    as far as i know i am running dx12 but i'll doublecheck.
    i'm running this and other games on a 2tb ssd drive. Samsung 970 EvoPlus to be exact. That particular drive is exclusive to just games and maybe a few videos and I have over 700 gb of free space on it. My main drive is a black wb 250 gb ssd drive and a regular hdd drive stores things like my onedrive.
    I'm thinking it could either be my power supply or my lenovo 3716 motherboard that's the problem. It's a stock motherboard with all the settings locked so I can't enable xmp or set fan curves. Not sure I can even enable PBO. My best bet might be to buy a gaming motherboard. Don't know why Lenovo decided to lock their board in such a matter but I guess it's their board and they can do whatever they want to it

    Turbo game mode i have that setting too on my asus motherboard
    but i choose for performance less noise and heat

    Yeah its not a good choice. This type of setting can fry your cpu with serious damage. And change to make your'e pc unstable

    Meanwhile over in display tech, it's taken decades for flat panel technology to finally catch up to where a £1200 480Hz OLED has comparable motion clarity to a bog-standard CRT.


    One can only hope as this edges towards the standard, that we can finally be done with some of the horrendous effects game devs have used for the last twenty years to try and compensate for the failings of the display tech.

    That was never as problem with plasmas, but the pinheads at the EU banned them. (I kept my 720p plasma running for years, because it looked better than most 1080 LEDs at sane price points. Finally retired it when I went 4K/HDR (in other words, finally decent blacks from LEDs))

    I too watched this monitor review, wouldn't mind a 240Hz 4k 32" version. Mind you, good luck running TSW at 480 fps, even at a resolution of 1440p. :D

    Absolutely. This route has significant issues with distant scenery and particularly foliage (both the LOD and it not being affected by ambient occlusion, which I suspect are linked) which I’ve done my best to mitigate. I can’t fix entirely what I can’t control and I don’t understand why it’s like this, but it looks like TSW2 under certain conditions. I was much much happier with my second end-to-end run than the first, which had looked really terrible because of that distant foliage issue. I’m laying the blame firmly at the feet of Gen8 optimisations for what it’s worth, it isn’t a skill issue at all.

    The lighting setup is also different to BPO as are a few other bits.

    WCML over Shape really looks good with the new God mode and your data sav file in it JetWash. You are an amazing asset for this sim.

    Thanks for the mod. It really makes a difference.

    Is anybody else getting a crash to desktop with an unreal error when they exit out of WCML over Shap?

    It didn't happen to me before the new version of the mod and when I remove the GodMode.sav file the crash doesn't happen. It happens with both Ultra and High quality and doesn't happen on other routes, although my testing on other routes is not extensive.

    Yes, I got an UE crash after I completed 1S40 and went to exit at the main menu. This may indicate a conflict between mods or game.

    This is really odd because I haven’t experienced the same thing but I’ve had another report of it happening, assuming it’s the same DX12 related crash. It affects Ultra, High and Medium.

    Removing the following lines from the ini will fix it;

    r.AllowOcclusionQueries=1
    r.HZBOcclusion=1

    Once removed you must quit the game and reboot. Simply removing them doesn’t get rid of the command until you reboot.

    I’m still working on ways to mitigate this lack of distant foliage occlusion. Although that seems to work for me it does seem to be causing crashes for others and I’ve no idea why, nor is there a logical reason for it to cause the game to crash. Sorry. I’ll likely post an update tomorrow to remove those lines and hopefully post another fix for the issue.

    ps If you’re not aware of what I’m talking about a picture paints a thousand words;

    1) The trees on the left of the picture. The AO stops really close to the player and all those trees have no shadowing or ambient occlusion

    2) The distant trees on the hill on the right. I’m not sure we’ve seen distant scenery look this poor since Mein-Spessart Bahn in TSW2, and this was a problem that was meant to have been sorted literally years ago

    I initially mistook those trees as 2D but I think now they’re 3D with incredibly low LODs. Whatever they are, they look pretty ropey and really spoil the look of what is otherwise a nice route

    Yes, literally just ran a route and it crashed as soon as I tried to exit back to the menu. I'll try removing those lines next time I play.

    Cool. This fixed it for the other report I had, there is nothing else in the ini that is any different to every other route. If it still happens with those lines removed then it isn’t the ini causing it.

    What I’d seen previously mentioned DX12.

    This crash will only happen when you try to return from WCMLOS to the main menu. If it’s not happening at that point then it’s not this. It’s a cast-iron fix to remove those two lines, do not go to the main menu but quit out of the game directly and reboot. If the game crashes on load shut down your PC, reboot and load again and it will work just fine.

    Just finished a short Morecombe to Lancaster run and exited to desktop, no UE crash.

    Right JetWash, when you complete a run, you have to exit from the main menu.

    I think you’re getting confused. The crash happens with the lines in and you go back to the main menu. If you remove the lines, quit straight out of the game then reload all will be well and you’ll be able to go from WCMLOS to the menu again without issue.

    One more getting crashes on exiting. Will try removing those lines, although I mistakenly assumed that Godmode reloads the sav file at each game start.

    It doesn’t. You must do it as I’ve said (ie quit the game) or you’ll just end up in a bit of a crashy mess

    I do believe JetWash we have gotten into one of those situations where we are both saying the same thing yet differently. I did remove the line in question, exited the sim and when back in did not get a crash the next time I did an exit from the main menu.

    The fix of removing the 2 lines from the INI work for me, now trying to see which one of my myriad of mods is causing this route to crash the instant you attempt to load into it. I can do the training modules on the 87 in the Training Center area with no issues, but loading the actual route is an instant CTD. I bet it's one of the Blackpool mods, or possibly the few recently released mods that adds liveries to the 31 & 47 via PAK files.

    I removed Laika's coach light fix mods, but those weren't it. Looks like I have a lot of sifting to do this weekend. :(
    Maybe a mod for the 101? Not even sure where to start...

    Just in case anyone else ends up confused like I did. The lines need removing from the GodMode.sav and not the Engine.ini

    Yeah, to be clear they need removing from the route specific ini within the game, which is contained within the GodMode.sav

    I’ll update in the morning so it’ll no longer be an issue

    I was going to post saying my game doesn't crash on returning to the menu, but I presume you have already updated the files, as the foliage LODs seem to be within about 20 feet of the train. And nothing like the other routes you have modded.

    No. You don’t sound like you have the latest version installed to be honest. I haven’t updated anything yet.

    You do have the latest version of GodMode I assume?

    I can’t make my game crash but I need some corroborating evidence.

    I had a few issues with the High and Ultra settings yesterday causing my game to freeze up (where I've not had any issues with Ultra previously), so I changed to Medium, which was fine, but got the crash on exit. Haven't changed anything since as I was out last night.

    Am WFH home today so happy to help test if you can hang on until after lunch?

    Unfortunately no matter what I do it is absolutely impossible to alter the distant ambient occlusion on these trees.

    The fixed pre-sets are available below which will resolve any crashing issues.

    This very short video demonstrates the vanilla game's default Ultra settings then the transformation as the Ultra pre-set is applied. It also demonstrates the problem I've been trying to solve

    I thought I had updated godmode but there is a chance I accidentally just copied the old version again. I'll do some experimenting today.

    Edit: Yeah I downloaded the new version and then accidentally deleted that and copied the old version, I do get the crash when exiting to main menu now.

    Hello guys, just wanted to leave a huge thanks to you guys working hard on all the mods in the EP. I've recently got TSW5 after some months away from the sim and coming back to it all I can say is I'm blown away by the improvements - the game looks amazing!

    I only have a lowly 2070 GPU but I've always been able to run everything on high (though foliage on Ultra gives me better frame rates than High weirdly) with solid 50-60 fps most of the time. But with the addition of Lossless Scaling, it's smooth as butter (I cap my fps at 50 as my screen is 100hz). The only issues I get is on WCMLS, same as others have, where it freezes loading up the Willesden tile but a few tweaks of max fps and screen res sort that out. Over Shap is beautiful and WCMLS is stunning with all the AI from the timetable mod and the sound packs make it probably the most immersive route yet.

    Afternoon all. I've just pushed out v1.41 which is a minor update to Ultra and High that fixes something that has been driving me slowly bonkers for a long time. From the changelog;

    v1.41

    - I've been digging for a long time to try and find the cause of the crazy flickering shadows that randomly appear. There was no rhyme or reason to it and I've witnessed them in a totally default game under both DX11 and DX12. I'm happy to say that I've found a fix that works under all circumstances. This small update is to Ultra & High only to bring them in to line with Medium which by chance already had the correct setting.
