Adding to my previous comment, here is a good video which you can clearly audibly hear the different motor phrases as the train gains speed.

Listen in particular from 01:55 onwards. As the train speeds up, you can hear the motor go through a different phase, heard at 02:13. This is what we are missing in TSW from the 377. As we only have that very basic acceleration sound, regardless of the speed and/or power applied.

I believe it is something to do with the Gate turn-off thyristor (GTO) although don't ask me what that is or means :D

I hope more variations in motor sounds have been added to the 375, as it would certainly make it a lot more fun and interesting to drive.

From that video, the DTG motor sounds aren't even close to how it is in real life. Almost seems like there are missing entire sound files on the 377.

Not just the 377, but many other trains too. I wonder if they actually go out to get the sounds, or if they recreate them in-house. Or if they just don't use certain files.

I think the 375's will go to Gravesend or Northfleet . In this WIP pic , train on left is departing Rochester going towards bridge and Strood and other one is coming into the station . But i would hope for atleast a Sheerness branch as well

Unfortunately we just have that one, rather sterile ‘whine’ of the motors and that’s it. It’s not just the recordings, but the mixing (set up) of the sounds which has involvement too.

That initial ‘whine’ sound of the motors as you depart is far too abrupt, flat/mono sounding and loud. In real life it gradually gets louder, as well as sounds more ‘surround’. There are also several other motor and electronic sounds heard.

This video is a good example of how it should sound upon departure.

Do any German high speed trains run into England or is it just Thayls and Eurostar? That'd be cool to have high speed London to Germany services.

There were plans to but they were shelved, an ICE 3M did make it to St Pancras in 2010 however, so it wouldn’t be completely unrealistic to throw one into a custom scenario.

Traction motor sounds will be synthesised so that they match the acceleration rate that you drive at. You can’t do that as well with a recording. It’s also very difficult to isolate a traction motor sound from all the other sounds that are going on in close proximity to it when making a recording (track noise etc.). Recordings are used as reference for synthesising the sounds. They’ve talked about this in the live streams. That’s how they do it.

I don't remember hearing them say that in the streams, but thanks for sharing that information. I really hope with future Rolling Stock, and maybe some previous ones, they can improve upon the way they synthesize the Traction Motor sounds.

I'm sure, but that's not "on this section of the route"

DB intended to, and ordered the trainsets (which needed to comply with UK loading gauge as well as electrics, and with Chunnel regs), but they were delayed and delayed again, and for that reason and some others doing with cost/revenue projections, DB pulled the plug on it for now.

The following is the writeup from German Wikipedia, in English via Google Translate so not exactly Shakespeare, but you can get the gist:

In October 2010, Deutsche Bahn presented one of its ICE 3 trains at London's St Pancras station and announced that it would open a direct train connection from Frankfurt via Cologne through the Eurotunnel to London from the end of 2013, using trains of the new ICE type 407. [74] [75] For this purpose, a line with three daily train pairs between Frankfurt and London, via Cologne, Brussels and Lille, was to be set up. Another line branch was planned between Amsterdam and London, via Rotterdam and Brussels. [75] The trains coming from Germany and the Netherlands were supposed to be connected or separated at the Brussels Midi station [76] and to travel in a train to London (and vice versa). [77] According to DB information, stops in Ebbsfleet and Ashford are conceivable. Stops in Aachen and Liège were considered for a later date. [76]

The company wanted to set up the security areas necessary for operations at the train stations in Frankfurt, Cologne, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. [77] In addition, there were considerations to develop an alternative to stationary security checks for less frequented stops. [78] A reservation requirement was provided. [76] It was planned that departures from London should take place in the morning, at noon and in the afternoon. [76] A travel time of around five hours between Frankfurt and London and just under four hours between Cologne and London was estimated. It should be less than four hours between London and Amsterdam. [75] Initially, six hours were estimated between London and Cologne; travel time was reduced through cross-border optimization. [79] The start of operations between Frankfurt and London was examined for 2012 (as of October 2010). [77]

The use in the Eurotunnel and on the subsequent High Speed One was already taken into account in the design phase of the trains. [80] For use in the Eurotunnel, similar to the Velaro RUS, systems for fire detection and fighting are installed in the underfloor area. In addition, the installation of additional special external doors is optionally possible. [80] Siemens assumes that a 16-car series 407 train with appropriate fire fighting systems could meet the requirements. For operation through the tunnel, however, the requirement that existed in 2010, according to which passenger trains in the Eurotunnel must have a continuous length of at least 375 m (distance between the cross tunnels), would have to be changed. It was assumed that the Deutsche Bahn is aiming for approval of 200-meter trains in the tunnel by means of appropriate safety certificates. [81] A change in the safety rules was initiated in 2010 due to the order for Velaro trains of the Eurostar 320 type by the transport company Eurostar International. In March 2011, the European Railway Agency (ERA) approved the proposals of the IGC Tunnel Safety Commission to allow trains with distributed propulsion - like the Velaro from Siemens - to pass through the tunnel. [82] After the IGC declared this to be the official guideline in June 2010, on July 12, 2011, Deutsche Bahn applied to the IGC Tunnel Safety Commission for approval of ICE trains for the Channel Tunnel. A safety study was also submitted for this purpose. A second expert also carried out evacuation simulations in which, among other things, Evacuation tests in the Eurotunnel from October 2010 [83] have been received. [84] [85] The railway expected approval for February 2012, [86] it was granted by the IGC in June 2013. [87]

At the beginning of 2013, Deutsche Bahn expected that traffic to London would not be able to start until after 2016. [88] The company blames the manufacturer for the delays. He emphasized that the changes necessary for Great Britain traffic had not yet been commissioned. [86] A retrofit for London traffic has been requested, according to the railway, but Siemens has not received an offer (as of February 2014). According to a press report, the upgrade will not be completed before 2016. It is as good as impossible that traffic through the Eurotunnel could be started in December 2018 (as of February 2014). [57] According to a report published in February 2014, the project will no longer be pursued. The causes are technical problems and excessive route costs in the French section. [89] According to another report, the profitability calculation of the project was completely unrealistic. Among other things, not even expenses for a maintenance base in London were taken into account. [54] In 2017, Deutsche Bahn continued to plan to take up traffic to London in the medium term. [90]

In 2018, however, the company announced that it would not offer any services to London for the foreseeable future. As justification, the company cited the pending Belgium approval and the changed economic environment due to low-cost airlines. [91]

Usually we have seen a first reveal stream come exactly the week before it release (at least thats how it worked with LGV and Munchen-Augsburg) so we should see the reveal stream either on the 21st or the 28th with it releasing the following Thursday. We'll probably also get an article or two about the development of the route/locos (or both together)

Why cannot we have the Southeastern high-speed internet internet 3-weeks or 2 weeks and why can't we have the Southeastern high-speed ever go all the way up to to Ramsgate

Only 28 days in Julian February too.....

tallboy7648, the Julian calendar was the calendar used in Europe and the rest of the Roman Empire from the time Julius Caesar instituted it until it was replaced during the Renaissance by the modern Gregorian calendar, which was proclaimed by the Pope (named Gregory, natch) and adopted in Catholic countries, with western Protestant countries joining in one by one until Britain and her colonies finally made the switch in 1752. The Eastern Orthodox world never made the change (until effectively forced to join the rest of the world in the 20th Century), which is why Greek and Russian holidays like Christmas fall on different days to ours, and why the Bolshevik takeover in Russia is called the October Revolution even though it happened in what we call November.

The only difference, though, is simply this: The Julian calendar added a leap day (Feb 29th) to every fourth year without exception, the modern or Gregorian doesn't do that in years ending in 00. The Julian c. overcorrected for the fact that a solar year is almost, but not quite, 365.25 days long, so it was slipping at the rate of roughly a day per century. This meant that, by 1752 when Britain made the change, they had to adjust the date forward by eleven days- leading to protests from people claiming the Government had stolen a week and a half from them!

One other difference, not directly part of the Julian calendar but certainly affiliated with it in Britain and the colonial US: the New Year didn't start on January 1, but on March 25.

Until DTG announce the actual date the only people who know the target date is DTG
But then I'm not one to speculate on the possible actions of others.

To be ultra precise, the years ending 00 are leap years only every 4th time e.g. years 1600, 2000, 2400 are/will be leap years. Amazing to think about it but most of us have actually experienced one of those :D

If they built a replica of the line to Ramsgate, you'd never actually get there as there's often trespassers, signal failures or other things blocking the line between Faversham and Ramsgate.

Well it's a shame as it's a real factor of the railway. Especially if you then had to stop and report them. Possibly a feature for any multiplayer aspect when it's introduced, especially if they add a signaller mode.

Passenger AI definitely needs some help. I'm always amused when I take a train full of people back to the depot and shut it down for the night.

(IIDRC, TS had three separate events/objectives: Load passengers, unload passengers, and load/unload passengers as appropriate to the start, end or middle of a run. Why not TSW?)

I do wish level crossings would have crossing traffic you'd have to look out for. I just got done watching a bunch of near miss videos on youtube, such a scary but real aspect of train driving it would be interesting to incorporate it into the game.

Unfortunately, for the time being crossing guards are permanently down, because the devs found that animating them imposed too much of a performance hit.

Whilst you're on the right track, that's not quite the reason as to why it was disabled. The reason why it was disabled was because the function checking to see if any trains were approaching, to lower/raise the barriers, had too much of a performance impact. The performance impact was not from the animation itself.

Strange because animated grade crossings have been part of TS for years and no-one ever complained of a "performance hit".

Everything in TSW takes WAY more processing power than it does in TS.

Actually there has been a 30th of February, it was a leap year and my ship, a wind-class icebreaker was transiting from the East Coast to Antarctica. We were in the Pacific after going through the canal and heading toward New Zealand . Our track line was near the international dateline... we crossed the line going westward on the Feb 28th and the date changed to the 29th for our logs. Before midnight we recrossed the line going east thus the date changed back to 28th and at midnight would change to the 29th which for the logs would have been a second 29th... just for a lark, we made the entry the 30th rather than have two February 29ths in the rough logs.... .

Caution with this because we don’t yet know if it’ll receive the same love as the 166. It could just be to simply fix the issues TSW 2 introduced to it, so it’ll sound no different to how it originally sounded once fixed. There’s no guarantee of an upgrade or enhancement.

The best way to tell if it’ll have new sounds is to see how the 375 sounds once released.
