I do agree, owning all the British DLC it would be a big sacrifice to leave it all behind. There problem here is there will never be the right time to move because as said this DLC list isn't getting any shorter. It could be a really sticky situation for DTG and not one I'd like to make the decision on!
It really is a dilemma. Somehow, I can’t see Victoria sponge fixing this problem….although if it’s home made,
A lot of us have done it before when moving TSC to TSW. Weigh up the benefits of new features against cost of replacing what you have to leave behind. The flight simulation world was upended by Microsoft's return to the scene. Lockheed Martin provided a useful, rather than exciting, stopgap during Microsoft's absence. However Lockheed's mantra of keeping backward compatibility at the expense of using new game engines bit Lockheed and all the cottage industry third party developers, in the backside. Playing it safe with slow incremental changes left a gap for a big player like Microsoft to come in and blow everyone and everything out of the water. DTG would do well to acknowledge the serious threat a similar situation poses them and reduce the gap as much as possible by using the latest technology wherever practicable.
No way - I own all DLC, well over $2,000 USD. About the same for TSC. If preserved collection cannot be moved to Unreal Engine 5 (if that's what they go to), it should be free or minimally priced. All new Routes and DLC would be a deal-breaker for me on purchasing TSW4. (5) (6) (etc)
We had exactly such poll and the community voted to ditch them which DTG did. Quite why they brought them back is beyond me as once again the forums are being filled with spam polls about whether people will read an article/buy something which hasnt even been announced/get out of bed in the morning,
They're supposed to have updated Oakville sub with the passenger runs for TSW2 (we're STILL waiting for these final route updates/improvements that DTG Matt keeps promising) so god knows when we'll ever see them because Matt keeps on spouting bollocks about finding a window for them.
Nobody is panicking. Just that there's leaks saying tsw4 is coming out only a year after tsw3 recently released. New game means previous version is dropped and if you want fixes or whatever, it's behind a paywall. Nobody knows what's happening since dtg has been silent
What fixes? We all know DTG don't give a monkeys! They'll release TSW4 whenever and just like 2020 & 2 leave 3 a broken buggy mess! After that Matt will promise everything and deliver nothing but those broken promises!
Until DTG do start with a new version we will see the same bugs going from one minor upgrade to the next but then if they do start a new version where does that leave customers with their expensive collections. If DTG actually were as open as they think themselves (which they aren't) they would discuss with the customers about the way forward instead they pretend they are Bethesda and try to inflict inane 'surprises' IMO they would earn a lot of credit if they came out and said 'we have taken TSW3 as far as we can but can go further with a new version' but then as I said it will still be down the way they handle customers. I reckon if they did go to a brand new version discounts should be given for every route that was in the old version if you have it already. But then this is DTG, and we all know they won't.
Wasn't that the original reason for TSW3, they'd taken 2 as far as they could go and could do much more with a new version?
I think that was one of many given but still there was no reason all the updates in TSW3 could not have been done in TSW2 as they are the same version. I suspect this 'TSW4' thing will now become an annual thing as it pulls in the lolly.
If/When we ever move to an engine upgrade/different engine then I wouldn't be bothered if we lost the routes but I'd want them to do everything they can to transfer loco's. There are routes in TSW3 that are dead because of lack of relevant loco's, It would be even worse if we had to start again!
I think the way it's going the only thing people want is white units with flushing toilets that are quiet as possible on routes with a bonus railtour if your lucky.
The locos would need dedicated routes to run them on. For example an acela is useless unless there's a route for the nec
New fifa game coming next year, can buy it for new kits. Only another 13 days until stream. We can probably hit 100 pages of speculation by then right......
I said earlier that the Austrian route was for TSW3 but that was a mistake. The U.S and Austrian routes are both TSW4 only.
Still harbouring a secret hope that Microsoft bounce back on the scene with an all-new MSTS 2024, that would really light a fire under competitors’ backsides! Then we may at last start seeing some meaningful core improvements to TSW.
Even if they did just transfer the Loco's there is no guarantee they will not transfer bugs as well. Personally I just hope it is a TSW3 core update because it will be very expensive for some people but TSW4 does look likely. One thing worries me (for others) is that when DTG say they are looking forward to this AUG 22nd announcement you can almost be assured it will cost us dear.
You was correct on both. I’m not going to lie I didn’t want to believe you on the US route mainly because it didn’t make sense to me . But at the end was correct. Kudos for finding this stuff.
Is this statement based on facts? Not arguing it isn't as I don't know but it sounds so farfetched that switching to UE5 means everything made in UE4 becomes obsolete. I really don't know any production tool that makes your content obsolete if you switch to a new version. I don't understand why developers would even keep using such an engine after UE2 was introduced.
Depends on what you are using from the toolset. In terms of switching from UE4 to UE5 there are some significant changes that break everything in your game. But you are right, you don't have to scrap everything to switch. You 'just' need to put your hands on it again what can cause massive costs. Example and what would count for TSW is the world composition that is not existing anymore in UE5 (i mean the tile based world streaming). That would scrap every route completely. So, routes probably have to be rebuild completely for UE5. You can imagine what a pile of work that is. Meshes, textures, audio and such sources can be reused of course. But that does not help much when your entire game world does not.
I honestly wish DTG would pick a route and expand out from it with extra layers until it becomes more complete, instead of just cherry picking some short line from end to end and then zooming out from the map and going somewhere completely different and doing the same thing. Feels so unfinished. For example London Commuter, a great idea and the bit that has been done is cool, but what about linking it up with SW Railway at Clapham Jct? Then slowly you could build up an area, perhaps adding more destinations from Victoria like West Croydon, Dorking etc. Then you would be able to live the life of a real Southern 377 driver. Then maybe bring in the Overground from Clapham Jct to Stratford and so on. Stratford gives you greater Anglia to Liverpool St. Over time a whole network could be built.
Because that would limit the British routes to the South east and modern era for another year or more. No thank you.
They are doing it if you have noticed with Birmingham and Glossop. It is happening. You need patience.
Except nothing has happened... yet. Maybe there will be more information in a future roadmap, but IMHO anyone dreaming that a Birmingham or Manchester suburban network or even the line between the two cities will evolve from these two essays, might be in for disappointment.
Sorry to bother you with one of my newly cooked up stupid ideas but ain't that a task you can train AI for? I just can't get over the fact that UE5 would mean we would loose our collection
It would seem that DTG have summoned DadRail and Potentially other Ambassadors to their HQ for what I imagine is testing or a PR thing.
Why is that ominous? There's nothing negative about Ambassadors going to the studio before a big reveal is there?
I do agree. TSW3 introduced more problems than what we had. Remember BML had the AI train that would get stuck right before three bridges. That was like than until it was finally fixed 5 months later. To be honest in my opinion the lighting was to bright. night lighting to a step back. Besides dusk and dawn lighting which I'll give TSW3 that. SEHS,BCC, Scotrail, and NTY, PIS on AI haven't work since day one. Peninsular Baby bullet and cab car service are still missing...... I can go on and on with issues.........
Matt was fixing the Baby bullet cab car services last night at 3am, and said they should have it fixed now.
I would assume he couldn't sleep for some reason, and used what is probably a passion project to distract himself. I suffer from insomnia, and it's what I do lol.
