Trains In Timetable Mode Using Free Roam Features

I think the point of free roam is that there is no point (ie. objective). I may be wrong on this, but since freeroam has timetable, I imagine you'd be able to jump on any timetabled service and work it much as you would in normal timetable mode, so perhaps you could spwan in at a terminus station, drive a service, leave the cab and let AI take it wherever its next destination is, while you spawn in an sd40 to take you to your next destination?

I do agree that adding "tasks" would be a nice addition, however that's leaning into the realms of scenario planner at al. Perhaps having the ability to set a route in scenario planner (since it allows passenger pickup) and spawning that into free roam (in timetable mode) could be a thing in future

 

I think Matt said that if you spawn a train in free roam and drive it to somewhere and then leave it, it will just sit there and potentially cause mayhem with the dispatcher.

 

Correct, but he also said you can despawn the train to put the timetable back to normal

 

I wonder how the signaling will work. For example, I set the route of my train to a siding. The turnout has a 40km/h limit to the turn. Does it light up at signal 4 on the traffic light?

 

DTG Matt If possible if we can get a preview stream on a busy route like London commuter with spawning in the 700 at East Croydon going down to towards Gatwick. I know you probably want to show it on a new route so this should take that long,

 

I agree regarding scenario planner. I think the only way that 'Free Roam' could avoid potentially ending up being a one-trick gimmick is for it to be combined with scenario planner eventually as the way forward. I mean it sounds very good to finally drive any applicable train in a busy timetable mode, but overall seems pretty pointless still if the train is empty and/or there isn't actually any overall objective. When I play TSW, I like to have a purpose, like completing all services in timetable mode, so I hope free roam can be further developed.

 

As i haven't played this game in over 6 months, i am struggling how to use freeroam in timetable mode.
Specifically how to set up consists on the fly. If i place a loco and then want to add my own type of coaching stock, it will only place the extra vehicles with a set distance between each one. Not buffer to buffer, surprise surprise i go to the in game menu help section. Under Freeroam, i get a message similar to "there isn't any content here", well it is DTG.

 

You are best off making consists in the consist builder/editor then spawning them in.

Or what I normally do is spawn let's say a flying Scotsman with 8 coaches. Uncouple it and remove it, then spawn a class 40 for example and couple to the coaches.

I wanted the Green Brush Type 4 from the WSR, but not the crimson and cream MK1's.
So i spawned the Type 4 as light loco and tried to add MK2's, but as i said only added the coaching stock with the gaps between each one.
