Anyone think that the Great Western Line from London Paddington to Reading is in desperate need of a Remaster? It was originally released when the original Train Sim World 2020 came out. It just looks so outdated graphically now and the lighting is horrible.

It definitely does, but it won't be remastered - DTG has said that it would need to be rebuilt from scratch because of differences in how routes are made today vs back then.

After a clean install of windows 11 trying to see what I could do about the stutters.
And this is Nvidia driver 556.12, a step down from the latest driver. No HDR or reshade. Only graphics mod is the enhancement mod
Anyone else still using this driver? How does it compare with the latest in terms of performance?

FWIW it’s worth, since I started using that ‘Lossless Scaling’ program the game is as smooth as silk. Shock horror! I mean, it’s kinda obvious but DTG just don’t seem to get that all this modern gaming tech is there for a reason. Anyway, for a small fee (about £5) I couldn’t recommend it enough.

In other news I’ve made quite a few changes to the mod that brings the older routes up to a similar spec as the newer releases, and improved things quite markedly in some areas I think. I’m not planning on putting this version out for TSW4, but have been able to try a couple of things out before TSW5 is demonstrated and we know what we’re going to have to play with.

Fingers crossed we’re going to see significant steps forward in all these areas (given DTG’s lack of DLC over the last 12 months I hope it indicates they’ve been hard working at the core) but for the time being I strongly recommend Lossless Scaling. I am running the game at 30fps and the program is filling the gaps giving me a solid 60fps.

Hello, and thank you for your excellent contribution to the community!
A quick question about Lossless sclaling: could you give us your settings for TSW4 ,
I use it and I find that it increases jerkiness in my home.

Very interesting. What settings are you using with your system?

Did you use the down scale or only the other options?

    thank you.
i think i may try it out.
that unreleased version of your mod, yeah it may make sense to wait till we see what tsw5 has to offer, because something could break then you end up giving yourself way more work if you end up having to troubleshoot and test at the same time.
either way your mod makes the game feel way more immersed in terms of graphics and performance

For anyone interested in my settings: see quoted post above (page 21third post from the bottom)

I don't use upscaling because of a 1080p monitor but you can set your API (Scaling Type) to anything you want really. I do recommend LS1 and AMD FSR. for scaling mode I suggest "Auto" and "Aspect ratio" sharpness is personal preferance and doesn't effect performance.

That’s always been a problem around this game for some reason. People repeat a myth so often it starts to become the truth, which it often isn’t anything like.

I’m away at the moment but will post my lossless scaling settings as soon as I can. Set up correctly you’ll see no juddering.

Sure, except this was a myth created by DTG. Matt himself in a stream very clearly played down the chances of a GWE remaster.

That’s fair, but then Matt has said a lot of things that haven’t been entirely correct. I’d imagine his role is quite a dynamic one, in that plans and dates change frequently, so what is fact one minute is not fact another. Also, playing down a remaster makes it more of a surprise when it happened.

Been investigating Lossless Scaling myself now to see what its benefits could be to TSW and searched and came across your posts. So your thoughts on it are passive and it works with some benefit? I might need to give it a try!

I just tried this lossless scaling but I don't know if I'm using the wrong settings or something. I dunno. It freezes and the mouse disappears. I'm on the verge of requesting a refund from steam because it's pointless keeping something that doesn't work.
If anyone has any settings they'd like to share please do. I'd really appreciate it. I'm running a rtx 3080 and a ryzen 9 5900x

How To Set Up Lossless Scaling's Frame Generation Feature (https://store.steampowered.com/app/993090/Lossless_Scaling/)

    1) I set up Nvidia Control Panel as follows as my monitor is GSYNC compatible. If yours isn't you don't need to worry about this

    Screenshot (1456).png

    2) Set up Lossless scaling as follows. I am NOT using the scaling feature, only the Frame Generation. You do not need a 40series or Nvidia card for this work to work. It is software based Frame Generation and works on all cards.

If I haven't shown a setting it is default (either Auto or Off). You will see below in the game settings that I have set the fps limit to 30fps, which is half my monitor refresh rate of 60hz. Using x2 will give the best results but it is possible to use more on a weaker machine. If I wanted to use Mode x3 (where the program generates 2 frames for every one the game does) then I would need to cap my fps at 20fps (20x3=60)

    Screenshot (1457).png
    Screenshot (1460).png

    3) Set up the Game. The game MUST be in Windowed Fullscreen or it won't work properly

    Screenshot (1459).png

    4) Finally this. You will notice that my game is now running in 4K with 125% screen percentage. With the game as default I would need to run 90% screen percentage to maintain 60fps in 99% of situations. Using lossless scaling Frame Gen means my computer is outputting the game in 30fps and the program is generating the frames in-between, and the graphical fidelity and smoothness I'm getting is a huge step up. You will have to experiment with this for yourself for your machine. Note - My VSYNC is OFF because that is being controlled by the Nvidia Control Panel. If you are not using that then you will need to turn VSYNC ON otherwise you will experience tearing of your image

    Screenshot (1458).png

    5) The way I start it is to just run the game as normal until you load into your chosen service/scenario. Before clicking 'go' I hit the windows key and open Lossless Scaling from my taskbar. Click 'Scale' and a 5 second countdown will begin and that 5 seconds is to allow you to click back to the game screen. It doesn't matter where, you just need to make sure you've clicked on the game screen. Once that's done you will see the game running at 2x your set fps but note that your fps counters will still read 30fps (in my example) as that is what the game is outputting.

Hope that helps. I strongly suggest you stick with this if you have it, and get it if you don't (it only costs £5.89). Until DTG add this type of thing into the game themselves this is a massive performance benefit and when TSW5 releases the 'Ultra' version of this mod will assume you are using this program, as I have been able to push the graphical fidelity yet further with the extra performance this is giving us.

quick question. if you use lossles caling does it work with LIRR 2.0? Because when I select the outside view fps drps to 8 sometimes. and lossless scaling fps fuctuates. is this normal behavior for that program? or is there something going on on my end that i can't put me finger on?

Could someone please tell me what recording software you use with Lossless scaling? I've been trying to use Nvidia app beta and obs studio but none of them seem to work. The recording always comes out choppy with shadowplay and obs seems to be resource heavy and the recordings don't look that great either. Neither YouTube nor Google has come up with anything substantial so I'm in limbo here wondering whether I just threw 6 bucks down the drain and whether I should get a refund.
This whole thing is strange. My system should be able to handle this. I have all the latest drivers installed and I always get them from the original sites. I never use Windows generic drivers. I've already spent a lot of time and money trying to upgrade this system and I'd hate to know that I probably got fake parts or they just weren't good. I'm thinking this is on my end and I can't figure out what else is wrong

It’s not your PC, lossless scaling doesn’t like overlays (which Shadowplay is). Think of it as a tool for enhancing your game, if your mission is to record you’ll likely have to use something other than Shadowplay anyway. Either way I’ve not been able to Shadowplay to work properly in an age due to Windows write permissions. Nvidia have broken it somehow.

You're probably right. Even without lossless and on any game shadowplay playbacks are choppy despite a smooth image capture. seems like Nvidia's drivers these days leave a lot to be desired because I never actually had the problem of a choppy playback before. And quite a few others complain about it too. Google search or YouTUbe hardly has any solution that's substantial.
I'm using OBS to record lossless. Even that is a bit choppy but I'm trying to find the correct settings because playback is in 30 fps despite lossless giving extra frames.
what sftware do you use to screen record?

A little update; I've been busy fine tuning the additions to this mod in preparation for TSW5's release and am very happy with the results. I'll use the early access period to complete the setup and then put it up on TSC when the game goes on general release.

I do think sometimes it's easy to forget just how much of a difference these changes can make so here's a before and after shot of Semmeringbahn, using today's date (Sept 9th) at about 0630 in the morning with overcast skies (although on the re-load the skies are slightly less cloudy than they were), a bit of rain and a little fog. One of these looks pretty realistic to me, the other looks like a bit of a pantomime.

Oh Jet, redo with the exact same cloud coverage please. The whole lighting is depending on the clouds.

The slider was in a the identical place but it rendered the clouds differently. I’ll try and do it again, but needless to say it makes the difference even more stark.

Here we go, as close as I can get it. Note also the difference in the sky & cloud in my version vs the default game. Again, bear in mind this is half 6 in the morning in mid-ish September so the sun is very low in the sky and the lighting should reflect that

My lossless scaling settings as I used Nvidia Shadowplay. And in order to get it to screen record lossless scaling you have to open nvidia app overlay and hit record before going into the game. Otherwise it might not work Screenshot (1).png

Each time I'm playing the AP-enhanced TSC, I cannot find anything real about the dud TSW lighting, even with all your effort in trying your best to rectify it. There's something comical about TSW (that I don't find in SimRail, which has pretty good lighting)

Just playing the gorgeous Weardale & Teesdale Route Network and all this just looks way more natural and less flat to me...

I’ve previously said that TSC could look as good, if not better, than TSW. It makes me cringe a little but I do stand by it as when I said it, I did so during the TOD3 era and TSC had been modded to within an inch of it’s life. At this point (TOD4) however, I believe that with this mod that on the whole TSW looks excellent generally and at times it can be jaw-dropping, almost photo-realistic.

For the first time in a long time I fired up TSC a couple of days ago to have a go on WCMLS, one of the routes I previously really enjoyed. I was just blown away by how dated it looked now, even with all the bells and whistles installed. I struggle to square that circle anymore, and for me TSW is clearly on a different level at this point. With that said though, TSC always gave me a cosy feeling that I believe TSW was lacking. I’ve tried my very best to get that back in TSW and hope that to some extent I’ve succeeded.

The issue as far as this mod is concerned is that because TSW is effectively a closed shop I’m having to hack it from the outside. That is only possible to this extent because of GodMode, so thank God (!) for that. The truth is though that without access to the full editor and uncooked files (which is obviously never going to happen) the scope for taking it much further is pretty limited. I will continue to do what I can but I honestly think I’m hitting the limit now of what can be achieved through ini mods alone.

Happily I’ve made a good few changes to the mod since I last put out a release and I think it now looks the best it has, and that will be the version for TSW5 and beyond. One of the things I was never fully happy with was the way it could look quite dark at times, which I believe I’ve now managed to solve. Some routes (including Preston - Blackpool) have had a complete makeover and look much better as a result, and I’ve also discovered some new commands to do with the lumen scene which have had a positive effect too.

Ultimately everyone will have their own view on what looks right and what doesn’t. TSC can absolutely look amazing and still has this x-factor, an atmosphere about it that is very difficult to capture in TSW. For me though, in every respect bar availability of stock TSW is a long way ahead at this point. I just wish the editor gave us a bit more access to change things like is the case in TSC.

I do it for fun, nothing else. I enjoy playing the game (frustrated as it sometimes makes me) and just try to make it more to my liking, same for all modders I’d guess. There are some very very clever (far cleverer than me) people making mods for this game.

This looks amazing, I cannot wait to try it out in TSW5. (Currently still on TSW2)

Another test of lossless scaling. this time on the LIRR 2.0 route that's notorios for low FPS. It was fine for the first half. Then I had to deactivate it when I got near Jamaica. Then it crashed, but what you'll see is the sparks feature many of us wanted in this route. This enhanced lighting mod helped to really bring it out

I have loaded all my mod apk files into TSW5 as well as the save file that goes with God Mode. So far no issues, but we have to wait for the new TSW5 version of God Mode for it to work there.
