I think the Highland mainline in the BR era would sell well, more freight, light loco movements, shunting at Inverness and Perth. If they were to do the HML, BR would be the best bet.

I agree. It's very scenic and, if set back to BR days, would be reasonably busy and diverse ( and loco hauled ).

    Probably day 1 for me.

have been looking at RTT, on the highland main line there was 38 service total in 24 hours today. why would a developer create a 118 mile route for a 38 trains a day timetable. in comparison north wales coast offers a 105 mile route with 102 services in 24 hours. common logic if you were a developer looking at ether you would go north wales.

at the other end of that logic, Carlisle Glasgow is too much for JT to do. especially in the 80s. there a lot of reasons why, just put a developers hat on for 2 mins and think about it from scratch what would be involved.

id love to see all three of the above in TSW and people with their own tastes enjoying them. but just trying to put a realistic spin on things whilst giving a little feed back from my own experiences. i think (and Hope) JT will stick with the 80s BR era, where who knows but im sure they will come up with another cracking route

In the end if only busy but not super busy routes that leaves a lot of routes untouched. 38 Trains May not sound like a lot but its several hours for each one, WCML North takes a while too and many IC runs are identical. We seem to be heading down a path of Goblin style routes short with loads of stops being the norm. Hundreds of identical schedules. Would be good to break the cycle and see how players get on with 16 Vehicles on the back of a pair of 37s Up Drumochter or a Knackered 47 on a similar length train. Some sort of challenge would be good!!

couldn't agree more that having more of a challenging drive would be good especially with freight. that's why id love to see woodhead come into the game and a revamped NTP

Inverness was an odd location as you had bursts of furious activity, followed by two or three hours of not much happening. If you play the SIAM 1970 or 1981 Traffic Control simulations that becomes evident. Likewise Milburn Yard -a steady trickle of freight overnight, then most of the traffic to the North Lines comes out in the morning by around 1000 then there’s a lull until around 1600 when the trains come back into the Up Yard then formed up into the evening southbound departures. However a Highland Main Line from Perth to Inverness would be no worse timetable wise than Mittenwaldbahn. Certainly a more viable option than the West Highland, much as I would like to see that in TSW.

In fact, as I’ve proposed before, a network hub based on Inverness and extending to (say), Aviemore*, Nairn and Invergordon would give you traffic on all three of the radiating lines so no shortage of timetable options. And not forgetting the 08 on the Harbour branch.

    * Though equally I’d like to slog the above mentioned knackered Duff or a pair of 26’s all the way from Inverness to Perth and vv.
