12th April is a Tuesday, that's pretty early for a release, normally on Thursdays but hey, we'll take it because it's Norfolk Southern, why not?

I am excited to finally get an ES44, really hope they've done justice on the sounds

    Couple things I've noticed here...
Seem's they've just recycled the IFDs from the AC4400 with the same basic functionality.
    vs. real ES44
    upload_2022-4-5_14-3-5.png

They look somewhat similar, but have some pretty distinct differences. Even the SD70ACe got an updated screen (which is good since EMD's is different), but even if it wasn't fully functional still had the placeholders for other things that made it feel more complete. Both Skyhook and DTG here decided "we've done enough, we'll just copy the AC4400 screen over and it's good enough, no one will notice." So much for recreating authenticity and realism...

Also, it seems like the kearning of the numbers on the numberplates of the ES44 is too large:

Wow! This is really looking good! I can't wait to try this route!
Look at the sign. It is actually the real sign.

It is already available for pre-order in Steam at the usual 10% off.

    Looking interesting.
The first thing I noticed was not the locos, nor the wagons or scenery, it was the rail fan cameo.
Like the one on SPG a couple are wearing exactly the same outfits.
    Smacks of inattention to detail.

    Needs a Baldwin centipede though.

Will we have for gen 8 consoles 40 car trains only like at SMH and CRR?

The route overall looks pretty good, but I have two major notes:
    - Why is it with Skyhook being afraid of putting anything within 5 meters of tracks most of the time? There are absolutely no trackside assets around, it is barren and suddenly further away assets start appearing. Was the same most of the time on Cane Creek apart for about two miles. It looks really bad to run down this flat area. Put old rails there, rubbish, defect detectors, something!

    - 75 services? On some routes that would be decent... but that's all split between a three-track mainline, branch line, yard, and (they're in the game right?) loco shops. And hopefully, it's not like with SMH where most of the trains are 2 parts, therefore the realistic number gets even lower. This route is like made for BUSY freight action, overtakes, etc. Hopefully, this will be captured, but the number doesn't get my hopes up a whole lot. Maybe there are gaps for layers though, who knows.

8 cars, 2 locos, almost 100 km of track, NS introduced, nice. The biggest ? is the GEVO sounds.

I have to admit that I don’t usually bother with American freight routes, which bore me rigid but this looks right good, I might be tempted in order to play in Off The Rails mode.

Yeah that's something I noticed as well. Pretty off putting, to be honest. I mean just look at the first screenshot, it looks like an unfinished route!

Bare terrain is the ugliest part of Train Sim World, yet it is what we are supposed to see the closes to the tracks? I could somewhat understand it in Cane Creek, thinking it's a bare deserty place, but in the middle of the forest? If I were to get the route, I would find this very annoying, even though the route looks good overall, judging by the screenshots.

On a more positive note, the train spotters at the curve and the loco on display are a very nice touch (even if the loco is the wrong way around).

I'm sure Rivet would've added trackside vegetation, even tree stumps... All the route needs is a bit of West Cornwall vibe.

At least there's little risk of tree branches clipping through the cab

Absolutely loving the progress they made. Even though I grumbled and whined about how long it was taking to release, I see it was definately worth the wait. Being a local of the route, I can attest to its accuracy just from the screenshots so far. I even love the tiny details, like the PTC display in the ES44AC displaying the accurate screen they do IRL when cut out, and the "train spotting guide" sign at the curve itself actually being the real life sign. The only thing I'm mildly concerned about is sounds, although since they asked the community, I think it'll turn out to be a home run.

Hopefully the funicular at the Horseshoe Curve park itself actually works and is rideable, that would complete the railfanning experience for me ;)

Horseshoe Curve on TS20XX was the first route DLC I ever bought, and the most played since. Seeing the route as it is today really grabbed my attention, as I have never seen any footage of it outside the TS20XX route. I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Except that the NS version has the headlight on the top of the cab, as opposed to on the nose.

Thank you for telling me about that because most American railroad magazines never mentioned that for some unknown reason. How about the Screen for DPU Brakes is it still the same.

Highly unlikely. DTG likely haven't implemented the tech for proper DPU simulation since Sherman Hill amid all the other issues they're trying to dig themselves out of (and this probably is Simugraph related, so Skyhook probably couldn't do it on their own). Also, as I posted above, they copied the super basic screens from the AC4400 into ES44, which doesn't even have the placeholders for DPU info, unlike the IFD in the SD70ACe

Simulating full DPU operation with fencing would be a massive job, not one to be undertaken lightly or in a brief timeframe.

Well a lot of hype there. Still will wait for final judjment before even thinking about wallet use.
Still I wish it to be a great freight route.

Dlc has 8 scenarios according to steam description and 5 ones according to Gary's article. What information is correct?

Usually every route comes with 5 scenarios, I believe. It would be weird if this one has 8, but it would be a nice surprise!

If it’s modelled it will probably be at most a scenery item akin to the Schwebebahn on RRO

That may have been a slip, indicating a planned loco DLC, since those typically come with three scenarios.

It might be that the route introduction and tutorial scenarios have been included in this count. They are simply just special case scenarios after all.

So, per this, there is still at least 2-3 pieces of rollingstock not yet shown in any of the preview images.

The Mill Gondola and the Ballast Hopper are 2 that haven't been shown in any screenshot AFAIK.

The TOFC flatcar, is a bit confusing.

We did get this flatcar in the 1st preview images, however, that isn't a TOFC flat car, its looks like a standard 60ft or 85/89ft flat car. In modern times most if not all TOFC traffic is carried on either 53ft 5-Unit or 57ft 3-Unit Spine cars, with a few trailers sometimes in multipurpose well cars. And most if not all 89ft flat cars are no longer used in TOFC service, AFAIK.

I don't see any reason why skyhook couldn't layer in csx or union pacific lead trains. They both also use the route.

Cane Creek has 12 scenarios and the last DTG's routes have six ones. It's looks like they moved away from "five scenarios" standard

Nothing wrong with free roam scenarios, not many routes currently have them,It nice to be able to just drive around on a nicely sized section of a route and not be overloaded by endless redlights.

How annoying would I be if I corrected you by telling you that it’s actually the hoppers from Cane Creek?

Wouldn't matter anyways, it's still the same 2-bay ballast hopper. Not to mention, the same hopper from Cane Creek is very identical to the Peninsula Corridor version (meaning Skyhook took the same model from DTG to fit the route, more or less).

Just a quick note while watching the HSC preview it looks like the GP9 now facing the right way.at least on PC.But it's a DEV2 build, hopefully that a sign the final will get this fix.

There's 2 new cars the gondola car and a flat car which was taken from the NEC and modify abit for this route.Hmmm interesting how bits and pieces of NEC are finding there back into TSW2.

Wonder if will see the AM fleet cab car again?

Tourist railfans who can't hold a camera.

Well atleast there is a road now.

And the couplers are the right height between loco and cars,i guess that something.
