Yeah, it was quite mediocre. Scenery quality was awful, way too few scenarios and some of them simply didn't even work, lol.

But at least we know the scenery will be good for this one, lol

Well, it's using the old European Assets pack for most of things there (once I didn't have the European pack installed, but only the GE EA Scenery pack and the scenery on the route was mostly empty, just terrain & tracks and some of buildings, with no trees & foliage or other detailing, and I think at least some of bridges were missing, too, making the track floating in air in places).

Yeah, but I wonder why that is. Previously they made some beautiful routes using their own foliage assets, like the Forest Rail, Wakayama and Hidaka. Then the Tadami Line and Tohoku Line switched styles completely and they look horrible.

Yes I had one where the station stop wouldn’t register to press T and open the doors, which effectively failed the scenario.

From the October 2024 roadmap article.

"Experience the beautiful and scenic Tadami Line: AizuWakamatsu – Tadami in TSW5, featuring stunning environments and key railway landmarks, such as the “Miyashita three brothers”, a famous train spotting point featuring three bridges within a single picturesque scene."

A great perspective. I really love the flowers.

Here is a real life comparison:

Would've been nice to get new screenshots. I believe we've already seen this one last time.

At this point it would be nice to see scenes with the train in it, even a video clip.

I don't think the train is in the game yet. The most recent render of the KiHa 40 we have seems far from complete. Inaccurate at places and no interior yet.

Which is why sadly, I fear this is a long way off release and, along with the Class 104, it's joined my list of promised DLC that I start to doubt will ever see the light of day.

Well I'd assume the route scenery itself is mostly finished now, because the preview screenshots look pretty good. We don't know the situation with the signalling and the safety systems, but once those and the train is finished, it's not like the timetable is going to need much work, lol. So I'd say next year release is likely, knowing their pace.

If you've followed all the 3rd parties in tsw, their first route takes a really long time. It's not easy to create dlc for a brand new team who's never used unreal engine before.

Since UW is developing KiHa 40 for Tadami Line, i think it's set sometime before July, 2011 ( the same as TSC version), when heavy rain washed away some bridges on Tadami line and damaged its tracks, resulting in the suspension of service on between Aizu-Kawaguchi (ja 会津川口) and Tadami(ja 只見).
A bridge on Tadami Line after 2011 heavy rain
After that, discussions were held between local governments, which wanted to fully restore the railway, and JR East, which wanted to switch to bus services. After six years of discussions, both parties agreed to restore the Tadami Line and it reopened on October 1, 2022. But before its fully restore, the famous Kiha 40 retired on July 2020.[IMG]

Since UW is unlikely to get license from JR East, the KiHa 40 in TSW would be unbranded just like 484 in IOW 2022 and recent 350 in WCMLS. Hope that Kiha 40 in game would have a good model, sound and physics. After all, KiHa 40 is one of the most famous DMU in Japan, and it is very popular among railfans.

Yeah, the KiHa 40 will be great for making all kind of liveries. Such an iconic train, good choice as the first japanese rolling stock.

Also, hopefully this route and the official japanese localization coming up will get some more japanese fans into TSW.

Great News ! We have more informations about the Tadami Line and when it will be set ! It will be set before 2011, so before the flood destroyed some parts of the lines. KiHa 40' fans rejoice ! Union Workshop just confirmed it on Twitter along 3 others very nice screenshots : Capture d’écran 2024-10-13 à 14.15.11.png

One thing I'm wondering is if or when they'll make Japanese traffic and pedestrians, so far they have been non existent in shots.

UW posted new screenshots on X, and those screenshots show three stations on Tadami Line, the Aizu-Yokota Station (ja:会津横田駅) and Aizu-Ōshio Station (ja:会津大塩駅) located in Kaneyama, Fukushima (ja: 福島県金山町), the Aizu-Shiozawa Station (ja:会津塩沢駅) in Tadami, Fukushima (ja: 福島県只見町), and here are what they look like irl.

Aizu-Ōshio Station, you can the grass grow onto the tracks (it's common among rural routes in Japan)

The all three stations itself are well-modeled and looks awesome, I can't wait to see the final product.
    Dams among the route
We can sees some dams on the Tadami River among the route, like the Honna Dam (ja:本名ダム) near the Honna Station (ja:本名駅).

While grass looks great as is, I'm hoping trees can be rotated with a different angles when the same models are standing one next to another.

Simply beautiful. Lush vegetation, bright lovely colors.

Reminds me of seeing their first TSC routes (Forest Rail and Wakayama Line) for the first time, thinking "this game can look this nice?".

If those are in game screenshots, how come they look so much more realistic and lifelike than the rest of the current game, even BPO?! Seems UW may have mastered getting the best out of UE4. Though at what price performance wise will that super sharp detail come at?

And I still want to see (and hear) the actual train running through it…

    They are not:

    Screenshot 2024-10-14 at 09-30-07 File Aizu-yokota sta.jpg - Wikipedia.png

    As per the OP:

Emphasis mine. To be fair, it is very easy to miss, and why they didn't at least link to the X Posts is beyond me...

The complaint about the trees in a real life photo all using the same model and not being rotated differently is very funny though.

Well, that comment was a reply to a post from before real life photos were shared, which related to the screenshots shared on the "site previously known as Twitter".

After clicking on Spoiler in that post you can see how the some trees look almost identical, but using only different scales.

Probably just the UW logo. I doubt they can get a JR licence - but it would be fun to know if they even tried.

It would be interesting if someone from DTG could give us insight on how these happen, or if they tried contacting JR maybe?

Fortunately, with Livery Editor, the JR logo is very simple to produce. At this point, I've made a JR-based livery for many locomotives and rolling stock that I enjoy driving in the game (mainly US, with the addition of the Class 801).

But of course, we do have to hope that UWs stock is livery designer compatible, and not broken on release.

A-Train 6 on the Playstation 2 was the last time I saw the KiHa 40 in a game. Even with the old outdated graphics of PS2 these trains look the part.

I really hope we don’t have to wait much longer for this route, but it’s still slightly worrying we haven’t seen hide nor hair of the actual train in an in game screenshot as yet.

The first screenshot looks like the Aizu-Kawaguchi Station but there are some differents exists.
    Aizu-Kawaguchi Station irl

From that screenshot we also know that Union Workshop doesn't get license from East Japan Railway Company (JR East), the company that operated the Tadani line, so they would use UR instead of JR just like what they have done in TSC. It's a little disappointing that they couldn't get license from JR East, but I think community-made mods can slove this problem.
Kiha 40 on Tadami line, the JR on the train would be replaced by UR.

Remember it took jt really long to create their first route. Considering this route is really detailed, it's to be a while

This was evident since TSC, I doubt them moving to TSW would make the JR groups change their mind for licensing.

Because it's not finished yet. The only render we've seen of it so far was slightly inaccurate and also lacked any interior. So it's safe to assume there was still further modelling to be done and also setting up the whole simulation in the game engine.

The route screenshots we are getting are also always tagged as "work log", so assumably the route is still in scenery building stage and they are simply showing off progress as they go.

Maybe. But I shall remain sceptical until I actually see the train running in game. The trains were (are) the weak point of UW in their TSC routes, with rather poor sounds and physics.

Yes - I believe in the TSC Tadami Line they made the common mistake of thinking the KiHa 40 is diesel-mechanical instead of diesel-hydraulic (the "gear lever" actually enables or disables the torque converter).

On Dec 10th Reveal, UW shared more screenshot about the upcoming Tadami line, and those screenshots look promising.

One of the srceenshots provided by UW is the Third Tadami River Bridge (ja:第三只見川橋梁), located in Mishima Town, Fukushima Prefecture (ja:福島県三島町), it's famous in Japan and becomes a popular photo spot for railroad enthusiasts. In 2021, it was recognized as one of the 17 facilities in the "Tadami Line Railway Facilities Group" as a civil engineering heritage site selected by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.

    Trivia: A closed station
    [IMG]

On this screenshot, we can find a station named "田子倉" or Tagokura, a so called "秘境駅"( means the station that are little used and isolated) closed in March, 2013 due to low passenger useage ( close a station with low passenger usage in common in Japan). However, the Tadami line in game is set before 2011 which Tagokura station was still open.

As I said in the other thread, not really sure why this little update counted as a “reveal”, other than confirming the train. Surely it must be close enough to release that we could get a bit of video footage. That would go a long way towards convincing Doubting Thomas’s like me the whole thing isn’t at best stuck in development hell or at worst vapourware.

Better to be a pleased pessimist than a disappointed optimist in my experience.

Anyhow I do hope the route is coming and likely to be Day One for me regardless. As a long time fan of Densha De Go (all versions from original to Final), SL de Ikou and some of the remarkable Japanese routes in BVE I am longing to get something for TSW. Heck I even started buying into the JR Train Sims from Ongakukan which use the video clip, just the price and HD footprint that put me off buying more.

Reveal of new information. Not everyone follows tsw regularly or don't have socials so it's a new reveal to them. It's updates to us but it's still a reveal of some sort.
