    This Month's Case Studies: (TG08) Early Riser (CTC-3) + (TG08) 5B28 EDB-XHA (158)

We chat to the OP of this thread, TrainGeek08, to firstly talk about the scenario (below) '(TG08) Early Riser (CTC-3)', that will release this upcoming weekend!

What made the "Early Riser" service interesting enough to become a standalone scenario?

TrainGeek08: "I hadn't made a scenario on Boston Sprinter in a wee while, so decided to make another one, and Early Riser is the result of that."

How closely does the scenario follow real MBTA operating practices?
TG08: "Very closely I guess? I mean, you could use the safety systems to drive it like a real MBTA engineer would by reacting to the line-side signals to control your speed."

Were there any compromises made between realism and enjoyable gameplay?
TG08: "Mainly the amount of AI around Boston. However, this is no fault of my own, but more a flaw of the route as it was created before portals in SP 2.0 existed."

Were there any challenges recreating the busy morning atmosphere around Boston?
TG08: "I alluded to it in the previous question. Lack of portals on Boston Sprinter compared to newer routes within the TSW franchise so it isn't as busy as you'd expect."

What environmental details were added to make the early morning feel authentic?

TG08: "I had to set the time of day and weather to time it correctly for the player to experience a sunrise heading along the NEC towards Boston to give it that morning feel."

If you revisited this scenario today, what would you improve?

TG08: "Nothing. I used the real life timetable. What more could you ask for?"

We then ask TrainGeek08 to discuss another scenario (below) '(TG08) 5B28 EDB-XHA (158)', that will release next week.

Why was an ECS service chosen instead of a passenger working?

TrainGeek08: "To be different. I know this scenario won't do well, but it's something different to do."

Were real ECS movements used as reference material?

TG08: "Yes. I used Realtime Trains to create this scenario as I always do with modern-day UK scenarios. A fantastic resource indeed!"

Were any unique signalling sequences scripted specifically for this scenario?

TG08: "I had to chain paths at Haymarket, hence creating a sequence where I stopped at Haymarket on a red, before it jumped to a yellow once I chained onto the new path. It is a common occurrence when you chain paths, but on this occasion, it is very realistic."

How much interaction with AI passenger services occurs during the scenario?
TG08: "You get held up in the Mound Tunnels just outside of Waverley for a Leven-Edinburgh service to clear the line ahead of you. You only get held for a minute or two, but it is still influenced by an AI service."

What was the biggest development challenge for this scenario?

TG08: "The duration of the scenario being so short. However, this isn't my fault. Haymarket Depot isn't far away from Waverley, so trying to combat the urge (internally) to call it quits was a bit difficult to resist."

If given unlimited development time, what would you add to this scenario?

TG08: "More AI. If I had access to the PC Editor, I'd make the scenario properly with static AI at Haymarket Depot for argument's sake!"

Thanks to TrainGeek08 for taking the time to answer those burning questions for us :).

    Community Corner:
A new section of the Roadmap where you can request scenarios or liveries for me to make. Put your ideas either below or in my dedicated CC Releases and Updates Thread and I'll see what I can do for you.
    (just an example)

    Conclusion:
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this one, put your thoughts below as ever . Any feedback on the new format would be appreciated! From me, TrainGeek08, I'll see you soon for another CC release announcement, enjoy the rest of your day and goodbye ;).
