I think I've been seeing this a bit more recently on both consoles too. Sometimes (usually seems to be when driving into intensive areas) all the fine details in the cab (like the small lettering and labels next to gauges and switches) becomes blurry/unreadable. Even worse when you zoom the camera in. Then randomly it will just pop back to better quality a few minutes later.
Playing TSW4 on both the PS5 and Series X, I can confirm that the audio is funky at time on the Series X. It sounds distorted to me on certain locos, not that 100% crisp sound I get on my PS5. Another thing I hate about the Series X version is the vibration for the controller. When you go over a junction my controller vibrates like an electric toothbrush. The dual sense is far superior. I know not every one cares about vibration, but for me it adds extra immersion.
Having just made the switch from XSX to PC, I can only say that the sound is really impressive, whereas on Xbox it didn’t elevate the experience for me. I wouldn’t recommend the Xbox version in its current state in any case, as explained in this thread, which contains explanations from JD and Matt: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/psa-a-dire-lack-of-mountains-on-xsx.79884/
Yea I agree, as a long term Xbox player (who probably won’t switch, though I may get a pc at some point), anyone looking to purchase TSW I would recommend a good PC then PlayStation as the best options if you can.
I mainly play on PS5, although more recently on PC, but when TSW4 came to Game Pass I thought I would give the Xbox version a go, the controller vibration is ridiculous, compared to the gentle ripple experinced on the PS5's DualSense the Xbox controller is an immersion destroying thunderstorm. On the graphics side, the pop in shadowing of trees is much more pronounced on Xbox, with trees appearing almost see-through before the shadows get drawn in. On the original subject of sounds, use the external camera to sit alongside a fast travelling Azuma and you will experience some weird effects, the only way I can really describe them is the dial-up sound of either a fax machine or modem - for younger readers ask your parents to do an impression of a dial-up modem, you'll hopefully get a laugh at least. The person asking whether to upgrade their PC or get an Xbox, definitely look at upgrading your PC, if nothing else you will be able to take advantage of the numerous mods which improve the visuals in the game.
Im pretty certain there’s an in game setting specific for junctions to turn that off, I think it’s just not off by default.
Yeah there is, but it’s poorly optimised. For example, setting the vibration to like 10% feels like it’s at 50% or higher still. I was thinking about buying an elite controller, but I read the vibration isn’t much better.
