Train Sim World 5 - The Cat Is Out The Bag

I have TSW2020, TSW2 and TSW4. But still playing TSW2 (for the trophies ). I was playing TSW2020 even into 2024, but the trophies over there are seriously over the top to get all trophies even on the base game.

For me, it's not really about releasing new versions. What's annoying to me is that for every new release you lose all levelling from the previous game, and you basically have to start from scratch regardless of having played the same routes in the previous releases.

 

I don't think that's the case, is it? My profile moved from TSW3 to TSW4 (Xbox).

 

It is but only on PlayStation I think, for some reason.

 

Oh, have they fixed this? For Tsw2, I had to create a completely new account and couldn't continue with my TSW2020 account. 400 hours of gameplay, level 150+, and just like that, gone.

So they've fixed this? When I start playing TSW4 at some point, it will carry over from Tsw2??

I'm on PS5 currently.

 

For Steam (PC) users you keep your in-game profile, but none of the Steam achievements are ported to the new game. So you need to grind them again if you want them.

 

The cat never was in the bag to begin with.

 

The only reason I even have TSW4 is because it was included with Xbox game pass, if TSW5 isn't then I won't be buying it.

 

Why the assumption that it's TSW5. The cat is there but it's still in the bag. This could just as likely be TSW2025, an update for all TSW4 owners and you pay for the additional new routes. Maybe it's just changing its name to "World of Trains", "Virtual railway" or "TSW - Cheap Day Returns".

As much as I love the concept of this, it will most likely never happen. Dovetail, after all, is a company. A company that has the same goal as many other companies, making as much money as possible. What makes them money? Releasing a “new” product every year that gains the public’s eye and gains interest.

What really annoys me, is not the new version which im willing ro pay every year. Its the constant braking of working features or things on older routes.

For example with tsw4 the entire substitution was botched and still is. I have the 187, but except for its homeroute it never appeared even once on a service.

This is a Nogo where DTG crossed my line for dropping money into tsw.

Agree. Breaking things is really the only reason I can think of that speaks against yearly versions. I also hope they stick to what to what they can deliver. Because I really don't get why they announced suspension. Seems to me they should have waited for TSW5 to announce it.

 

If it still has the graphical, immersion breaking issues, popping shadows, wonky draw distance on the rails, stutters, I'll stick with gamepass TSW 4 until TSW 5 (or what it will be called) hits gamepass.

 

Sounds like a problem on your end. Because for me and many others, the 187 is appearing on various different routes and timetables. Maybe you should check If you've got any mods installed which interfer with the 187.

 

Thats interesting, im on steam pc and have for example on riesa dresden 95% spawning the 185.5, 143 and very rarely the 182 on freight services. Nothing else comes along.

Whats sure i have no mods at all since tsw4. Many other players reported the same issues on pc. Could it be the addon manager?

I'm pretty sure i've also seen AI 187 in various routes on PC.

 

Wait, are you saying that wonky draw distance on rails is still present in TSW4??? They still haven't fixed this, even with new gen consoles? I have TSW4 but haven't got around playing it yet as I'm still on TSW2.

 

Nothing will change, it will be some new feature announcements (like last year, working editor and suspension - which are still not delivered). New menu, new number and that's it.

Basically it is a paywall once a year which gives you access to new patches and new dlc content, delivered with some kind of content you are interested in or not.

My guess is that they announced suspension, even when it was clearly not ready, in order to have as many compelling reasons as possible to buy TSW4. Even with suspension, there were questions about the value of TSW4 as a new version vs. just a simple numbering convention. The fact that we still don't have suspension highlights DTG's cynicism. Nobody pays up front for a feature that won't be available for 9-12 months, and even then, not all TSW stock will receive the upgrade.

My guess is this is why DTG is so keen to move to the subscription model. It is getting harder to come up with upgrades that justify a new game, and it is clearly also difficult for DTG to deliver on the upgrades that they do have. With a subscription DTG might get less money up front but would likely find it much easier to manage expectations. I look forward to their big announcement.

 

Ah you mean like the editor, where the unwary thought we were getting something as easy as Trainz Surveyor to work with and we would be churning out routes left, right and centre. Instead got a half implemented undocumented mess, with respect of course to those who have made some headway in it. Not for an old doofus like me, I'm afraid.

 

That's super lazy! Every time I noticed them, and it's impossible not to, I was always leaning toward the idea that by the time I start playing TSW4, these things would be fixed....you just killed my dream! *crying*

 

Unless TSW 4 gets removed from gamepass 1 week before the new release and is unavailable until January on Gampass like last year

The only language DTG and Focus speaks is money. If you want to make a difference, dont buy TSW 5 at release and wait for it to be discounted by 80% a month after release. Maybe then they'll stop monetizing every single aspect of the game every year

I can’t believe Warburtons keep putting their bread behind a paywall. Even if I only want two slices of bread I have to buy a whole ruddy loaf. And those crusts at the end, you can’t make a sandwich out of them because they are too thick, but I’m forced to buy two of them with every single loaf. And they don’t even include anything to put in the sandwich, you have to buy that as extra DLC (delicious lunch content). It drives me mad. It’s a lazy cash grab and they’ve been getting away with it since 1876.

 

Especially when they're half baked, have bread missing and cost £2.25!

 

Make a difference, this isn't some political movement! If I want it and think it is worth it, I will buy it, I am not going to get bitter about it. I haven't signed up for a Union. What difference will it make if I didn't, it would take hundreds of us to do so.

Businesses need to make money, it is hardly a new concept. They have just given us a free upgrade to the Cathcart route so not everything they do is monetised!

 

True, but that applies to every company and most of the people. We work for money. So it is fair they do this. And if they need it to survive, they are doing the right here.

 

It's not the annual new version or having to download all the DLC again that annoys me, but the fact that all the tedious community mods (sounds, updates, new timetables) won't work again and it will take time to get them to work. IF at all.

Starting from 0 every year is really tedious and annoying and a slap in the face for every dedicated modder.

 

So for me nothing changed from the last year's declaration - will be getting TSW5 only either from Humble Bundle Train Sim World Bundle or after Tadami route's release, whichever comes first.

If I'm lucky again like this year, I may get the key for the TSW5 core from somebody who doesn't need it, making it de-facto a "free" core upgrade, that it should have been (I still haven't even installed any of the core TSW4 routes, as I needed just the new core for updated to ToDv4 TSW/TSW2 routes).

 

Funny that. Generally the entire motive behind any business is profit. Especially ones with shareholders. Many on here fail to grasp that concept.

 

Buying a bundle of 3 routes every summer, at least two of which I'd buy anyway, for the price of 2 routes = fine.
Redownloading and reinstalling everything = not great
That week where the new version is out but the old DLC isn't, meaning no layers = not great.

Presumably this tests Sony and co's patience too? "I see you've uploaded Tees Valley Line to our store for the 9th time". It's not hard to envisage a time when they put a restriction on it, and then we'll be in trouble.

 

There is a balance though.

a) any business needs to keep its customers onside or the profits stop.
b) There has to be room in gaming - and all creative industries - for products at least partly motivated by passion, particularly a game like TSW. If the goal is to just do whatever is most profitable then make a crappy mobile game that fleeces people with micropayments. If you want to make an immersive Train Simulator, then of course you have to be realistic, but you have to put love and care into it, you need to consider your customers. I'm not saying DTG don't do this, but I think they could do this more.

 

Literally every complaint, bug report, suggestion, every piece of feedback given is a "First World Problem", that's not a valid dismissal. It's a discussion forum for a computer game, that's the purpose of it, the fact that an irritation about poor scenery in a new route isn't as bad an experience as being bombed in Ukraine is extremely obvious and irrelevant.

 

Assume the new UK routes will be behind a TSW5/2025 paywall much like Blackpool last year where it was on the roadmap for months prior to TSW5 being announced.

Hopefully the routes are worth buying. I have barely touched any of the 3 TSW4 routes having purchased it in a sale for Blackpool. If the routes are good (and it is released on PS4) then i'd probably cave at a sale.

 

I can't wait until May to buy it for £3 as part of a Humble Bundle.

Why 60€, for TSW5
If we follow the logic, €50 would be in the average franchise:
* TSW2 = 19.90/24.90€
* TSW3 = €29.90
* TSW4 = €34.90
So we should expect an increase of 10/15€ for a TSW5, after that who will live will see!!!

Its the folder on a PC where the weekly loading screen is saved locally on someone's disk. For whatever reason, it was uploaded with the name TSW5 in it instead of TSW4.

I have the same file.

 

So they are not keeping it a secret at all.
