Now I don't know if it's this specific line but I do know that some Scotrail (usually 158/156) operate services between Glasgow and Newcastle. I'm not sure if it is this specific line however.
So this is my local line, and honestly I think it fits perfectly into the type of route we usually get in TSW. Its about the same length as WCL, And has a good mix of freight and passenger traffic. Both Northern and ScotRail operate the line, both using class 156 sprinters.
Brilliant work Cosmo couldn't have put it together any better. I live in Newcastle, I know I am biased, but the entrance to Newcastle Central across the King Edward Bridge has to be one of the most picturesque entrances to a station in the country even the loop over the High Level is such a good entrance. An extension to Sunderland could open up the Metro part alongside freight all on the same lines also. Please Please DTG, Rivet or Skyhook could this route be made there is so much timetable and scenario possibilities
Getting `Newcastle into TSW is long overdue with the iconic bridges over the Tyne. I'd prefer to swap the Class 66 for other diesel locos just for variety.
Love seeing this thread resurface again. Definitely has to be on the list of the best ever suggestions for TSW, and still holds up years on (minus the TSW2020 artwork, but hey.)
The history of trains from Newcastle to Carlisle is a great read ... and the line runs about parallel to Hadrian's Wall which had a major fort at Carlisle and ended just west of there on the Solway Firth. I would want to see it tie into the great goods yard just north of Carlisle ... but that merge would be a pipe dream ? Carlisle is so scenic and Newcastle so interestng. The other interesting transport towns that have my eye are in Germany: Augsburg and Freiburg im Breisgau. Both are rated as great cities to live in ! I only know the latter personally, but i want to see trains running right thru them is TSW. Ditto for Darmstadt just south of Frankfurt am Main ...
