Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, February 17th 2024 and will be judged by me - I'm a railfan obviously In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM GMT Sunday, February 18th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll. Theme for this week : "Interesting Situation" Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
Due to engineering works at Mirfield over the festive period, the biomass trains between Liverpool and Drax were diverted via the Hope Valley. 66714 heads the diverted 6M36 past Earl sidings.
Norfolk Southern's H70 crosses River Drive in Garfield, H70 is a Croxton-Campbell Hall local that unusually tends to use road power instead of old geeps and SDs, normally it runs overnight but can occasionally be caught during the day, it frequently handles hoppers for a local flour mill as well as insulated boxcars for Manhattan Beer and centerbeams for a lumberyard
A Class 56 on a passenger train? Well, the Class 47/8s were constantly breaking down, so "Anything Goes" was in effect on summer Saturdays. Having brought in 09:10 Edinburgh-Bournemouth from Birmingham on 20th June 1998, 56019 prepares to work the 18:14 to Manchester as far as Birmingham.
As Union Pacific EMD GP9 '338' shunts hoppers at the factory sidings of Oro Grande; a peculiar move sees BNSF EMD GP9 '1614' hauling a further 5 EMD GP9s all from "Fallen Flag" railroads for Barstow to be stripped down and unfortunately scrapped as the EMD GP9s begin to be phased out by newer trains. Loco: EMD GP9 Route: Cajon Pass
It's 1943 and the United Kingdom is now 4 years into World War 2 and despite the Battle of Britain being long over; German aircraft still take to the skies to inflict damage on the British war machine. Here we see Southern Railway Q1 Class 'C18' making a dash for the sidings at Midford with eight BL 12-inch Howitzer artillery guns to assist with the war effort. However; as the picture depicts the 8th artillery gun of the consist has unfortunately been struck by a stray German Junkers Ju 87's gunfire attack! The damage is a dangerous hazard and the train must head to the nearest siding as quickly as possible; that being Midford, to quickly dispose of the damaged artillery gun before continuing to Bath with the much needed weaponry. Loco: Southern Railway Q1 Class Route: Somerset & Dorset Railway
As a pair of ScotRail Class 320's pass through on their daily morning services; EWS Class 66 '66127' prepares to join the North Clyde Line with 11 loaded PCA tank wagons for a brief period on a rare detour onto this passenger line due to maintenance works on it's intended line being carried out at the time forcing this diversion. Locos: British Rail Class 66, British Rail Class 320 Route: Suburban Glasgow: Airdrie
Its icy, the road is narrow. And I am in a Landrover Mk2 with no weight in the back. Interesting Situation indeed...
Back in 1987, 50049 was converted to 50149 and was put on trial to see if Class 50s would be any good for hauling freight trains. Here you see it arriving at Eastleigh with a rake of 18 JTA / JUA wagons. Needless to say the trials were not very successful and never became a permanent option.
The changeover period of the early 1960s is seen as 1019 County of Merioneth pilots "Western" D1003 Western Pioneer with 1V95, the 12:30pm Manchester-Plymouth, on Friday 8 June 1962 - both engines being numbered in the 1000 series. Route: Glorious Devon (Golden Age Developments) Loco: Victory Works County and DTG Western
Not usually trains that are seen together, a Class 374 has just arrived from Amsterdam, as the 1230 Hull Trains service to Hull gets ready to leave London. Unusually, this is from St Pancras this time, due to engineering works at King's Cross. This scenario actually happened in December 2023. Trains: Class 374, Class 802 (AP) Route: Midland Main Line
On test in 1987, a Class 442 Wessex Electric tackles the Lymington Branch Line. Loco: Class 442 Route: Southampton to Bournemouth
While most passenger trains originating at Oxford were local or semifast, the 5:30 Oxford-Paddington, known unofficially as the "Oxford Flyer", ran non-stop and was booked for "Castle" haulage, in this case Old Oak Common-based 7036 Taunton Castle, its smoke and steam illuminated by the evening sun. Route: The Wycombe Railway and Joint Line Loco: BMG/PLD Castle Class
Hello everyone and good morning/evening! So this was a tough one to do because all of you had absolutely great ideas that I just can really rank but here goes nothing. 5th Place bellminsterboy I do see this as an odd situation indeed and I like the rolling stock included. 4th Place Craigie-C Never thought I would see a class 50 in the railfreight livery and I like the angle and visuals. 3rd Place Blazin Going back in history with this one and also seeing one of the weirdest british steam locomotives in my opinion. 2nd Place maxtedrw Now that is an interesting take. I really appreciate everytime someone fits the theme by not using a train. 1st Place DrTrenchcoat I love your picture! The compostitioon is perfect and sometimes I like seeing NS trains on the competition. DrTrenchcoat the golden master key is yours! Looking forward to your theme. Thank you everyone for your submissions! All of you did a great job and I had a hard time picking which one of you, so don't feel disappointed in yourselfs. You did great!
Congratulations to the winners and thank you for 3rd place! One of the weirdest British steam locomotives? Oh man you haven’t seen anything yet, there are muchhhhh stranger British steam locomotives than the Q1 Class! This is the Southern Railway Leader Class, it looks like a diesel but it’s actually steam powered. It was supposed to ensure the longevity of steam locomotives against diesel by removing lots of the drawbacks of steam locomotives. Unsurprisingly, it was designed by the same person (Oliver Bulleid) who designed the Southern Railway Q1 Class! Once you go down the rabbit hole of strange British steam locomotives there’s no going back… Here are a few for you to look into: GER Class A55 LNER Class W1 GNR Stirling 4-2-2 I really want more odd, prototype / one-off locomotive designs for Train Simulator Classic from all different areas of the world I just love that sort of thing and would love to have a drive of a few and get screenshots of them. But they would be difficult to put them into the game as most of these sort of locomotives are long gone and scrapped. Anyway sorry for going off topic.
I think the North Americans really mastered the odd and unique train designs, not just on steam locomotives either.
Thanks for the victory and congrats to the other podium members, I especially liked maxtedrw's land rover shot, it was both a nice screenshot and a funny interpretation of the topic. Next week's thread is up https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competion-2024-week-8.78901/
