I too have been swapping between 6 and 7 yesterday and today, trying different routes and runs where I’ve observed problems. I don’t see any degradation in 6’s behaviour (PC/Steam) from recent patches - it plays how it’s been playing for ages. Applying the same settings as my 6 setup has to 7 gives me the same behaviour, as long as I select DX11 in 7. So I think this “deliberately borked 6” idea is nonsense, at least on PC/Steam.

I take my comments about TSW 6 back. TSW 7 is crashing just as frequently.

Hopefully the constant error posting is getting noticed.

Nothing has changed re my PS5 setup. The only things I've purchased is official TSW DLC through the playstation store.

Recently bought nuclear cargo line 20s that's it. Obviously won't get a refund though as I have no proof it's them causing it.

I have no crashes with TSW on Xbox at all, so I don't think they sabotage anything. When I was playing in the past on PS4, I had many more crashes then I have now on Xbox. And I'm not talking about 1 game, but in general. I called it the Crash Station.

Just a shame that you spend hundreds on DLC and something like this happens, you've gotta buy it all again on another platform. I first used Xbox as that was what TSW first came out on. I had clinchfield and several other early routes, like Tees and Trans Pennine. Didn't like them much, wouldn't buy them again.

Can't afford to buy it all again on steam

Steam do have regular sales and sometimes big discounts. Lugwigsbahn is often well under £10 for example.

Maybe start slowly and build it up over time.

Personally if you can do it I would change, it you use TSW a lot. However with price of hardware it's not cheap.

I think TSW7 (PS5) has brought some great features over, but a few things are not great such as UI & menus etc. I’ve been enjoying the new UK route & no small part of that has been thanks to FOV & AI guard.

The problem is what it’s done to some of the older content. I can’t play anything that has a TFW 150 layer since the model has been completely broken. MVL’s 375 has once again lost its traction audio and there are a few routes which have definitely taken a performance hit.

Free roam seems to be useless now as routes that I would previously use it in just won’t let you spawn trains anymore, that also includes the new Leeds line.

Considering I actually like the new additions, as well as the new UK route, I should be saying that overall TSW7 is a good upgrade, but how can I say that when it just breaks my content library?

That’s before you get on to the distasteful decision to release a new iteration of TSW that’s dragged forward the huge console issue of texture blurring.

As an FYI though, if you’ve got stability issues then try clearing your cache. I know it’s one of those troubleshooting steps that people like to pretend solves everything, but generally it’s good practice when you’re deleting potentially 100’s of gigabytes & replacing it with another 100+gb.

Out of curiosity, what route or routes are crashing for you? There are certain routes on PS5 that have known crashing issues. Outside of these, I find the game to be reliably stable:

    Brighton Main Line
    East Coastway
    London Overground Mildmay
    Metro North New York-Stamford
    WCML Trent Valley
WCML Birmingham-Crewe (100% crash rate when attempting to resume a saved game)

With the exception of Birmingham-Crewe, you can workaround most of these crashes by saving frequently and reloading the save following a crash. While not ideal, the crashes don’t really disrupt me too much since I’m typically able to reload the save and finish the service.

East Coastway and Brighton Mainline, the crashes were happening prior to buying the Nuclear 20s, but they're more happening frequently when using the 20s. But I've got the crashes using class 700 free roam, 66s on east Coastway, it's mainly those routes.

Those are the only routes I really play, as they're my local lines.

18:00, another crash, at Haywards Heath, this time with flying Scotsman.

    Very disappointed

It makes me wonder how many people just turn the music off, I do it as my first settings change because it’s frankly mid at best and personally I don’t want menu music unless it’s something really special.

I’m not trying to attack you or start another whole argument, but an RTX 3050 isn’t suitable for 4K gaming. This card can barely handle 1440p, so I think your monitor is a bit too demanding in terms of the resolution you can actually run. An RTX 3050 also has very limited DLSS support, let alone DLAA. I would recommend getting a monitor with a lower resolution and using 1440p as the maximum, but honestly, 1080p would be the best choice here.

Not had any crashing problems with the PS5 at all so far, though rather annoyingly the menu seems to slow down quite badly when ive finished a scenario/timetable and then exit into the menu screen.

I had TSW on PS4, luckily not that many routes, but some routes I bought again on Xbox. Switching from Xbox to PC and keeping your TSW collection is possible, however a lot of other games are not play anywhere.

As I said in the other thread, it was pumping out 30 FPS at 4K in TSW6 fine. So the problem isn't my hardware though yes it could be better, it's TSW7.

As a PS5 player I’m really not seeing any demand to move to TSW7 and these comments are only cementing this view.

The Leeds-Skipton route is just a little underwhelming to me compared to the Riviera on TSW6.

With the major improvements made for PC players, console users appear to be getting left further behind. I’m shocked DTG didn’t at least implement the new lighting for PS5/XBOX to try and bridge the gap, but once again we must wait for another ‘core update’.

I’m looking forward to JT’s new route and the NTP remaster, but my interest in TSW has sadly been diminished with this latest iteration.

I've downloaded the free version on PS5 but have no intention of transfering everything over yet. There isn't any of the announced DLC that interests me bar the NTP remaster. If that requires TSW7 then i'll probably sort it all then.

I'll tinfoil hat that they held Tadami back for TSW7 and it was fine all along, but I don't think they deliberately bork their old content to try and shift the new one, would they? Seems a bit far fetched and I'm pretty sure Microsoft and Sony would take a dim view of such practices.
TSW7 is far from perfect though. I've run into some random problems with the AI conductor in scenarios on older routes. I can't say how it is in the new ones as I only went for the free update, and SIFA will be the death of me on the German stuff now that I can automatically activate safety systems from the main menu. I have spotted some nice reflections and the like in windows and things, and as long as I keep the graphics on HD as opposed to 4k it runs well enough. That menu brightness is horrendous though, and I hope they can give us a dark, or even a darker, mode. Loading back to the main menu faster is irrelevant when the menu doesn't work properly for a couple of seconds after it's loaded. It's still fun to play, but there's a lot that still needs fixing.

Tsw7 is so buggy in places with older routes that was fine and now full some irritating little bugs.

TSW has never been perfect and I've never claimed otherwise. I don't think any game is. As far as I'm concerned it's in the best place it's ever been with this new version, and I'm clearly not the only one.

I agree about the new conductor. I had to open the doors and close them whilst using the class 86/4 yesterday evening.

Agreed. They do improve it, even if it's only a little, iteration by iteration. It looks magnificent in 4k mode on XBox, but I still can't help but worry it'd be too much for my Series S so stick to HD. They just need to address the bugs. I don't think there are many if any, other games where the player base complain about issues from five years ago without them being properly addressed. Yeah, there will always be "buff this character, nerd this feature" from people, but the stuff with the AI passengers etc can still be the most frustrating thing in the world at times. If you're new to the game, see the traffic behaviour on the level crossing in tri-rail then come to these forums and see people have been complaining about similar AI problems for years it's not the best look.

What do you fix first though: passenger behaviour, cars on level crossings, or the AI conductor?

These new features all introduce more bugs to fix and I wouldn't be surprised if it's getting to a point where there's a little concern about whether fixing older bugs is going to end up creating new ones because they've spent so much time building TSW's features around them in order to reach a release deadline rather than trying to fix them.

The fixes may be bigger jobs than anticipated because of the knock-on effects and consequences of those very fixes, but how time consuming and costly would it be to rebuild the whole thing now in order to fix it all?

There are probably so many plates to keep spinning, especially when you're on the stock market. It's Hobson's Catch 22.
