To be honest this one is certainly the most exciting one we had for a new TSW title! Personally the German routes and the Flixtrain are my highlights. I am now asking myself: How many services are on Fulda-Frankfurt and what layers can we expect? Maybe even one with the Expert 101?
Hyped is a understatement! Absolutely thrilled with all the announcements, some of them went beyond my expectations. Really excited for TSW5. I was not expecting the amount of content revealed. Most excited for the WCML, I've got to admit initially I did not know if I'd feel short changed with just the Euston to Milton Keynes section. But with the variety of stock being made available it looks like it's going to be nothing short of fantastic with an incredible amount of variety... The Class 377/2 come as a massive shock. Will the 377/2 come with any additional sub class feautures? And will it layer onto the existing BML? The Class 350 and 390... What more can I say? Very exciting! The announcement of JTs 90 mile... Yes! 90 miles! Of the full route from Preston to Carlisle with an 87 and god knows what other layers... The first Welsh route... And last but not least the GWE remaster... Speechless! Well done DT really made my day and can't wait until the 12th for early access to TSW5!
DTG Matt Absolutely stunning it was! And I love you guys so much! 350 and 390 so very happy! I understand how Complex Euston to MK must be to signal and the timetable! Will 350 and 390 Layer onto BCC?
Very happy with the TSW5 announcement. A couple of bits that interest me less, but the rest is fantastic, including finally getting NL on the roadmap. I was hesitant to be too excited before the live event but the TSW5 "free" starter - allowing anyone to get their TSW upto v5 - is a very welcome gesture, and the content itself looks excellent. Deluxe will be a pre-order for me.
At the end of the day, DTG are a business, and so doing something like this to drive sales towards the Deluxe edition was something that should have been expected.
WCML South 9/10 WCML Over Shap 9/10 GWR Remaster 7/10 Cardiff Network 9/10 Netherlands route - 9/10 German and US stuff - looks okay, might get the Deluxe version. Just East Anglia missing from TSW now.
Fair opinion then, I won't complain with the fact its not going to Rugby yet it still means no Daventry. Looking forward to a double WCML tho!
I did not like any of the new routes. Guess that I'll be able to have all my collection on TSW5 and wait for the flixtrain DLC. I do own the BR193 but it will be nice to have it in green
I said on another thread recently that if DTG were to make WCML South then it would represent their most expansive release yet with WM, Avanti and LO services. I didn't expect Southern to be included. Really excited about this. I'd also like to say that I suggested the Cardiff Network in a poll recently. Do I win a DTG mug DTG JD ? While I'm on a winning run, I'm going to do a "Which electric slam-door route would you like to see" poll. It's got to happen one day.
DTG JD / DTG Alex (dunno who deals with this), just a heads up that the Dovetail Direct video on YT has a 3-hour intro.
I'm going to have an anxiety attack from thw excitement of seeing classic BR stock... Mk2 coffins too!! Or are they Mk3s on closer inspection?
I wouldn’t expect any layers from German loco’s. You do see the Vectron a lot in other parts of The Netherlands but there is barely any freight on this route. But with the ICM Koploper and SNG Sprinter, the timetable would be complete. 2 express intercity runs (ICM) and 2 stopping sprinter (SNG) runs per hour per direction. The ATB safety system is quite simple to use so I would expect them to include it. When there is an adverse signal or lower speed restriction you “confirm” the ATB by braking until you reach the correct speed.
I love how quick my last posts have aged. Good thing about being pessimistic - you can either be like "See, I've told you so..." or "Wow! Didn't expect that.". Hardly ever disappointed.
While looking forward to some cracking new content and welcome new countries Wales and The Netherlands to the game. It looks like fans of railways in the East of England are not going to be spoiled for choice for another year. Here's the TSW choice of "Eastern"* routes 7 years after TSW was first launched. *The Western fringes of Hertfordshire really isn't "East Anglia".
Well now everyone is hyped I'm hyped. Dunno what for though. Guess I'll find out when I get home and watch the stream!
This may be a slightly dumb question - but in the FAQ article it says that keyboard and mouse support for consoles will not be happening. Does this mean the existing keyboard support for console will be done away with? I understand that the console versions are designed to be played with a controller, but it’s a pain having to get up out of the drivers seat at the start of every service and rush to find / turn on the safety systems - which is why I use a keyboard.
Trying to pick through all the information, but, as of now, see nothing of any substance for US fans. This was kind of expected I guess. Not interested in any of the three new routes. San Bernardino is just Metrolink part 2. Mostly straight line, single track with minimal traffic. And why would I want to " hop " between a commuter route terminus to a freight only route? Deluxe edition has new locos for UK and Germany, nothing for the US. No, nothing exciting here. Will probably take the free update and leave it at that. Hope you UK and German fans enjoy. You pretty much have TSW to yourselves going forward. What a huge disappointment!!
Apologies if i missed it but will the 390 only come with the deluxe/special edition or can we purchase it separately? What happens if you get the standard, can you upgrade if you need to?
A shout out for the improved track shadow rendering, I hope it gets incorporated in all the older routes (I would have expected this to be core improvement across all routes, but still, a much appreciated improvement at the looks of it): How have track shadows been improved? Track shadows have been overhauled to push out the rendering distance whilst having a minimal impact on performance. No more distracting pop-in from track shadows on all new routes and a selection of enhanced compatible content routes. Before: After:
Haven’t seen the direct yet, but I’m pleasantly surprised on what I’ve read. The free core upgrade is excellent news. I’m happy to be wrong about this! Other than that. I’m not overly excited. The German route does look great though and that might swing my decision on whether to buy now or not. Then I found out about JT’s new route. This is really exciting. Other than that, also pleased to see the GWE Remaster. Didn’t expect that. Overall I don’t have much to complain about. I wasn’t so happy with TSW 3 and 4 but 5 does look like it’s got some good stuff coming.
Absolutely thrilled however something that’s just hit me the remaster for GWE…. Is the something blue….? A 50?!
I think they mean they will not add any more support over what you have in TSW4. I don't think they will remove anything you currently have.
Absolutely not thrilled. To my count there were no new core features whatsoever, more like a reskin of TSW 4 with some new content. Even the suspension update was promised already for TSW 4. Where is update to UE5, Ebula or multiplayer?
UE5 ain't happening, at least not anytime soon as the game needs rebuilding from scratch. Multiplayer also requires a new game.
I am looking forward to climbing up into the cab of the IC Mm and enjoying that view that I have seen many times in cab ride videos.
Ah fair enough. Shame really because there’s literally only one keyboard shortcut for me on the console version that doesn’t work - otherwise it’d be perfect
Nice free core update with some interesting routes and locos No US freight though, and isn't Holland flat? Shant gripe. Not bad at all.
On a separate note, according to the FAQ the conductor mode will only be compatible with the 350 on WCML, and not the pendolino unless I’ve misread the tick box guide thing. Could someone from DTG confirm or deny? DTG JD
Awesome, good to know that it is the complete timetable, that is one of my favourite route features. No need for layers if they don't exist in real life.
Yes thats correct We've chosen to support specific locos and services in Timetable mode where conductors would be present in real-life. Typically, we've only included services with frequent stops, to ensure players have an engaging experience.
That’s a shame but understandable for a new feature. I hope in the future it could be implemented into the pendolino services too
Well I wasn't hyped but I am more than mildly excited now. Didn't expect all that. I am particularly glad the core is coming as a free upgrade. I was sceptical about Euston to Milton Keynes but actually it looks like there will be lots to do and it will be a nice busy route. Very excited about the JT route, I really didn't think it would be Preston to Carlisle. The German route looks like a winner too. I am glad there are two USA routes. The Dutch route was a surprise, great to see a new country added. I like the new features, especially expanding guard mode and the new map will be a boon. I was hoping when they were revealing a 2020 remaster it would be NTP but not too disappointed if it GWE as I like the class 166 and with a more realistic timetable should be a much more enjoyable route. I hope NTP is done at some point. The Cardiff network is very intriguing, I am looking forward to hearing more about that one. Hopefully the ATS route will be revealed soon, I hope we see it by the end of the year. I think I spied a ECML diesel pack on the roadmap graphic which will be interesting to hear about. However, slightly concerning is that I couldn't see a mention of the class 104, I hope that is still ongoing. Overall much to look forward too.
I have to say I'm disappointed that you've chosen to forgo paying people to do their job and are instead using AI voices this time, DTG...
My honest feedback on the logo - something's off with the "5". I can't tell exactly what, it looks "unstable", about to tumble to the left. (The whole logo is a custom font that violates many typeface design rules.)
Am I missing something ... if you get yourself the free upgrade to TSW5 you are able to buy any future route for TSW 5 ...
You are not obliged to use TSW5 straight away, you can accept the starter pack and download it at your convenience when you decide to upgrade your dial-up modem. All this for free.
Exactly this. E.g. if you just want JT's new route, you get yourself the free upgrade to TSW5 via the starter pack, and then buy JT's route. That's it. If you just want new features and no new content, just get the free upgrade to TSW5. Obviously we hope you'll like the new content enough to buy it, but the free upgrade is there to bring everyone along for the ride. Matt.
