JetWash, the gradient was there before this update. My question on this new HuD, what is that red icon in the right end of the upper left and comes and goes. It is annoying to me.
It was, you’re right. I was dragged out of my bed at 0230 this morning, it’s been a long day. I’d still like the option to remove it please.
Hi Matt, Would it be possible to separate the speedometer and the accelerometer as well? The speed I can get from the gauge in the cab, but the accelerometer I find very useful Right now both disappear when I toggle the speedometer.
The best thing about this red interlock thing is when you resume a saved game it’s just there permanently. Back of the net.
So after I finished my walk (which ended up being over 11 kilometers long!) I sat down and booted up the game with the new patch installed. And I gotta say, great job team! But I also have some bug reports and constructive feedback for you. Tagging DTG Matt, DTG Alex and DTG JD in hopes of getting this feedback to the devs. Positives: The speed display is implemented beautifully, along with the updated speed limit icon. Readability is great, but it’s not “in your face”, so you can still ignore it and focus on the in-cab speedo from time to time if that’s what you desire. There are nice additions I didn’t even know I needed, like the distance display (which may allow me to turn off the big blue objective marker eventually) and accelerometer (which is actually much better designed and readable than the original accelerometer in the classic HUD). The new track monitor has much better readability (I can see that some icons and numbers were resized/replaced), and thankfully the weird effect that made approaching speed limits glow read and nearly unreadable in certain conditions is gone, too! I like that I can now see platforms on the monitor as well, as a reminder that a station is coming up even when I’m not stopping there. Neutral: But the dynamic scaling of the Track Monitor is a bit hit or miss for me… great when you’re driving quickly because you can see so far ahead, but makes it very hard to judge distances to the stopping point and signals while braking. Would love a toggle for that, which would also be a nice way to allow us to set the scale we want (Track Monitor Dynamic Scaling: ON; OFF 1mi; OFF 2mi; etc.). The huge DISTANCE text on top of the track monitor could be removed, or at least be made as transparent as the rest of the track monitor. It’s sometimes hard to discern signal locations from speed limit locations on the Track Monitor if they’re close together. It seems like the logic putting some of them on top and others below the white line doesn’t work as well anymore. Not sure if that feature made it into the patch, but I’m unable to see any objective/stopping markers on the Track Monitor. Negatives: The big red traction lock pop up definitely needs an on/off setting (already coming in one of the next updates I believe). Bug: The aforementioned traction lock HUD element stays on the mini HUD permanently when reloading a save. Taking over a random AI service and going back to your own service immediately after seems to resolve this, but is obviously a very time-consuming workaround. Major issue: Contrary to the previous version of the Track Monitor, the distance to signals is now represented incorrectly. If you’re standing right in front of a signal, there’s still quite a bit of “track” left next to the train icon in the track monitor, creating the illusion of being 30-50 meters away from the signal. Quite a huge problem if you’re at a big station and don’t know which of the many signals apply to your train (this caused a SPAD for me at Three Bridges earlier). I have noticed the same issue with speed limits. Please revert to the previous functionality where the signal in the track monitor “touched” the little white train icon right as you were crossing the real signal with your actual train. Description for the image below: I’m standing right in front of the red signal at Three Bridges, but the Track Monitor creates the illusion that it’s much further away from my train. Note: All of this was observed and tested on London Commuter on my PS5.
In the settings, what does “Minimal HUD Objective Distance” mean? I have it set at “4” but I can’t tell a difference.
First off, very nice and informative write up - Thank you for taking the time to test and provide this information. The only comment I have is on the bug you and others have reported on the traction lock. I was running a scenario on MML ( the White Out scenario ) but had to save because of real life … shut down TSW. When I resumed later, fully expecting the traction lock icon to be present, it wasn’t and worked as before the save. So it doesn’t seem to be persistent bug. Again , a great informative write up on your part.
It’s the vertical “barber shop” bar in the upper left of the mini HUD that counts down the distance to the next objective, I believe. The previous standard scale for the full bar was 1km, now you can change things up a bit by choosing your own scale (higher numbers would be recommended for high speed services where you need to start braking a lot more than 1km before a station stop).
DTG Matt on ps5 the HUD still resets to 'normal' between game sessions. This was supposed to be fixed. Is this going to be sorted soon?
Haven’t had time to try it yet, but are you able to disable the signal aspect on the hud? I loved the minimal hud because it was “minimal”. I don’t like to know what aspect the signal 1km away is. I like to look out of the window and read the signals.
I didn't care for the Minimal HUD to start with, but DTG have done a great job with the improvements and I think it's pretty good now. I like to drive with as little HUD as possible and use the in-world gauges, signals and signage instead, so I'd endorse what others have said about adding the ability to turn off the speed limit and gradient (and yes, the traction lock) for those of us who don't want them. Since I use a fairly large screen, could I add a request for options to make the HUD scaleable and moveable as well, please? Having tinkered with the scale in the engine.ini file, about 75% of the current size and in the top middle of the screen would be ideal for me.
Where's the option to disable signal positions on the track monitor? Oddly, signal positions are hidden with the speed limit HUD on, but not with the speed limit HUD off...
Whats’s this garish bright red ( interlock ?) icon in the minimal HUD that cannot be turned off? I despise it, and it totally ruins the game, especially at night
In the 323 for example, it will release when the doors are locked. In the 158 it’ll only apply when your in step 2 or 3 of braking and the doors are open. Traction interlock isn't anything new, it was previously displayed as a red box around the throttle/ brake indicator on the normal HUD, it's on multiple trains.
Traction interlock in mini hud? Who need sidewheels on mini hud? Every tsw update bring a pinch of salt...
Is anyone else still experiencing their hud options not saving even though I swear they said they fixed it because now everytime I laod the game I have to keep changing my hud settings, and it's not even hud it's any sort of setting at this point even my graphic settings. I'm on PS5 so I think the whole the PS settings need fixing where it actually saves for good.
Yep. I'm on ps5 and it hasn't been fixed. They're aware, Matt P confirmed it. Seems to be a ps5 only issue now
Minimal HUD: Finally got colours on the accelerometer! Why can't we have that on the normal/simple HUD types too? The icon for open/close doors could be flipped horizontally to show (via the little man) which side the doors are open. It's not intrusive and wouldn't take any extra room either. Track Monitor: The speed numbers used to turn red as they got closer but don't do that anymore. Has this been turned off or am I missing a setting somewhere? Also with the signal lights on the monitor, it is not quite as accurate as it was before when you pass them on the track. Simple HUD: I welcome the fix from 100 to 200mph but would be better if it could 'auto range' depending on what loco you are driving. Also when using just the simple HUD there is no way to see the gradient. Could a simple gradient line be added to this somewhere?
Regarding it not turning red as you got closer to the speed limits, there was feedback saying that it made it hard to see so dtg seems to have patched it out
Is it possible we could have the time show on the HUD (F1 key) when on foot? I spend most of my time on foot and as passenger but you lose the time and not all stations have clocks.
I would like control over opacity (HUD and monitor). Perhaps more controversially, I would also like to be able to put them at the bottom of the screen rather than at the top. Why? Because when you're driving, you are either looking ahead or looking down at gauges, but rarely up.
That’s what I was thinking when trying out the new mini HUD and why I always go back to the old one at the bottom right.
Actually, being able to stack them, e.g. minimal HUD over track monitor, might (also) be useful because it would require less eye movement to establish general situational awareness. That could be an option for bottom right because it would probably be replacing the old HUD anyway.
I hadn't thought of controlling opacity - that's a great idea. I completely agree about repositioning, and I'd also like to be able to resize them as well.
These are some great improvements- I find the new HUD usable now (I have to play without upscaling, so my resolution ordinarily doesn't allow me to read in-cab instruments without zooming in). However, one suggestion which has been discussed hasn't been made- including stations on the scrolling track monitor. I would find this very useful (if for no other reason than knowing whether a signal is coming up before or after the platform.....)
Is there currently any way to turn off the dynamic scaling of the track monitor? It´s really confusing to me, I´d love to have it back at its fixed distance. Also one suggestion for further improvements: A preview in the settings, so the player can immediately see the changes made to the hud, its a bit annoying having to switch between the settings and the game to see the changes
Yeah, but whats speaking against having a dynamic and a static option? You could even have a slider to adjust the static distance...
No, the dynamic one automatically adjusts, thats NOT what I want at all. I want it to be always on a specific distance, regardless of the speed I´m going. If there was a dynamic option that adjusts automatically AND a static option (maybe with a slider where I can adjust the static distance from like 0.5 mi to 4 mi), then it would really fit almost everyones needs.
Doesn’t seem to work always. Had a go on Clinchfield and the the big red thingy stayed even while I was well underway.
