Greetings! So I switched from Windows to Linux for good. And especially when it comes to TSW I was in particular afraid of the outcome. I checked ProtonDB previously and the feedback over there was surprisingly good. Now, after fiddling around for a bit with CachyOS, and downloading nearly 400 GB of TSW content (50 MBit DSL, well...) I was left highly impressed by the performance gains. To put it bluntly: it worked out of the box, no tinkering required. But there are issues, at least I've found two I can't get my head around. First: Under windows, my in-game Level was close to 500, now It's 0, and I don't find a way to connect my earlier profile with the new installation. Funny enough, when I try to log out, TSW asks me if I really want to log out my user account 'SRDE#6795' Which is the one I'm using for ages now. The game certainly knows me and my user account, but for some reason it won't sync. Another thing I noticed is that I'm no longer able to use the key 'Ä' and 'Ö' to apply or release the brakes. What's funny about this, is that it seems to be an CachyOS/Linux issue, because it's the same in ETS2. But in comparison to TSW, it's rather easy to rebind different keys to the indicator lights. So, did anybody else notice these issues and is even aware of a solution? Cheers, Marcel
Greetings! Just to provide you all with a small update of my TSW on Linux journey. The issue regarding my "in-game character level" hasn't been resolved, but honestly, I really don't mind it too much. The only thing leaving a somewhat bitter taste is that all the collectables have vanished, I'd need to find and collect them all again. I can see that this might be a bigger issue for others, who like to collect all the in-game collectables. Again, for me, it's something I can deal with. Regarding the key-binding issue: I realized after hours of trying to find a solution, that it is much easier and much more feasible to just leave the ö,ä and ü keys behind me and start rebinding the available keys. To be honest, I'm not too proud of myself that it took me so long to see that TSW comes with a ton of predefined key-bindings which I never use. Like the switch to turn on and off the desk light in some locos. So I changed 'ä' to 'k', 'ö' to 'o' and 'ü' to ',' - the last key is already the fallback option for TSW when you use the game in your local language. When it comes to mods, there is good news too! Even though it's a bit more challenging to locate the right directory at first, as soon as you've found it you'll be able, in theory, to install all the mods you previously used - though I need to conduct more tests. I just have installed a mod to enhance the visual appearance of TSW as well as the God Mode mod. Since Steam/Proton "emulates" a window environment the path looks somewhat familiar: /home/<your user name>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Train Sim World 6/WindowsNoEditor/TS2Prototype/Content/DLC/ That's where the PAK-files live. The engine.ini for the common tweaks can be found at: /home/<your user name>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3656800/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/TrainSimWorld6/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/ That's it for now.
