Dovetail Games Train Sim World 5 October 2024 Roadmap - Q&a Thread

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by DTG Alex, Oct 8, 2024.

  1. Are we going to get over the fact that they made us wait 2 months for a roadmap, most of the last month of which has been radio silence, only to announce a release date for a route that could have been done in its own article like it used to be? I thought the roadmap being monthly was supposed to allow more things to be announced?

Why was/is there complete silence on the numerous problems within TSW5 from DTG with the exception of DTG Alex virtually no responses whatsover!

Any update on the LNWR branding discussions?

  5. Exactly! If we are made to wait 2 months, we should expect more than a few third party updates and a release date (which never used to be in the roadmap anyway!)

323 since that's the only train they showed. Better for them to start small than to do more than the are comfortable with

Will there be a new timetable for the Fife circle route for the class 158, with more AI services similar to what's been seen on Edinburgh to Glasgow?

Regarding Manchester Airport Commuter when might we get confirmation on rolling stock? I know ATS said nothing new so I assume 323 for the commuter services, class 66 for freight, but seems like a big opportunity for Pendolino layers with Longsight depot, Piccadilly, as well as many Avanti services making stops at Stockport and Wilmslow. Maybe some short playable runs?

Not much time to list questions for the Q&A if the stream is a few hours after the roadmap releases, which I've only just looked at.

Anyway a couple of quick ones off the top of my head...

Why is there so little contrition over the state in which you released TSW5 and its new routes.
Further announcements notwithstanding please put more detail on what will be fixed, in particular the resurgence of red light issues, trying to remove stuck trains via the map resulting in the player train "Journey" being abandoned. Also the Save Game - Matt was promising a while back to look at opening up more save slots and fixing the loss of objective data on saving a chained service.

What's the honest truth on the Class 104 - it looks dead to me?

Why have you accepted such a short route from ATS, TSW is clogged with these? As it uses the existing 323 can we take it the selling price will reflect that and the short length, i.e. no more than £20?

Can we get some sort of apology or humility for the dreadful state WCMLS was released in and that steps have been taken to ensure this never arises again.

Were you really expecting a 100 mile route or something from ats when it's their very first dlc ever for tsw? Do you really want them doing more than they are comfortable with and possibly turning into a disaster? They spent years working on this project, creating assets and learning the tools. ATS could have literally created a single loco gameplay pack that only subs into 1 single route. If ats did a short linear route with 1 rolling stock, you would complain. If they did a long route and the quality wasn't there, you would be upset. If they do something in the middle of the road, you would still be disappointed

Question for Matt, not any forum members.

DTG Matt, slightly concerned to see that in the skybridge picture for the ATS route, cars are visibly sunk through the tarmac in the bottom left corner. This coupled with issues raised by forum members about floating cars in the new American route (released with TSW5, name escapes me) makes me wonder why cars and the ground don’t seem to interact so well in TSW. Can you please explain what causes these issues to occur (floating, sinking), and if there is anything DTG can do to stop it happening in future routes? Wondered if perhaps the ground being uneven/not solid in the game (if that’s such a thing) could be the problem. Thank you!

Is Matt feeling well again? And will the charity stream, which were planned for last Saturday and Sunday but got postponed, happen soon still?

    Best wishes for your health.

Will we see the “old” aeroplanes at Gatwick airport and Edinburgh airport adjusted to the new Airbus model featured in TSW 5?

Oh you can't stop being the unofficial mouthpiece can you. JT managed far more with their first route and brought us a cracking new train.

Don't presume to lecture me about what I shouldn't think or post.

And once again the questions are posed for DTG to answer not you.

The article did not mention it, but is the KiHa 40 confirmed for the Tadami Line - considering the devs have already shown it off on Twitter?

You're assuming every developer is jt. But the reality is they are doing what they are comfortable with or what they are able to do. There's nothing wrong with starting small or even doing a gameplay pack if that's the only thing they are able to do before doing a big project like you're asking for. Stop making it a bad thing that they start small.

Why are you so negative about tsw anyways and still playing the game? Even with blackpool branches, you complained one of the engines sounded like a 101 and made it like a big deal.

Never said it was a bad thing so stop putting words where I didn’t. Anyway ATS hardly come off unblemished when you read some of the sorry tales in the TSC forums about their content and business practices so let’s just wait and see what happens,eh?

I can imagine why many 3rd parties are reluctant to get involved with TSW.

    Such a miserable fanbase.

I know i can be salty sometimes too, but i really don't get hating on new 3rd-parties literally before they ever release anything.

If ATS and Simtrack are new to UE why would we want them to overextend themselves on scope, or rush to deliver- isn't that exactly what we complain about DTG doing? Are we really that starved for content?

Furthemore why would DTG be dictating what sorts routes they can make? That's the entire point of being 3rd-party, right? Otherwise they're just a contractor. Quality control is one thing but if somebody wants to make a narrow guage brazilian mining route (or whatever i just made that up), they should do it- if it's good people will buy it.

I think some people are genuinely never satisfied, but they really don't speak for the whole community.

I think 3rd parties are the only hope for long routes. End to end route

The most annoying thing is that every time the stream just literally repeats the roadmap from the site. Well, they answer a couple of frankly basic questions. They never answer awkward questions. They never show anything on top of what was in the roadmap article. What's the point of streams? Did someone can't read?

The fact that the vectrons ridiculous z fighting is still not fixed, is ridiculous. It's not even mentioned, which means they probably aren't even trying to fix it. And yes I'm aware it's not a one fix all, but they said going forward they would be better about not letting this happen. Yet it's still rampant on all new routes, and a lot of it's way to obvious to not be noticed, just gets ignored. For me I can look past most of it, but the monitor in the vectron is unbearable.

When are you going to hot fix the live map 2.0 to not get froze stuck and no being able to exit it, and having to force quit TSW and relaunch it?? So far confirmed to affect San Bernardino and custom scenario. Possibly more.

This is my first post. But when is the Köln - Aachen timetable coming (it doesn't even a date yet)? It was announced more than a year ago...

DTG Alex Just listening back to the livestream, and I'm annoyed that you completely misinterpreted my question above. I didn't ask "were those TSW5 routes in the July roadmap", which is the question you asked and answered - obviously they were. My question quite clearly was WHY were they in the 4-6 months category in the July roadmap, given that TSW5 actually came out 2 months later. 2 months isn't 4-6 months, so was their placement in the 4-6 months category a deliberate misplacement, or was TSW5 actually planned for a later release date then brought forward at some point between the July roadmap and the August Dovetail Direct?

I'm just asking for some transparency, given that the July roadmap misled people (me included) that TSW5 wouldn't release as early as September.

Just coming back to this - honestly, I do agree the graphic is quite misleading in this aspect, which wasn't the intention.

For context, we had actually started adding the TSW5 routes to roadmap graphic as far back as February with the UK Loco (Pendolino), and we slowly introduced them over the months, so originally they were correctly placed in the 4-6 month group, however, it seems to have been something that we didn't shift over. If I could go back, I'd probably be placing these in the TBC category, which is also another reason why in our recent TSW5 roadmap assets we've removed the 4-6 month group entirely, because it was a middle ground between "Soon" and "Unknown" that didn't serve player expectations well.

Appreciate the feedback, again no ill-intent was planned with this, more just oversight on how we're providing information. Since then we've re-structured our graphics in a way that better reflects how we share announcements, so I hope that clears this up.

Hello - Just to clarify, roadmap streams are not meant to contain exclusive information that is outside of the article, however it gives us the opportunity to have a more candid conversation, with Matt who can offer a development insight, and answer direct questions from the community during the evening that may help them.

To be truthful, many questions we get are related to content that isn't announced, or asking for details on projects that we're not able to share at this point. In terms of other questions, we had a block of 30 minutes at the end to directly engage questions asked in this thread, and from the community, which did cover some pressing issues and explain why certain processes are happening (Xbox Z Fighting as an example).

The point of the streams is to offer another way to digest information and communicate to our teams directly :)

    Hello everyone,

I've gone through and timestamped the June 2024 Roadmap last night, which highlights answers to many questions from this thread, as well as answers we were asked live during the evening that you can skim through. Q&A begins at 1:11:11, so feel free to skim from there to find answers to many questions asked in this thread, and during the livestream.
