Thomas The Tank Engine Discussion Thread

For those who want the history of the locos the characters are based on

 

And that’s another fact that’s being overlooked. It’s not entirely unrealistic on WSR. They’ve painted locos like Thomas and stuck a face on them and run Thomas Experience Days in the past. I did a google image search. They look quite fun.

 

It will be unrealistic though if it uses toy train physics. It’s just DTG being cheap and cutting corners, rather than going to the trouble of building a custom route or layout for it.

 

It's as realistic as a railtour or "steam days" on the WSR.

 

I expect it to have a 2 button Combined accelerate/brake controller and not much more

 

Yes a talking train has to be anatomically and physically correct....

Since this DLC will be "story driven", could that mean we get voiced dialogue for the first time, rather than just reading a text box while the NPC stands there mute?

 

Wonder if Thomas will get his own “junior” sub forum once the content goes live? (Whenever that might actually be).

For one thing, and maybe this is a slightly dark thought for the Sunday before Christmas, the introduction of Thomas bound to bring many younger people (aka children) taking out and using forum membership. The moderators will need to be extra vigilant that the wrong type of people (i.e. paedos ) don’t take advantage of that and attempt to groom the kids for their nefarious purposes. For starters, the part time, lackadaisical moderation at weekends will need to be tightened up. Thoughts, DTG Alex and dtg_jan ?

 

Before you even get to the dark stuff like that, some of the arguments and attitudes on this forum would need dialling back as not to hurt younger users. You wouldn't think some users on here are fully-grown adults after all the tantrums here the past few days. Their views on the Thomas DLC aren't invalid, but the way people have aggressively tried to put their opinions across just makes their views fall flat. It's not the end of the (Train Sim) World!

 

The rules already cover just about anything a kid would come across. There's already no swearing, no sex, etc.

 

I mean, Marvel and DC have been doing that since the Silver Age.

Devs appear in cameos all the time in games, so it'd be fitting.
He can voice the character easily =-)
Maybe Harry and Alex can get roles too.

I kinda want the "voice of the forum" to be heard from "Cranky the Crane" though.
Because Cranky just sounds like the type of character most of us would be similar to.

 

I just want to see Matt do the preview stream in full costume now.

I'd have him play off of a "Cranky" character who keeps griping about Thomas all the time so he can answer the forum criticism in a lighthearted way.

For the record it's Brussels Sprouts.

And I love 'em. Give me a plate of Brussels Sprouts, broccoli and lima beans and I'll be in 7th Heaven. ( I'll also be eating alone ).

 

I’m more of an asparagus on the side of a ribeye kind of guy. Sometimes I even eat a few, but I always cut off the funny looking tips

 

As this has now become a Brussels Sprout thread, I will also declare my fondness for said vegetables.

Some people take it too far though. An ex boss once made a sprout vindaloo for Boxing Day dinner. Tasty but didn’t enjoy the after effects.

To stay on topic I like them a lot more than I like Thomas.

 

Me and Green food is like Thomas and his snowplough: we both hate it.

 

The old GWE scenarios had voice overs to them which I actually really enjoyed listening too! Made them really immersive. So it'd be nice if that's something they could work on!

Although apparently with how much scenarios change through development voice overs aren't easy

 

My dad once told me that his definition of a nanosecond was the amount of time a test Brussels sprout stayed in my mouth as a baby. He said I got good distance, too.

 

You do know a cup of hot gravy makes anything taste better. Especially those mini grenades.

I do hate a dry dinner though.
