    Hello,

I am a bit confused about how route compatibility is supposed to work on PlayStation.

From what I have read in several forum posts, buying the Train Sim World 2 or Train Sim World 3 version of a route DLC should also unlock that route for Train Sim World 2020, since it is the same preserved collection content.

However, this does not seem to be happening on my PlayStation.

I purchased several route DLCs for Train Sim World 2, but none of them automatically unlocked for Train Sim World 2020.

What did happen is that I was able to manually claim the same route DLCs for Train Sim World 3, Train Sim World 4, Train Sim World 5, and Train Sim World 6 from the PlayStation Store at no extra cost. The only version that never became available was Train Sim World 2020.

Is this a known issue on PlayStation, or am I missing an extra step to unlock the TSW2020 versions?

According to what I have read, the TSW2020 licenses should also be included, so I am wondering why they are missing while all later versions work correctly.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

    Update:

I think I may have found the cause of the problem.

It looks like Dovetail may have simply forgotten to include the TSW2020 (and in some cases even the TSW2) entitlements when purchasing the TSW3 versions of certain route DLCs on PlayStation.

I also noticed that some of the TSW3 route DLCs still contain the old TSW2 store descriptions, which makes me think they may not have been updated properly.

The only route where I was at least able to download the TSW2 version was Great Western Express: London – Reading. However, even there I still cannot access the PS4 / TSW2020 version.

Has anyone else noticed this, or could someone check whether they have the same issue? It almost seems like the TSW2020 licenses are simply missing from the PlayStation Store entitlements.

Entitlements generally only go forwards and not backwards. To get the entitlements for a route in all iterations of TSW it can appear in you need to buy the one for the earliest iteration, which will then unlock it for later versions. Buying it for a later version won’t necessarily unlock it for earlier versions. It’s how entitlements are set up in the store.

What does the store say if you go to those specific DLC's of TSW2020? So go in the store to TSW2020, then go to the DLC you own, do it say purchase or something else and if it's say purchase, does it actually requires a payment?

Older routes for TSW3 are showing an old picture and also the text is not adjusted, but I don't think that's the cause.

Entitlements are also working backwards, except when you purchase TSW6 versions.

Might help if we knew the routes you were having issues with.
Not all routes released after TSW2020 would work. They would contain "New" features that were not present in the TSW2020 version.

Yes, but we can be sure it's not something like NEC:NY because OP got the TSW2/3/4/5/6 versions when buying it for TSW2.

OP, which of the following TSW routes you purchased is not unlocking for TSW2020?

    Sand Patch Grade
    Great Western
    Rapid Transit
    West Somerset
    Ruhr Sieg Nord
    Long Island Railroad
    Northern Transpennine
    Main Spessart Bahn
    Tees Valley
    Rhein Ruhr Osten
    East Coastway
    Oakville
    Haupstrecke Rhein Ruhr

This is the full list of TSW routes prior to TSW2, so this will help figure out where your problem lies.

That is not quite right, because I bought Train DLCs from TSW3 which automatically unlocked the entitlements for the older ones as well as newer ones.

When I open the Train Sim World 2020 in-game store and go to the routes I already own for TSW2 (and which are also available for TSW3, TSW4, TSW5, and TSW6), the TSW2020 versions still show a price and ask me to purchase them. They are not marked as owned and cannot be claimed for free.

    The affected routes are:
    • Long Island Rail Road
    • Northern Trans-Pennine
    • Main Spessart Bahn: Aschaffenburg – Gemünden

So, are these the core routes for TSW 2020?
Does the game come with a disc, or is it digital?

The named routes are the base game routes:

Routes: The base game features four iconic routes: Long Island Rail Road, Main-Spessart Bahn, Northern Trans-Pennine, and the return of Great Western Express.

So it looks like there is something wrong your license of the TSW2020 digital deluxe edition.

There was an issue at some point with physical disc versions needing DTG help desk intervention to fix the licenses for compatibility. I'm fuzzy on the details, but if you have a physical copy, try submitting a ticket.

Yeah, I'd already discounted the physical version being the issue, because as OP says, it was a purchase of the digital versions for TSW2.
That problem applied to the physical version not granting the TSW2 versions because it was on disc rather than a digital key.

You were right – I completely forgot that those routes are already included in my Deluxe Edition. After checking, I can indeed play them in TSW2020.

What confused me was the in-game store. For some locomotive/train DLCs, it tells me that I do not own the required route and redirects me to purchase it, even though I can already select and play that route in the game.

I think the reason is that I own those routes through the Deluxe Edition rather than as individual PlayStation Store licenses. The in-game store seems to only check for standalone route licenses and therefore assumes I do not own them.

That made me think the routes themselves were missing, when in reality it is just the in-game store not recognizing the bundled license.

I do have one more question, though.

If I were to buy the Train Sim World 2020 Collector's Edition on disc, which includes additional route DLCs, would those routes also unlock for the newer Train Sim World games (TSW2 through TSW6)? Or does that only work with digital PlayStation Store licenses, meaning I would have to contact Dovetail Support to have the entitlements added?

Has anyone here tried this with the physical Collector's Edition?

If you buy a disc, for sure you need to contact DTG to get licenses for newer versions. However I don't know if they still provide this option, as TSW2020 is from long time ago.
