouTube for cab ride videos (for example Class 801/395/465/377) and you'll find they sound very similar to the simulated versions and I am pretty happy with it.

    Because it's a diesel.

When GWE first released, the 166 was absurdly quick, accelerating like an AC electric. After much protest (and one user's careful timings of RL performance), DTG revised it to a realistic performance curve.

I agree. Some find the modern cabs too quiet - but I find them fine!

For louder cabs, one should turn to older routes. Northern Transpennine and Spirit of Steam spring to mind.

Passing freight cars are loud, in the game they aren't..
Also, this thread is 7 years old and the person you replied to left 4 years ago, doubt they will "correct" you.

I still think there is a place for some audiotistic licence when it comes to sounds. We got it with the classic BR diesels where, technically, you wouldn’t actually hear much thrash in the leading cabs. But the latest crop of DMU’s and EMU’s seem to have gone for ultra realistic levels, or in the case of the Class 700 the levels are plain wrong with sounds from outside, passing trains etc being way louder than the pitiful rendition of the traction motors.

And as regards the Class 166, yes they are sluggish IRL. I remember when GWR transferred the first batch to Bristol for local services. They lost time hand over fist on the Severn Beach line, with the shortly spaced station stops, to the point where we were constantly having to run trains fast, turn round short or even knock out complete round trips to recover the service.

For some odd reason the thread showed in the top of my unread threads list. I honestly did not see the date!
